LGBTQIA+ Recommendations

I'm bisexual, so LGBTQIA+ fics hold a special place in my heart. I especially love stories that show me a side of characters I haven't seen before. Please see below for particular fics that I think do the queer community justice. And let me know if you check these stories out and, if so, what you think!

Coming Around by @magnifique
Length / Completed: 1103 words / 1 chapter (complete)
Main Character(s): Nymphadora Tonks
Representation: Genderfluid, Genderqueer, Transgender, LGBTQA
Genre(s): Angst, AU
Summary: "My name is Tonks. Not Nymphadora." It was the first time I'd said the words, but they felt like coming home.
teen!Tonks +  a positive coming out story
Reasons for Recommendation: This is the most wonderful, positive, lovely story, and it made me smile so, so much. It's a story about a genderqueer/gender non-conforming Tonks, and it's fabulous. It was written at a time when genderqueer people weren't feeling particularly safe as HP fans, and Julie's writing was such a balm to me in that time. Julie's characterization of Tonks is so fabulous, and the details they added to the character felt very real. As many coming-out stories, especially those that happen when a character is a teen, this story was able to show the nervousness that comes with being authentic. But it didn't mire itself in sadness. Its totality is one of acceptance and the uplifting joy of being one's true self. It's so lovely and sweet. I can't praise it enough.

What Landon and Peters Missed by @sinnersandsapphics
Length / Completed: 4573 words / 2 chapters (complete)
Main Character(s): Oliver Wood, Percy Weasley
Pairing(s): Oliver/Percy
Representation: Ace/Aro, Gay, LGBTQA
Genre(s): Angst, Romance
Summary: Oliver Wood doesn’t need luck, no more than he needs attachments. Percy Weasley is a pain in the ass on both fronts.
Reasons for Recommendation: Oh man. What a story! First off, I have to hail it for me the first story about an aromantic character I've ever read. And Sam does such an amazing job of showing an aromantic character and "explaining" his identity. The validation she gives to Oliver throughout this is fantastic. We're so conditioned as a society to expect romantic attachments in fiction that showing a character who doesn't feel romantic attraction is, sadly, uncommon. So this story is an awesome breath of fresh air. And Oliver's and Percy's characterization is perfect throughout. This story will make you laugh. It will also give you insight and show you a fab LGBTQIA+ relationship. I definitely recommend it.

In Which Landon is Accidentally Observant, and Peters Misses Quidditch for No Good Reason At All by @RonsGirlsPatronus
Length / Completed: 3054 words / 1 chapter (complete)
Main Character(s): Original Character(s), Oliver Wood, Percy Weasley
Pairing(s): OC/OC, Oliver/Percy
Representation: Gay, LGBTQA
Genre(s): Fluff, Humor, Romance
Summary: The arguments between Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood are so legendary,
a mere glare is enough to clear out the dormitory.
The problem is, Landon and Peters live here, too.

Reasons for Recommendation: Oh. My. God. This is a companion piece to the rec above, and it honestly made me laugh so hard that my husband started to worry. Melanie starts with an observation about the "individual intensities and neuroses of the Head Boy and Quidditch Captain," and I'm pretty sure I've never read a more perfect description of Percy and Oliver. Then we get to know her two OCs (the titular Landon and Peters), and they're both fantastic. They're very solid as characters and very real...and their relationship is adorable. After you read Sam's story, check this one out. It'll make you laugh and give you even more of the fantastic world these two stories create.

a dream you can touch by @something foxy
Length / Completed: 1145 words / 1 chapter (complete)
Main Character(s): Lucy Weasley, Percy Weasley
Representation: Transgender
Genre(s): Angst
Summary: I see the change in you.
Reasons for Recommendation: This story is so lovely! It's currently nominated for an Inky award for Best Angst, but it actually has a really uplifting message. It's about Percy transitioning and the difficulties they go through during that process. In particular, it's about how their daughter, Molly, and their (former?) wife, Audrey, struggle with the change. The story is narrated by Lucy, which gives a whole new depth to the experience and a further side of the story of a family with a transgender parent. All-in-all, there are so many lovely moments that I couldn't help but smile at that I can't begin to list them all. Read it and review instead!
