I'm not an artist, I don't sketch (Fairyland review event)

Apologies for the bolded font...I copied and pasted from google docs and I can't get it to unbold...sorry

Hey there folks, I’m not one to leave these posts because they always make me feel awkward and I never really know what to say but here are 10 of the stories the Frost Kittens would strongly encourage you to read if you haven’t already done so.

In no particular order these fics are:

Title: The Might of the Architect by tinyporcelainehorses

Rec’d by: frosquill

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT): Hogwarts, Britain's largest community of magical learning, is only decades old and already bitterly divided. England has fallen to a foreign king. And as the stone walls of Hogwarts grow ever higher, whispers say that Salazar Slytherin is plotting something... Two students from either side of a war are driven together by events that will change Britain, magical and non-magical, forever.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what frostquill had to say about The Might of the Architect: “Beautiful prose, wonderful sense of historical setting, and amazing characters.  I've never cared more about an OC than I care about Matilde! “

Tasha’s thoughts:

How often do we get a founders era fic that weaves such a wonderful tale of magic and romance? Not to mention the addition of muggle historical events places this firmly within a time that everything was changing in both the wizarding and the muggle worlds. It’s only logical that when these worlds collide, everything is different and nothing will ever be the same. Now I’m not much for reading founders era stories but this is one that I will be checking out it sounds like nothing I’ve ever read before and I like that in fic.

Title: Clair de Lune by RonsGirlFriday

Rec’d by: frostquill

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT): How wonderful to be seen.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what frostquill had to say about Clair de Lune: “First of all, Melanie manages to pull off second person narration perfectly, which is rare! But really it's just such a gorgeous story, beautifully told. It's just littered with clever, touching little details and the way Luna's journey with gender is tied up with her grief for her mother and it sort of becomes two parallel stories is just the icing on the cake.”

Tasha’s thoughts: So I’ve actually read this story before and it’s such a beautiful piece that there were tears in my eyes when I was done. Melanie does such an amazing job with Luna’s journey and I can’t find the words to describe how this story made me feel. It really is a touching piece and I would encourage everyone to go read this.

Title: The Depths by Renacera

Rec’d by: FurmidableRogue

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT): "Why did you save me?"

"I'm not brave, Granger. I just couldn't watch you die."

In the aftermath of the war, Hermione has questions that need answers.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what FurmidableRogue had to say about The Depths: “This story straight broke my heart - in the absolute best possible way. It drops you into a setting that is so haunting and full of the cobwebs of the past and then just casually chips away at your emotions until you're left in a puddle on the floor. If you’re looking for some angsty, tragic, anti-hero feels - this story is a must read! It was truly a joy to have read - even though it made me want to cry.”

Tasha’s thoughts: I haven’t read this fic yet but I’m always here for Dramione. I like star-crossed lovers tales and I’m excited to have a chance to read this one! Even if there’s a possibility that the pair won’t have a happy ending, it looks like it will be a fantastic read.

Title: Reflections on Solutide by Felpata_Lupin

Rec’d by: FurmidableRogue

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT): A collection of unrelated drabbles, all somehow connected to the concept of solitude in its many facets

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what FurmidableRogue had to say about Reflections on Solitude: “I’m still working my way through all of these drabbles, but I can promise you won’t be disappointed if you jump in with me! I love the way solitude was approached from so many different perspectives and sort of unraveled in so many different ways. Some stories are presented as specific moments while others are more musings on a concept - but all of them are emotional powerhouses! I think what I love most is that solitude is presented in all of its negative nastiness, but also in a beauitfully tranquil and positive light too.”

Tasha’s thoughts: I haven’t read this yet (I see a repeated theme going here and I’m not sure what it means for my reading habits...oops) but I did enter the ABC Drabble challenge and it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to do to write 26 drabbles centered around one unifying concept. The fact that this was completed is amazing and makes this collection worth checking out.

Title: More Than Enough by PrideofPrewett

Rec’d by: FurmidableRogue

Link: Here

Summary(taken from FFT): Gideon and Fabian Prewett have already welcomed three nephews into the world. But this time is different. Because twins change everything.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what FurmidableRogue had to say about More than Enough: This short little tale of the Prewett twins we never got to meet is so full of warm, family, fuzzy feelings that I just want to find a blanket and a rainy day and curl up with it! While, at the same time, it hints at the future that Fabian and Gideon are fated to endure with subtle moments between the two of them. Beautiful written, the dialogue was cheeky and heartwarming. Truely, all I want to say is mischievous managed.

Tasha’s Thoughts: Two sets of twins? Count me in! Especially when one set has the potential to be Fred and George (My favorite Weasleys) This is another story I haven’t read but since its a family fic, It might be worth taking a look at. (I promise I’ve read some of these stories...maybe)

Title: This Calls for a Toast so Pour the Champagne by tinyporcelainehorses

Rec’d by: MalfoysFrostKitten (Look I told you I read one!)

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT):

Dudley Dursley reluctantly and somewhat awkwardly accepts an invitation to his cousin's wedding. While there, he meets Harry's friends, discovers some fascinating wizarding adult beverages - and meets Cho Chang, who has her own reasons to find herself out of place and drinking heavily at the wedding of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley.

In the months to come, this unlikely encounter will make him rethink his attitudes towards the magical world, drastically change the course of both of their lives, and change Dudley's relationship with his family forever.

Reason for Rec:

Tasha’s thoughts: laksdjfalk; I love this story! Now I’m not one for pregnancy fics but this one is such a different take on what I’m used to reading (and for once it’s not a Dramione fic) that I’m finding myself enjoying it a lot more than I expected. I love the characterization of Cho and Dudley and they’re so awkward around each other but at the same time falling for each other slowly and without realizing that’s whats happening that it’s beautiful. It’s such a contrast from what I would expect of Dudley that it’s beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing how he reacts to everything he learns about the wizarding world. It’s clear that he’s a fish out of water but it’s also so clear that he’s willing to learn and willing to try to accept the changes that this new life has brought him.

Title: Pomegranate Seeds by Page Thirteen

Rec’d by: FurmidableRogue

Link: here

Summary(taken from FFT):I think it is perfectly logical to suggest that Asian grandmothers are like fey,

always tricking you into joining them with food.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what FurmidableRogue had to say about Pomegranate Seeds: “If you’re sick of being locked away in quarantine or just need a hug, you need to read this story. It is such a beautifully heartwarming look at family and acceptance and love through an asian grandmother who refuses to let you leave without having eaten something. It’s so pure. And feels like its from such an authentic place. Just a wonderful warm hug of a story.”

Tasha’s thoughts: So once again, we’ve reached a story that I haven’t read. (suprise, surprise) but it sounds interesting. Sadly, I haven’t explored much of the original fiction on the archives but this one sounds like it might be a good place to start.

Title: Nothing to Lose and Each Other to Gain by down-in-flames

Rec’d by: MalfoysFrostKitten (Hey look another one)

Link: Here

Summary(taken from FFT): Falling for your surfing instructor probably isn't considered an 'appropriate' family vacation activity.

Reason for Rec:

Tasha’s thoughts: There is a reason why Taylor is known for her jily fics and this is no exception to that. This was such a beautiful AU that I was left wanting more and needing a sequel. I can’t even begin to express how much I enjoyed James and Lily in this story. It was so cute and refreshing to see a relationship develop and not start with hate like we hear about in most fics. Lily is everything I want to be and I couldn’t ask for a better characterization for her. Not to mention that Jame is such a gentleman in this story that my heart is full and I might have to set sail on the Jily ship now.

Title: Woven Together by PrideofPrewett

Rec’d by: frostquill

Link: Here

Summary(taken from FFT): Before her marriage to Arthur, Molly knitted a blanket that became a fixture in the Weasley household. See the many ways in which this blanket offered warmth, comfort, fun, leisure, and much more to each member of the immediate Weasley family.

Reason for Rec:

Here’s what frostquill had to say about Woven Together: This is just perfect Weasley family fluff, but with hints of family tension that makes it feel all the more real.  Love it, and Courtney Lynn writes from the kids' perspectives particularly well.

Tasha’s thoughts: Hooray for more Weasley family fluff! Once again we have come across a story I haven’t read but considering I had an idea for a similar story centered around Molly and hot cocoa, this one is sure to bring a smile to face and maybe a few tears to my eye. I love feel-good family stories and from what it sounds like this one will fill that need.

Title: shenanigans by abhorsen/beezie

Rec’d by: MalfoysFrostKitten (Hey look another one I’ve read!)

Link: Here

Summary(taken from FFT): rulebreaking can generally be divided into three categories: some are nbd, some are dangerous, and some are outright illegal.

victoire and fred understand these distinctions, but they have never been particularly interested in them.

Reason for Rec:

So for anyone who has seen my comments and conversations with Branwen this rec should come at no suprise. I love this story and it has quickly become one of my favorite fics on the archives. The amount of detail that Branwen has put into this story and the way the plots all weave together works so wonderfully that it almost doesn’t seem like fic. I’m a sucker for romance novels and I think this story is better than some of the “bestsellers” I’ve read.

Vic/Gallagher is now my second OTP and I can’t get enough of their story and even the multiple AUs that she’s written featuring these same characters. I’m fully invested in their relationship now and I have forgotten what life was like before I started reading this fic.
