i'm feeling very depressed and black holeish and like i'll never crawl out of it so i thought making this blog post might make me feel slightly better.
anyhow, i was talking to deni a couple of days ago when i mentioned that there are some people on the site with whom i talk fairly regularly like her (++ap) and shreya (++ap) and branwen (++ap1 ++ap2)(#sorrynotsorry for calling you all out, friends) and i'm certain they know i adore all of their stories so please go read their entire aps because they're amazing writers that deserve all the attention in the world but good loving attention (i mean, fucking hell, branwen's drastoria was the story that got me to hpft in the first place and it's the story i left my very first review on! (though back then it was a series with lots of stories but now it's one but why am i going off on a tangent for real). but! there are some people whose writing i fangirl hard over but mostly talk to them in group/public settings (or very very rarely and i'm sorry about that but see the rest of my sentence but tldr is i'm awkward and terrible) and idk maybe they don't know it if my reviews are lacking because i'm a terrible terrible person and awkward as hell and just suck generally.
so this is a big shoutout to my faves who might not know they are actually my faves (in no particular order because i'm chaos)
@Unwritten Curse | +ap | project azkaban is my fave but also marigolds and constellations are *****
i think i read project azkaban back when gina first requested a banner for it from my up for grabs/premade thread (then i made her a new one because she asked and like i love the story and couldn't let someone else make it because i have a thing where i have a tendency to take over some people's aps because it be like that) and was like really blown away with ?????? everything ???? the concept and the writing and the characterisation are phenomenal works of fucking beautiful art.
@sinnersandsapphics | +ap | the moth & the flame is like in my top 5 stories i've read on the archives or uhh ever?? but also what landon and peters missed and odd weasley out and when i go out with you and stolen sweets are *****
sam has this talent to make a terrible love story read like a beautiful one in the moth & the flame and i just fell in love with it. but her writing flows so easily and just somehow ,,, you don't even notice you've got to the end of a story and then you do and you're sad because there needs to be more (*cough* odd weasley out *cough*). and she's always creative with her takes on challenges and even writing styles, i'm always always amazed by the originality of her works.
@Aphoride | +ap | imperium !!!! and antebellum and saboteurs (pls laura pls update thisssss i needs it in my life right now asap chop chop)
i mean do i even ?? what do i even say i don't know i'm at a loss. laura's writing is like poetry and a dream and so immersive that when you're reading it you feel like you're standing behind tom riddle and plotting with him and murdering people in this beautiful (of course) way and it's all very much like a horror holiday but beautiful horror and there's no wayy to actually describe it but it's perfection and i can't get enough of it.
@val | +ap | logarithmic people. logarithmic. but also reason to fight which needs an update. for real. and a sunday kind of love also needs an update because it's adorable
i have never in my life read as rare a pair as eloise midgeon and cormac mclaggen but !!!!!!!!! logarithmic (i haven't yet gotten around to reading the two chapters of the sequel. yet) is such a great story that you will binge until early hours of the morning, you'll despair over eloise and cormac and their sometimes inexplicable behaviour and you'll root for them, you'll tear at your hair at them and just like all that good stuff that comes from this intense fic that's heart-wrenching but witty and sexy at times and just gooodTM.
@Lost_Robin | +ap | notes from the ravenclaw bulletin board is fucking hilarious okay
i'll just quote part of my uncharacteristic review here:
QuoteOMG I LOVED THIS SO MUCH, I READ IT ALL IN ONE GO AND YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH I LOVED IT BY MY UNCHARACTERISTIC USE OF CAPS LOCK!!!!
and fucking toadopolis deserves its own story i mean. but notes is brilliant in the writing style, the epistolary format, the concept, the debates!!! the camaraderie between ravenclaws and it's all simply wonderful and beautiful and witty and did i say phenomenal.
@kuusi palaa | +ap | a woman's place and golden eagle soaring (abbyyyyyyy pls update i need marlene and badass female order members) and also walpurgis night feels like maybe not as popular/well-known story but it's amazingly written
i love love love the way abby incorporates problems we are facing in the real word with inequality and injustice in her stories and shows us how fictional characters can fight it and there's even useful advice on how to fight it irl and it's just ,,,, it's woven in the heart of her stories but it's never too much, it can't be too much and she managed to write beautiful and heartbreaking stories that literally murder me and touch my cold lil' heart and *****. abby's stories are engaging, have these wonderfully thrilling plots that keep you clicking that next chapter button and she's an amazinnnnnng writer.
@down-in-flames | +ap | 9.9/10 and like literally all her jilyssss but also complicated and complex which i have to continue reading
okay so everyone who knows me knows i'm literally incapable of writing fluff or happy endings or anything similar but that's why i love reading taylor's stories because they melt my cold' lil heart and they make me grin like an idiot and ,,,,,,, i need that in my life which is a terrible fucking hot mess and reading taylor's stories is like escaping in this nice dream world with this awesome couple aka lily and james and in all of her iterations of them that i've read they've been phenomenally characterised and also never the same and i'm amazed at her ability to write them so so well. i'm looking forward to even reading her angsty smutty quidditchfic jily because i'm holding out hope they'll end up happy and together but even if they don't i'll still enjoy her writing.
@nott theodore | +ap | shoulder to shoulder and paper faces and mes a'n lester and like sian's entire ap lol
shoulder to shoulder is among some of the first stories i read on hpft and it blew my mind and it immediately went into my favourites because it's such a powerful story even though it's so short but it packs a punch and it's beautiful and i love it okay. but sian's writing is...i'm having trouble finding words but i guarantee that you can start reading any one of her stories and you won't be able to stop until you've read everything she's written. they're thoughtful and original and some of them will make you cry and ,,,,, i have no words.
@1917farmgirl | +ap | passports required and the ungrateful dead
fred weasley????????? yes please we stan the way jill writes him ******** i love those two stories of hers, they're in my faves and do i go back and re-read them when i want to feel better??? like fucking hell i do because they're awesome and everyone should put them on their reading list. fred is just,,, the best fred out there and he's perfect. yes pls. more. mooooar.
also tagging @something wicked, @sibilant and @abhorsen. because they're amazing and i want them to know that because i'm sappy like that. so there. (recsss you ask?? well hello there: as the lights went out, a dream you can touch, yaxley | reorienting, untranslatable, china doll, the brightest pearl, war stories, i shout the lightning | shenaningans (+adjacent fics), (the way) you say my name, english lessons) but basically their entire aps are ******a++++++.
okay so if anyone actually managed to get to the end of this, i'd love to know your unknown faves if you'd like to share! you don't have to be sappy like me, i'm simply in that kind of a mood right now. sappy. like a sap. like a sad sad sad sap.
