The Science Fiction [AU] Challenge Results
The Science Fiction [AU] Challenge Results
You all have been patiently waiting for these results as I underwent my advancement to PhD candidacy exam, but I am here now to tell you the official results of my Science Fiction Challenge!
The basic requirements of this challenge were thus: write something in the Science Fiction genre, whether it be a Harry Potter crossover, Original Fiction, or other fandom entirely, and have fun both writing and subverting the classic tropes found in the Science Fiction genre in fan favorites like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars. There were no length requirements and everyone basically had free reign to write in whatever fandoms they were comfortable with (that I know) or to go completely original! I was very excited to see what people would come up with for having such an open-ended type of theme, and I was not disappointed!
I received 5 stellar entries for this challenge, and I would HIGHLY recommend you check them out!!
Episode X: Homicidal Space Badger by @northbound24
Dave writes a hilarious Harry Potter in Space AU very reminiscent of Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy with its plot line and alien characters and the perfection with which he modified certain core HP characters into alien races and the like. I'm still impressed he was able to come up with such a fun story from an off the cuff tweet he made!
Daughters of the Air by @Noelle Zingarella
Noelle crafts a story centering around a cultivated caretaker dealing with both her own mortality and obsoleteness as Drone patrols come ever close to discovering her insubordination. This is reminiscent of Frankenstein in the best way possible, and hopefully there will be more of this in the future!
Stargate at DoM by @potionspartner
Barbara does an excellent job combining the mission of the Stargate SG-1 team with combating Voldemort's rise to power during Half-Blood Prince and the discovery by some Unspeakables of a Stargate in the Department of Mysteries. This piece is unfinished as of yet, but promises to be a thrilling tale to the end especially as this clashing of magic and science unfolds!
Pix not only wrote this story for this challenge, but combined elements of literally like five other challenges that culminate in a fic that deals with time travel, social commentary on microplastics and their real, harmful effect on human health, and the harvesting of healthy human organs so that others may live in this post-plastic futuristic society.
A Picture of Christmas by @Simplicius
Simplicus shifted the Harry Potter universe with their fic by following Hermione as she works through becoming out of phase with her reality and thereby encounters the Sixth Doctor and his companion Evelyn as they phase into this universe. This has the potential for expansion, and would be an interesting take on the interaction of magic and Time Lord power if continued.
Before we get to the final results, a brief reminder of the prizes at stake.
