Warpaint (M) by @crimson comet

One of the most original and engaging next-gen stories I've read in a while, featuring Albus Potter and Bianca Forestieri, as they navigate their sixth year at Hogwarts. The story alternates between Bee's point of view and Albus's - both written in firt person narrative. What I really admire most about this story is the originality of the characters. There are So. Many. Albus Potter fics out there; it's increasingly difficult to come up with something novel, but Abbi has well and truly done it here with Albus's characterisation. With all the expectations of his surname heaped upon his shoulders (and an at times insufferable older brother), he has anxiety issues and is lacking in self-confidence. In contrast, Bianca (or Bee, as she is better known in this story), is at the other end of the scale; glamorous, confident and has absolutely no time for people like Albus (does she even know he exists)? 

A tragedy at the beginning of sixth year has Bee re-examining some of her priorities in life, and various chance occurrences lead to her forming an unlikely alliance with Albus, which blossoms into something else over time. The plot is both entertaining and suspenseful as certain events unfold through the year, and not everyone is who they initially seem. One thing I especially love about this story is the subtle, dry humour throughout this story, especially when narrated by Bee. She's adorable yet smart and sassy, and has very expensive tastes in handbags and shoes. 'Warpaint' is a lively roller-coaster of a story which will take you through a whole gamut of emotions, and if you haven't already read it, what are you waiting for?
