humour is the worst. it reads so easily, it makes you smile, it makes you laugh... but it's so hard to do - even badly. it's incredibly difficult to do it well, to make it actually funny and funny to a broad audience of people. (as i say, it is the worst.) but. isobel is so good at it: she takes this simple, unique idea of retelling the minutes of a hogwarts staff meeting and translates it into a story which will make you smile throughout, if not actually laugh from the very beginning of the story. 

the minutes format is so cool and so inspired and it brings her characters to life in their own words: both the narrator - our secretary, lysander beauregard - but also the other teachers, even those we don't know well from canon. and they're all so dynamic and so different: isobel has fleshed all of them out so well with their own habits and voices and pre-existing relationships and it's addictive. trust me, you'll read this story and want more from her about these characters and the shenanigans they undoubtedly get up to behind the scenes
