heh. for my last blog post of the year, i'm going with something that's not about my hot mess-edness/being a total disaster/chaotic bisexual lol  

it's about one of my absolute favourite characters from the hp series - narcissa black. in my totally unbiased opinion, jkr definitely gave her too few moments in the books but! i still managed to fall in love with her. a lot.

first of all, she would do anything for her family. literally anything (and she admits it freely). that includes defying the dark lord who is basically sleeping on her couch (lol i made myself laugh thinking about voldy trying to make himself comfortable on a couch at the malfoy manor while bellatrix possibly creepily hovers over him), going to snape (who is one of the dark lord's (supposedly, at least as far as death eaters and voldy are concerned) most loyal death eaters) and forcing him to make an unbreakable vow so her son would be protected, however small that protection is. despite her crazy most-loyal-death-eater-to-ever-exist sister chasing her around and trying to stop her. that fact alone is just...ugh, that scene at the start of the half-blood prince was really eye-opening when it came to her character.

she's so...capable, i think, is the right word? that she got through her husband being locked up in azkaban, through two wars during which she was on the wrong side, like..totally unscathed. i'm probably idealising her character a bit, but that's okay. she managed to get cowardly lucius to survive through voldemort living with them in their home. and lucius is incompetent so we all know it must've been narcissa that somehow got him through it (and herself).

and then. that scene in the forbidden forest, where she cold-bloodedly looks the dark lord in the eyes (a fantastic legilimens. so i'm guessing narcissa must be a fantastic occlumens as well) and lies to his face, surrounded by an army of death eaters, knowing both she and lucius will die if someone notices that harry is alive...that was just. wow. and all on trusting a word of the boy she supposedly hates that her son is alive, in the castle, and that there's a sliver of a hope she and lucius will find him and keep their family alive through it all.

idk friends, for me, that's so incredibly badass.

and so i've started (by started i mean i have one paragraph written and the rest of the gdoc is basically my descent into madness, some people can confirm because they've seen a screenshot ) a fic about her and lucius (but mostly narcissa) and how she:

• takes over the black family's dwindling fortune and makes them rich again
• deals with her crazy family
• deals with tom riddle/lord voldemort
• marries lucius eventually
• gets through two wars by being scheming and devious and secretly a spy

obviously, i'm very excited about it even though i shouldn't be writing it because i have two wips, but that's neither here nor there.

anyone have any thoughts about narcissa?
