this deliciously dark story features a super snarky oc - alida selwyn, who is an expert potioneer but is unfortunately thrust into an arranged marriage with regulus black who is…well. mostly quiet around her but can be pretty snarky himself which is a+++. and the way cat has written the story, you’re feeling chills all over while reading it – the atmosphere is super fucking tense literally all the time, which only makes sense considering that it happens during, yk, a war, and alida is surrounded by death eaters and her new family who she can’t really trust…but then. but then there are little bits of humour and snarky thoughts that cat wrote perfectly that really offset the atmosphere and offer little relief and make you laugh (and then you get serious again because that’s the story).

there’s also kreacher, who i’ve also really enjoyed reading – he doesn’t usually feature much in stories, but with what i’ve read so far (i’m up to chapter 8!), i have a feeling he’ll definitely play some kind of a role in this whole plot.

in some instances you’ll be reading these morbid scenes, like alida getting drunk in grimmauld place with kreacher…and then regulus comes in and it feels like one of those dark dramas you would watch in the theatre and it’s perfect. just like…the atmosphere is everything and the way cat characterises her characters is amazing and i can’t get enough of it.

alida is awesome and you will root for her from the first moment you start reading, and well, i love her okayyy
