The Prefect's Fall Writing Challenge Results I 27 January 2020
January 27th | The Celebration of HPFT Challenge Results
This fall, we decided that our writing challenge would be centered around all of the great aspects of HPFT, and the fun events that have happened on this site since its inauguration! We aptly named it The Celebration of HPFT Challenge and asked for members to write a piece no more than 3000 words on a past event of the site, or around a pun. Not to fluff our own feathers, but we were prepared with many great puns for all your writing needs
As a brief reminder, here are the prizes:
Each entry will receive a review from one of the Prefects.
Third Place: Award Graphic, one additional review on the story of your choice, WJ questions
Second Place: Award Graphic, two additional reviews on a story/stories of your choice, WJ questions
First Place: Award Graphic, three additional reviews on a story/stories of your choice, a picspam related to your entry, feature in the Prefects' In the Spotlight blog (including a review column piece for your entry and an interview with the author).
We received two fantastic entries for this challenge:
Ridicule Us by @RonsGirlFriday
A pun on the Boggart-repelling spell "Riddikulus" featuring grown-up Ron and George Weasley dealing with a rather serious Boggart problem in the Hogsmeade branch of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.
Of Trolls and Nifflers by @just.a.willow.tree
A frantic, easily excitable Cho Chang just does not know what to get an aloof Pansy Parkinson for the holidays, but eventually figures out a way to get it done that is true to character for both of them.
Without further ado, the places for this challenge!
Ridicule Us by @RonsGirlFriday
Melanie takes a lighthearted pun for her title, and then devastates us with the appearance of a specific relative in Boggart form that George can't defeat on his own. Ron comes in, the Boggart changes to a form we know of from back in Deathly Hallows, and resolves the situation. Her creativity with the theme is really well executed, and leaves you thinking about the characters long after you've finished the story.
Of Trolls and Nifflers by @just.a.willow.tree
Eva's characterizations of 8th year students Cho Chang and Pansy are so opposite to each other, yet the holiday cheer and worrying of how to go about getting the *perfect* gift for someone who you don't know very well but may very well have a crush on is so lovely. Her integration of the Nifflers Who Stole Christmas Event from the 2018 holiday season is flawless, and the attention to detail is impeccable.
Congratulations to the both of you! Please PM a Prefect with your choice of story(ies) for your additional review(s)! Your entry reviews will be coming shortly.
If you would like to use your award graphics, please rehost and credit @crowsb4bros!
As a reminder, when entering in a Prefect-run writing challenge, you get more "challenger badge" placement points than you do for placing in a member-run challenge, and staff-run challenges are worth even more than ours, so it's always in your best interest to enter our challenges alongside member challenges to get that good good Challenger Badge!
Be on the lookout this spring for an event or another writing challenge hosted by your Prefects!
