Congratulations - you've found your Defense Against the Dark Arts OWL! When it comes to defending yourself against darkness, waving your wand wildly will get you nowhere. Now is the time to show what you know.

 

This is one of your core OWLs, and you are required to pass it before your final exams end on June 28. If you're ready to start it, you must post in this thread prior to making any of the posts/reviews/stories it requires. Be aware that though you are free to begin this exam at any time, once you sit down your house cannot begin another exam until you’ve completed this one. Keep in mind that the higher your score, the more points you'll earn, and you may find that a higher mark is a prerequisite to moving onto another exam or area.

 

Below you will find prompts for attacking, defensive, and tactical spells that can be used to achieve your ends. Determine the spell, and complete the task associated.

 

To receive an A-Acceptable:

• Correctly complete all of one (1) category.

 

To receive an E-Exceeds Expectations:

• Correctly complete all of two (2) categories.

 

To receive an O-Outstanding:

• Correctly complete all of three (3) categories.

 

Attacking Spells

 

Attacking spells require you to leave one (1) review on separate stories. Each story on which you leave a review must have a title starting with the same letter as the spell.

 

1. Acromantulas attack!

2. Simply stunning.

3. A wall is in your way.

4. Conjure a snake to fight for you.

 

Defensive Spells

 

Defensive spells require you to leave one (1) fic recommendation. The story that you recommend must have a title starting with the same letter as the spell.

 

(Example: Expelliarmus = stories that start with ‘E’)

 

1. Blocked.

2. A superior foe chases you into a house. You secure the door.

3. It’s a Dementor! Don’t stop believin’! Hold on to that feelin’!

4. While cleaning the attic you open a box and out springs your worst fear!

 

Tactical Spells

 

Tactical spells require you to leave five (5) questions in a Writer’s Journal of your choosing.

 

1. You’re defending a whole village. One spell can alert you to an attack.

2. Trust can be the ultimate in security.

3. This mission calls for stealth. Best to be like a chameleon.

4. You’ve lured your enemies into a trap. Don’t let them escape.

You only have one chance to submit your exam, so choose what mark you want to aim for carefully. Should you run into difficulties, you’re free to take a fail - but be aware that you won’t be able to change your mind later, and it may result in other areas of the maze and exams (along with any advantages passing them bestows) becoming permanently inaccessible to you even if you can find them the exams themselves.
