Cake, Cake, and More Cake!
I don't particularly enjoy baking, if I'm honest.
But you know what I do enjoy? Decorating my bakes! In fact, I usually just bake to get to the decorating part (and the eating, of course)!
It was just something I started doing randomly one day about ten years ago. I had just moved into my first solo apartment and was throwing a housewarming party, which I decided to theme as a bit nerdy (Harry Potter cake pops, Minecraft cake, Doctor Who fishfingers and custard, etc). I followed designs I saw online, read instructions, did what I was told, and had a lot of success, but very quickly felt like I wanted to make my own designs and ideas, not somebody else's.
So, when Halloween rolled around, I took on my first solo project - these Monster's Inc and The Nightmare Before Christmas cupcakes:
After that, my neighbors asked f I would make a birthday cake for their son, who liked Minecraft, so I decided to make him a Minecraft Cake cake:
When my birthday rolled around next, I decided to make my own cake this year, with a little Potter Puppet Pals inspired design:
And pretty soon it just became a new fun and creative outlet for me! Over the years, since I first began, I've made a lot of birthday and holiday cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. So, in no particular order, here are some of the other cakes I've created, with some little descriptions about what they were made for:
My mom and step-dad's wedding cake, which took place in sunny San Diego, hence the beach theme and his-and-hers flip flops:
A Christmas log cake with pinecones, holly, sugary snowfall, and a sweet little bird:
A simple Thanksgiving drip cake, decorated with chocolate hand-painted leaves:
A hilarious Rick and Morty themed cake for my youngest sibling's birthday:
A 60th Anniversary cake for my grandparents on their diamond anniversary:
A Christmas themed golf cake for my step-dad, whose birthday is on Christmas and who loves to golf:
Easter, Halloween, and Mother's Day themed sugar cookies:
A romantic newly-weds cake for some family friends:
A birthday cake for my husband's brother, who loves pizza and his cat:
Three years worth of birthday cakes for Fin's foster brother (the latest of which I made yesterday under very quick conditions, hence it being much simpler than previous years):
A Father's Day cake for my father-in-law (my first attempt at mirror glaze - Jaffa Cake flavored, hence the decorations, but I would definitely glaze them too next time, as they look so dull compared to that shine):
A TARDIS cake for my husband's uncle, plus a bonus tractor cake for his friend:
A simple, classic Black Forest Gateau for my husband's birthday:
A cake I made when my husband's family had too many apples and asked if I would make something with them:
And cupcakes for World Book Week for my husband's sister's school bake sale:
I have more, but not all of them got good enough photos to share, so that's it for now! Perhaps I'll share some in comments later if I find any more! Hope you like! Which is your favorite? Also, try new things! You never know what you might end up being good at and enjoying!
