some romances are nice and sweet. others are steamy and sexy. others still are slow and gentle and hesitant. some, like this one, are sad and quiet and a little bit heartbreaking. but sometimes you need that or want to read that: a romance which ends rather than begins, where people are separating and regretful about it even if it's the right thing for them and the romance, well, the romance of what they had isn't enough to keep them together. and it's so beautiful even though it's sad.
the characters are perfect, the setting is gorgeous. you'll sympathise with them both and understand almost too well why - and you won't necessarily want them to stay together, but you'll want to comfort them both at once, perhaps regret a bit that it didn't work out. it's brilliantly understated: everything about this story is soft and subtle and gentle in a way which stories aren't often, but which allows the emotions in this to flourish.
it's a sad romance, yes, it's the death of a romance, yes, but it's whimsical and carefree and serene and light-heartedly, softly sad and you will love it for that even if it is, well, a little bit heartbreaking
