The Weirdest Thing in Your Search History

We all need to do research for our stories in order to make them as accurate as possible. Sometimes, that research ends up with us having quite bizarre search histories as we search for those hidden tidbits of information.

What's the weirdest thing in your search history?

Not sure what the weirdest thing I've searched but I do know that my search history has probably gotten me on some sort of watch list, and I wish there was a way to go "I am seriously not planning on mass murder or bombs - I am just a writer - I swear!"

I think my worst search though was bombs and explosions around the time when there was a rash of them elsewhere in the world.  I was terrified for a time - like legit.

Not sure exactly what the weirdest is, but I write so much about mental illness and trauma that the number for the Samaritans once came up when I was googling something. Google apparently thought I was a risk to myself.

Well...As one of the resident dudes on HPFT, mine has to be searches related to figuring out the appropriate name for a womens' hairstyle or piece of clothing. The embedded ads I get after those searches are amusing to say the least.

Haha! This is a great topic. Back when I was writing my Founders fic, my search history had a lot about medieval public punishments and causes of death. :P

I don't think this is the weirdest thing I've searched for but along the lines of ads that don't apply to me, I've had ads for engagement rings (I've been married for 5 years) and medication that only men take.

These were based on search history.

For my OF book, I have a lot of searches about the anatomy of a knife, texture of dragon scales, stab wounds in relation to arteries, and fabric densities.

Ooh, I just remembered one I had. When I was writing my first fic, it was a romance novella and I needed some information for the sexual scenes...so I searched up how to French kiss :P

I didn't end up going into that much detail anyway, so it was a bit pointless ??

oh, now I feel weird for not having a weird search history - but this thread is truly hilarious :D

btw what does it take for one to say

I'm a writer

?

it sounds really cool, and I envy people who truly feel that :) I write, but I'm not a writer, it's just a hobby... ok getting weirder and weirder...

I think the weirdest thing has to be "botanical name for marigold". It's weird because I wanted that botanical name to be used in one sentence regarding Herbology exam. I could have made up something, but NO. I had to go and google it!

Awesome. That's the sort of stuff that's normally in my search history xD

Right now I'm writing a really dark and twisted OF that I sort of got an idea from a Korean manga I've recently become obsessed with (it's currently all over the internet, and just really dark and murderous). But due to this OF I've unfortunately had to do a tremendous amount of research on PBD and sociopathy and all of that fun stuff, so right now it's probably...

How to kidnap someone effectively

But I've had weirder. There's also stuff about places you can stab a person so that they won't die and then you only give them medical attention restricted to a household first aid kit.

I'm most definitely on some sort of sadist watch list.

Mine right now is how to kill someone during sex without leaving a trace...It's for a story I'm trying to plan about a witch similar to a black widow murderer but as a succubus. I have yet to find anything :(

I'm a writer I swear!

Tasha I am 100% with you, and I totally understand the first part as it's also my struggle!

How do sadomasochists think?

Everything about PTSD

Please don't arrest me for my weird searches, I'm just writing a novel, I promise you.

The fun part is when you can't find what you are looking for so the searches get stranger and stranger as you try to find a new way to phrase your search to find the right information.

My OF has made me Google things on various ways of murdering people in weird ways, drug cartels, guns 101, a bunch on cocaine and the like...

Altogether, it looks really bad.

I've searched the usual, like how much blood loss the human body can take before you lose consciousness, where on the body is the worst to get shot, etc.

I think the weirdest was "What does it feel like to get hit in the face with a baseball bat," mostly because of how specific I needed to get :P

Guest Tanda

So many kings in Wales, Scotland (or England maybe?) around Hogwarts Founders era. So confusing.

Haha, yes :P Though, TBF, I had no idea until my friend who's allergic told me back in high school.

I heard that history was a kind of novels in the past and it has just become a subject to learn at school recently on the radio in my car. The records were written by the winners and some facts from the loser's POV has been deleted by the winners. So it's interesting it happens that nobody can prove what is really right or wrong.

Oh this thread is absolute gold and have to bring it back to life. Some of the weirdest things I've had in my search history would be:

1. a bunch of information relating to wand making and different types of wands and the special properties of each item in the wand.

2. a bunch of different disorders though as a psych major I just often refer to my textbooks I still have but every once in a while they are too far away and I don't want to get up :P

So I guess those aren't very weird when you really think about it but I do still have a bunch of pages pinned for the wand information even though I never actually wrote the story and was only ever in the planning phases for it :P

i was sat here trying to think of something weird that i've searched and couldn't come up with anything until i realised i once heavily researched drugs for an old OF of mine, like i was going in on this stuff

my most regular searches are probably for names, but i do look up anything and everything tbh :P
