Congratulations - you’ve found your way to your NEWT exam for Potions!

 

Before taking this exam, you must have achieved the following:

• A in your Potions OWL
  
• A in your Herbology OWL

 

Should you take this exam without doing so, your results on it will be voided and your house will lose points.

 

At NEWT level, students are expected to show a good understanding of the subject and the ability to perform to meet expectations.  What you’ve learned in your Potions OWL should have stayed with you as it will help guide you through your exam today.

 

This is one of your core NEWTs, and you are required to pass at least three core NEWTs before your final exams end on June 28. If you're ready to start it, you must post in this thread prior to making any of the posts/reviews/stories it requires. Be aware that though you are free to begin this exam at any time, once you sit down your house cannot begin another exam until you’ve completed this one. Keep in mind that the higher your score, the more points you'll earn, and you may find that a higher mark is a prerequisite to moving onto another exam or area.

 

There are three potions that you may brew for this exam:

 

• Polyjuice Potion
  
• Felix Felicis
  
• Veritaserum
  

 

You do not need to brew them in any particular order. 

 

To receive an A - Adequate:

• Successfully brew one of the listed potions.

 

To receive an E - Exceeds Expectations:

• Successfully brew two of the listed potions.

 

To receive an O - Outstanding:

• Successfully brew all three potions.

 

Below you will find the directions for brewing each potion. Please follow them to the letter or you may find yourselves having to start over. NEWT level potions require a bit more skill and time to brew. 

 

For each potion, you will have to follow the same general directions in order

[*]Gather all ingredients and supplies and post them in a threads you start in your CR dedicated to your Potions NEWT.

[*]Follow the directions for brewing.

[*]Complete the required wandwork.

[*]Repeat steps 1-3 as necessary.

 

Polyjuice Potion

Ingredients

Brewing Directions

This potion takes twenty-four hours to brew.  No more, no less.  If you complete all of the necessary steps before, you must wait until twenty-four hours have passed until the potion is complete.  If you do not complete within twenty-four hours, you will have to start over.

[*]Transfer or post three (3) new reviews to HPFT on stories that mention one of the ingredients in this potion and post the links in the thread.

[*]Wait a minimum of one (1) hour.

[*]For the wandwork, complete this Potions Logic Puzzle and post your solution.

[*]Wait a minimum of two (2) hours.

[*]Gather the last three (3) ingredients and post them in the thread.

 

 

Felix Felicis

Ingredients

Brewing Directions

Felix Felicis must be brewed at very specific time intervals.  Refer to the official HPFT Site Clock to ensure you are completing each step at the proper times.

[*]This potion must begin brewing at either precisely the stroke of Midnight or Midday.  The time to brew is twelve hours.  You may decide if you wish to brew at 12:00AM or 12:00PM, and everything you do after that will be on the hour at exactly the time stated.  Gather the first three Ingredients and post in the thread at exactly 12:00AM/PM GMT.

[*]Transfer or post one (1) new reviews to HPFT on stories written by authors of each of the other three (3) houses and post the links in the thread at precisely 3:00 AM/PM GMT

[*]Add the last three ingredients at exactly 6:00 AM GMT by posting the images in the thread.

[*]Transfer or post one (1) new reviews to HPFT on stories written by authors in each of the other three (3) houses and post the links in the thread at precisely 9:00 AM/PM GMT

Brewing Directions

You only have one chance to submit your exam, so choose what mark you want to aim for carefully. Should you run into difficulties, you’re free to take a fail - but be aware that you won’t be able to change your mind later, and it may result in other areas of the maze and exams (along with any advantages passing them bestows) becoming permanently inaccessible to you even if you can find them the exams themselves.
