Reviews For New Beginnings

Hey there!

Ooh I like your choice of career for Hermione as a reporter for the Daily Prophet after Hogwarts rather than the usual canon/in line with the canon job of working somewhere in the Ministry of Magic. I’m curious what made you decide that would be the route for her, especially as she frequently disparaged the Prophet’s reporting throughout their later years at Hogwarts for its ragging on Harry and shoddy reporting around their efforts. But anywho, I think it’s great and her characterization is well done, too. Harry and Ginny are some classic faves of mine, so I am excited to see what happens with their wedding and all! Although, I am a bit lost as to how much time has passed since the War as it’s not explicitly stated but clearly it’s been some time that’s passed if Harry & Ginny have been able to plan most of their wedding already. Great start!

Author's Response:

This was written as an attempt at NaNoWriMo many years ago. I didn't have mch of a plot in mind, it was jiust write what came to mind. I didn't even think I knew what I was writing, but as I did, this story took on more a tone and aspect of friendships rather than a serious plot based on canon facts :) I let my creativity lead the way, not the research - if that makes sense?

Thanks for taking the time to read and review.

I can't believe I've finished what you have up so far! And it seems this story has been abandoned, so I'll have to just dream of how it might have ended. :)  But first, my thoughts!

Great job on this chapter as well. Hermione's jealousy actually showed in a very realistic way. I think it's totally believable that she would have a crush on Draco, but not really want to tell him about it for fear that he wouldn't feel the same way (or that they'd grow closer and he would change his mind and hurt her feelings). Her storming off was perfect for that scene.

I really like the friendship between Hermione, Ginny, and Pansy. You've written a version of Pansy that I love. I think her growth as a person is really evident here, and I think she's a really good friend to the girls and to Draco.

I was surprised by Ginny's description of Angela. It seemed really harsh, but maybe there's more of a history there than Ginny is saying. As it stands now, I'm not sure what Draco would see in someone like Angela, so I'm intrigued. I wonder if this story would have had him really asking her, or if Hermione would have changed his mind before he did.

Really good job with this story! I'll review your other Dramiones someday soon! :)

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

I have 11 chapters to this story. I just haven't uploaded the others yet...Sorry :(

All my WIPs will eventually go to a completed status. I have to do 2 things first:

1. do the real life thing - it's a pain. Seriously!

2. Stop writing new stories *sorry, not sorry* :)

But I promise, these will all get their ending. I started this story knowing how it ended, I just never got there. I'll get those other chapters up for you though :)

I have been reading all your reviews, I'll pop back and repond to them all :)

Hello once again!

Man, this chapter makes me desperate for answers! I agree with Hermione that things seem to be moving too quickly and that it feels suspicious to have everyone getting along so soon. I don't want Draco and Pansy to be up to something, but I think there has to be more to this situation than we know. I hope it turns out to be something that doesn't affect the friendship that is starting to bloom, though.

Hermione's hesitance to give Draco a chance to show that he's different now is frustrating me. Even Ron is giving him and Pansy a chance! It feels like Ron would be more likely to be mean to Slytherins than Hermione, but I guess some rivalries die hard.

I'm surprised that Molly and Arthur are okay with Ron just inviting Pansy and Draco to stay with them for a month. That feels like a long time to have houseguests! Maybe a future chapter will show their reaction when they find out about Ron's invitation.

Finally, I have to just say that I'm so happy that Fred and George are both alive and happy in this story. I'll never accept Fred's death.

Another really good chapter! I'll read the last one that's up ASAP!

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

I don't think I've accepted most deaths.

Ah, you'll just have to read on in regard to Molly :)

Hello again!

Omg. I just want everyone to be together and be happy! I loved this chapter for everything it did to cement the relationships that are forming amongst the group.

I really liked that Draco and Hermione reached a truce and that they were able to laugh together again. I think they could be really, really good friends (and later more!) if they overcome their pasts. Pansy and Ron seem to have managed it. ;)

The ending of this chapter surprised me! I hadn't expected Harry and Ginny to ask Draco and Pansy to join their wedding party, but I'm glad that they did. I think it's a good point that Pansy brings up that they just started being friends, but I really loved Harry's reply. He's completely right, of course, that Pansy and Draco being in the wedding party will send a message loud and clear to everyone who sees it or hears about it. And though Draco accuses him of "using" them, Harry keeps his calm and tells him that, no, the effects that having them in the party will have are just a bonus. They want them there because they're friends. And I love that! I think it's a really important moment for showing that Harry is aware of the power and influence that he wields.

Finally, I'm basically obsessed with the slow-burn nature of Hermione and Draco's relationship. You're handling it so well! Good job!

On I read!

Author's Response:

I hate slow burn!!! hahahaha...Well, sometimes. Mostly, I remind myself to lay the ground work first then dive right in.

You've already pickeed it up a few times where I've just gone there without any real explaination ;)

Hello again!

This was another really good chapter! You're moving the plot along steadily, and I'm still impressed with your ability to juggle so many characters. I really loved the interactions of all of them in this chapter. I'm particularly happy with the developing friendship between Hermione, Pansy, and Ginny. Their connection seems genuine, and I think their friendship will only grow as they become more comfortable with each other.

I like that Draco called Hermione out in this chapter for her double-standard of seeing that Pansy is making an effort without every making an effort for herself. Draco's disappointment was very evident, and he made a good point. It seems that Hermione was affected by it enough to reconsider how she's treating him. I hope so!

I can't believe we're in the same day as we were two chapters ago! It feels like they've known each other for years! I can't wait to see how things change as the story goes along.

Finally, I have one correction for you! Near the beginning of the chapter, Hermione refers to Pansy as Ginny's future "step-sister," but the word you were looking for was "sister-in-law." :)

I'll read on soon!

Author's Response:

Error fixed :) Thank you.

I have a habbit of staying in a moment too long. I should have it all in one chapter, but then my chapters would be so long.

Hello again!

I'm so thrilled with this story, and I especially love this chapter! The lunch was everything I've ever wanted out of a blossoming friendship between the Gryffindors and their Slytherin counterparts. I love that Hermione was so embarrassed by the teasing earlier that she literally had to take a break from her friends, haha. I've been there.

But Draco coming to ask if she wanted a drink was such a great move on his part. I wonder if he's feeling their connection as much as Hermione is. And then you have the growing bond between Ron and Pansy, who I have to say are basically made for each other in this story. Their takedown of Lavender was to die for!

You're juggling a large cast of characters very, very well! I'm so impressed with how in-character and believable they each feel. And I love that they're funny and sarcastic and that they're clearly enjoying themselves. There's a ton of angst in the HP fandom, as I'm sure you know, haha, so it's nice to see something cheerful for a change.

Great job with this chapter! I can't wait to read on!

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

Ron/Pansy is a favourite of mine. I do place them together in a few stories.

This was one of my favourite things to write. The happy side. The part where they just get to live :)

Holy heck, I love this chapter!

Honestly, where do I begin??? Everything is perfect.

First, the scene at the beginning when Hermione sees Draco shirtless--perfection. I'm a huge sucker for "accidental partial nudity that embarrasses people who aren't yet together" scenes. Amazing. XD

Then we have breakfast, which was stunning. Pansy's excitement over scrambled eggs is one of the most amazingly hilarious things I've ever read. And she and Ron bonding was really sweet. I'm surprised she's so interested in Muggle things, but I can definitely accept it as part of her character in this story.

Ginny and Hermione's friendship is wonderful. I love when they're close in fanfics, but I feel like it doesn't happen often enough. So I was happy to see it here. And I was even more happy that Pansy seems to be joining their little trio. Hermione needs more girl friends in her life!

Hermione and Draco's interaction at the Three Broomsticks was super cute. I love that she's really trying to give him and Pansy a chance, and it seems like the ice is starting to thaw. Pansy and Ginny teasing her about that makes it even better.

Overall, I loved this chapter. No criticisms at all. It was fabulous. :D

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

I went into this story with zero plot ideas. It was this chapter that kind of started a 'plot'. Friends, friendships and what we do with them. I'm glad you love this chapter, I do too :)

Hello again!

Well, things are moving right along, aren't they? :)

You did a fantastic job with this chapter! I really liked the perspective we got into Draco's mindset right now. I also liked that we focused a lot on how Hermione is feeling. I wonder if we'll get more of Harry's perspective in future chapters. His justification for his truce with Draco is interesting to me--though I understand being grateful to Narcissa, I'm not sure how exactly that translates into being friends with her son.

The dinner at the Burrow was so uncomfortable!! Oh my gosh. I could practically feel the tension. I was glad to see Ginny and Pansy getting along though. If she's Draco's best friend (as she seems to be), then I think it's important that the group accept her. They might even accept her before they accept Draco, actually.

I felt really bad that Hermione was so upset in this chapter, but I also think she's kind of teetering on the edge of her emotions. Her anger and mistrust are completely valid, but she has a desire to start over too...yet she can't apply that same standard to Draco and Pansy. I think she'll eventually see that that's hypocritical.

So, well done! I'll be back to review chapter 3 soon!

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

I had to re-read this story because I posted what I have left to the archive. I really want to finish this one :)

Harry and Draco have more off story history, hence Hermione's confusion.

Hello!

As I continue my mission to read and review every Dramione on HPFT, I'm here for another of your stories!

This one is starting off very interestingly! I've written a few stories where Ginny and Harry's relationship is in the background, but I hadn't really considered writing their wedding. I wonder what it will be like! I also wonder why Hermione didn't know that Harry planned on inviting Draco. It seems like she doesn't even know that he's friends with Draco, actually. Hmm, is Harry deliberately keeping it a secret, or is Hermione just too busy and hasn't checked in. I wonder how she'll react when Harry and Ginny confirm that Pansy was telling the truth.

I love the idea of Hermione as a reporter. I think she'd be really good at that! I also love that Luna is now the publisher at The Quibbler. She's probably amazing! I also love that she's accepting of Draco--I've often written Luna as much more accepting of him than other people. I think she's that type of person.

I'm interested to read on, which I'll do soon! Great start!

Best,
Emily

Author's Response:

Hi Emily,

I'm sorry. I'm here!!

Life has me, so I pop back when I get a breather, but Uni starts up on the 26th of this month (how on earth did October get here so fast when March took 50 years?!), so I thought I better reply to all these reviews before I get sucked back into life.

I 100% MISS this story. This was a NaNo attempt, and I had no actual plot in mind, and then I realised it was just about the characters and all the mundane stuff and then it turned into friends etc.

I thank you for coming here and giving this story a chance ????
