Mystery/Crime Recommendations

I totally stumbled upon these three stories at different points in time since joining the FFT. But they are all AMAZING if you are looking for stories that feature a well plotted mystery with morally ambiguous characters whose pasts are slowly revealed to us as present events unfold. So if you’re looking for something that fits all of THAT, these stories got you covered.

The Color of Violets by @kuusi palaa→ Abby creates such likeable characters that grab you from the beginning. You really want to know what's up with Evan and what happened to him to make him a grumbly social justice warrior and reluctant hero. She also gives us this dark, gritty setting that really sets the right kind of mood for this mystery. There's also an amazing femme fatale, OC, who just changes everything for Evan, and if you have not read this yet. Definitely do. Oh yes, and fringe HP characters are also relevant here.

A (Really) Cold Case by @juls-and-kittens → Do you ever just stumble upon a story with an interesting premise and think, hmm...let's check this out? And then do you ever feel totally floored/stunned by it that you become obsessed with said story? Well that's what this fic did for me. Juls writes an AMAZING original fiction piece that weaves so many unique elements together. Fans of The White Queen or Tudor history fans in general, remember the two princes who mysteriously disappeared from The Tower of London? Well this is the story you need in your life if you want to see it explored in a totally unique way! Juls gives us so many great perspectives of this historical period while creating an unlikely team of investigators (a modern day vampire and his mortal nephew) who work so well together as a team! I was on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what happened or how she would interpret one of histories greatest mysteries. And I was not at all disappointed. In fact, I want more in this universe. And I hear Juls might be writing more (so yay!). :)

Ilvermorny Memoirs by @Chelts-rhj → No pressure to write more of this Chelts, but seriously I love this story and hope you return to it! I love how Chelts immediately gives us vivid characters and is keen on representation and diversity in this story. Marcy, Candace, and Zara have a lovely friend dynamic (with hints of something more between Marcy and Zara) and something totally weird is happening to Marcy that they need to figure out. Seriously, I hope you return to this one day Chelts because I NEED to know LOL. Also, there's a totally adorable support dog in this called Posie. Settings are well plotted and immersive, and Chelts does a great job of transporting the reader into Marcy's mind and feeling all of the things she feels.
