So it’s no secret that Draco is one of my favorite characters to read about. (Dramione=<3) so it shouldn’t shock you when I tell you that I have an extensive headcanon (multiple actually) about his character beginning from book 5 on into his adult years. 

First and foremost: He didn’t want to be a death eater. This isn’t to say he didn’t believe the idealogy because teenage Draco did nothing to hide how he felt about muggles and muggle-borns only that he didn’t want to be a monster. He had no choice in taking the mark. It was either that or he would have to watch his mother die. 

Second: He didn’t get off scot-free for his part in the war. Even though he was a teenager (and turned 18 a month after the war was over) he was still a little shit and a crime committed under duress is still a crime. Now he did manage to walk away without jail time because he showed an insane amount of remorse and because Harry shared his memory of the night Dumbledore was killed to clear Draco’s name on that one. He did end up with community service to be performed in the muggle world under the supervision of the ministry. He winds up performing these hours in a hospital which leads me to my next point. 

He becomes a healer. This is his redemption arc here. He loved working with the kids so much that he decided to become a pediatric healer to help wizarding children. (he even uses muggle methods and medicine from time to time) Eventually, he becomes head of pediatrics at St. Mungo’s and incorporates muggle methods to help prevent and treat muggle diseases. These work better on squibs than wizarding methods. One day he winds up saving the life of one Lily Luna Potter which brings me to point four.

He becomes “friends”with the Potters and Weasleys (except Ron but more on that at another time) So after Draco saves Lily’s life, Harry realizes he’s not the same asshat that he was in school and they agree to let bygones be bygones and start over. I use the term “friends” loosely here because they are friendly toward each other but it is still very reserved until they each completely accept and forgive the other. (Yes Harry was just as much at fault as Draco was.) 

All this to say that Draco is not a bad character and totally deserves to be the one to marry Hermione any and all redemption arcs you can give him.
