How to Earn House Cup Points

House Cup points are earned by: 

• Winning awards (Head Student, Story of the Month,)
• Hosting, participating in, and/or placing in challenges
  • Prefect and staff writing events are worth additional points
• Participating in and/or winning House Cup events
  • Exact point structure varies by event, but often there are participation or other points available in addition to points for winning/placing

Because we've received some responses to our survey saying that they were confused and unclear on exactly how House Cup points are earned, we've decided to make this comprehensive post detailing what activities earn you House Cup points (and the point value for each activity).

You may earn House Cup points by participating in site-wide House Cup events, by participating and placing in writing challenges hosted by members, prefects and staff, and by earning the Head Student and Sitewide Story of the Month awards. This is a breakdown of how we award House Cup points that aren't related to a specific event. From the 2019/2020 House Cup season and going forward, FROGS awards do not count towards House Cup points. Sitewide House Cup events (House Cup Opener, Halloween Event, reviewing event, the Finale and any additional House Cup events) have their own point structures which are explained during the course of each major event.

Writing Challenges - note that placement points are awarded only if there are more than three (3) entries.

• member hosted challenges
  • participant = 5 points (awarded to all entries)
  • 1st place = 20 points
  • 2nd place = 15 points
  • 3rd place = 10 points
  • hosting = 10 points (awarded if challenge was judged within 90 days of challenge deadline)
• official prefect hosted challenges
  • participant = 5 points (awarded to all entries)
  • 1st place = 50 points
  • 2nd place = 40 points
  • 3rd place = 30 points
• official staff hosted challenges
  • participant = 5 points (awarded to all entries)
  • 1st place = 100 points
  • 2nd place = 75 points
  • 3rd place = 50 points

Head Student = 75 points

Sitewide Story of the Month = 25 points
