Poetry Recommendations
I'm not much of a poet myself, so I'm always incredibly impressed by people who can weave words into something beautiful and resonant. These recommendations are for poems that do just that and that leave you with that feeling of "oh."
lingering darkness: two bad girls by @viking grumpy fox
Collection Genre(s): Angst, Dark, Drama, Romance
Collection Summary:
if i could not be me
i would not
be me.
Reasons for Recommendation: This poem is brutal. I hate, hate, hate that I can relate to it and that I know so many other girls and women can too. It takes what should have been a carefree moment in two girls' lives and turns it into something ugly and frightening. This poem shines a light on the misogyny and objectification that so many women face. It will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth and a spark telling you to keep trying to change things for the better.
When I was Young by @Chelts-rhj
Genre(s): N/A
Summary:
When I was young, I was nothing short of amazed, by the beauty.
(A contrapuntal poem.)
Reasons for Recommendation: This is hands down my favorite poem I've read on the site. It is phenomenal. I'd never read a contrapuntal poem (as far as I remember), and I honestly can't imagine why not. Because this is absolutely everything I ever wanted in a poem. It definitely gave me the oh moment I was talking about above and it got deeper and more beautiful through each read. (Make sure you pay attention to how to read the lines; see Chelts' author's note for instructions.) This poem makes my bisexual heart so happy. I'm almost certainly going to print it out so I can read it constantly.
