May 2020 Bulletin
Welcome to HPFT's May Bulletin!
If you're new, welcome to HPFT! It's awesome to have you with us. HPFanficTalk is a forum/archive - the forum is Harry Potter-themed (including a year-long house cup), but we talk about other fandoms, too, and the archive is multi-fandom/OF. We have a strong culture of support for other writers and feedback here, including a story help section, challenges, and reviewing events, so if you're a writer, you've come to the right place.
A quick rundown to help you get started here on the forums: please post in the 'Welcome to HPFT' topic +here to say that you've read over the rules and understand them. You can specify your house in that post or in our sorting ceremony +here - once you do, we'll sort you into the right group so you can see a common room that only people in your house are allowed to see. You're welcome to post in your common room and/or in our introductions forum +here to introduce yourself if you'd like, and you may also find our +FAQs helpful.
Enjoy your stay!
Applications for all staff, prefect, and house newsletter editor positions will be open from May 1 - May 10. There's no post count/join date limit, and you can apply for as many positions as you like - it's all on one application. A detailed rundown on how HPFT staffing works can be found +here, and you can find the application +here. If you're interested, please apply by midnight PST on May 10th.
If you applied in March or April, you don't need to apply again unless you'd like to apply for additional positions or change your answers - we'll still consider you this month.
We're happy to welcome @maraudertimes to the Auror team, and @RonsGirlFriday to the Prefect team!
Congratulations, Lo and Melanie!
The House awards are well underway, and in the meantime @MadiMalfoy and @down-in-flames are hosting a writing event in which everyone (staffers included!) can join! Check out this thread for all the information!
In addition, thank you so much to everyone who filled out our survey last month - we'll have the results up soon.
Our first head student of this month is a very friendly presence in general, and she was particularly involved in encouraging people as they worked on their Camp NaNo projects this past month. Please join us in congratulating...
Our second Head Student this month has been incredibly active since her return, including posting new chapters to the archive, recommending stories, leaving reviews, and being an all-around engaging presence everywhere. Please give it up for...
Congratulations to you both! Please PM @abhorsen. with your choice of story you'd like to have featured next month.
Our Order of Merlin recipient this month is someone who has not only been a frontline worker during this pandemic, but also someone who has continuously been phenomenal at her HPFT job behind the scenes as well! @Ineke has been validating stories like an absolute champion recently, clearing the queue multiple times in April, along with helping to manage Ravenclaw's House awards and regular site-wide duties she has as Deputy Headmistress. Thank you for being such a wonderful staffer Ineke, and helping us all get that #quarantinefic out into the world of HPFT!
Irrational by @RonsGirlFriday!
This month, @down-in-flames and @toomanycurls read @MadiMalfoy's Lionfish Spines and Dusty Bottles for ficnight! You can check out the video under the spoiler tag.
This month, we're featuring house and site stories of the month, the fic night story, some FROGS winners, and two staff picks.
