MAGIC - Rules/Schedule/Overview

:cheering: Welcome to the opening event of the2017-2018 House Cup!   :cheering:

We are going to be playing a game called MAGIC.  No, not Magic The Gathering.  :P  MAGIC is HPFT's version of BINGO!

Event Overview:  This game will run all month and will have three rounds.  The first week will be for task submissions.  The next three weeks will each have a round (though we don't expect rounds to take a full week).  For each round, your house will be provided with two MAGIC cards to play, although you may purchase additional cards if you wish.  The goal of the game is to get the coverall/blackout (fill all your squares), but each round will also have four additional special MAGIC patterns.

Schedule:

  • September 2-8 Task Submission
  • September 9-15 Round 1
  • September 16-21 Round 2
  • September 22-29 Round 3

Points:  Each task submission will be worth 1 point.  Special MAGICs will be worth 40 points, and the coverall/blackout will be worth 75.  Additional cards cost 20 points each.

Rules/How to Play:

  • Staff will act as the caller, posting numbers and their associated tasks in a public call thread.
  • In your common rooms, you will work with your house mates to complete the tasks.  Please keep some form of organized list so staff can easily check once you MAGIC.
  • If you get one of the special patterns or the coverall/blackout, post that you have MAGICed in the call thread.
    • Because the special patterns are intended to help spread the points out a bit among houses, you may only call one special pattern (other than the coverall/blackout) per card you play.
  • You must have successfully completed all the tasks in order to MAGIC (the special ones and the coverall/blackout).
  • Rounds end once a house has gotten the coverall/blackout.
  • If the same number/task appears on more than one of your boards, you only need to do it once but can check it off everywhere it appears.
  • You are not required to play all your boards if you prefer to just concentrate on one.

G36- Write public messages to 3 members you've never spoken to before

Does public mean on their wall?

Yes, it means posting a comment on their wall :)

I has question :)

Quote
  • Posts on the forum should be 1000 characters where possible.  This includes blog entries.
    • Topics where it's hard to add much (not much discussion happening) should be a robust 5-sentence paragraph
    • Topics or tasks such as status updates, posting a list of questions, participating in a game, etc. obviously don't need to be 1000 characters long

So I know it says here for lists of questions wouldn't need to be 1000 characters, but is there a minimum requirement for the number of questions? Like for G41 - Post writers journal questions for three staffers.

Thanks! :D

Are we supposed to be fitting the letters into the white spaces to make a quote?

Since questions is plural, at least two. :)

Yes, that's correct.

9. What competition did Vernon Dursley receive notification of that he was a finalist in at the beginning of HBP?

It's the beginning of OotP, not HBP ;)

Excuse me, where can we purchase an extra card? xD

Your new card is now posted in your common room! ^_^

I checked on this, and you are correct @BlackPixie. I have updated the quiz to reflect the correct information, and to avoid further confusion.

Thank you so much for pointing this out!! ^_^

Sorry to bother you guys again, but I have another question.

"Submit headcannons for each house to the HPFT Tumblr"

What exactly does it mean by 'headcanon'?  Like, as in how we personally regard each house?  Also, in what format?  Text vs Picspam/Other Graphic?

Hello, I have a question. Do we have to do the task one at a time? Or can I do two or three at once (if possible)?

You have to do a separate thing for each task (you can't just combine multiple tasks into one thing, such as counting one review for two different tasks), but you do not have to work on them in the order called and can work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

C74Create a moodboard for characters from each of the three other houses.

Does this mean three different moodboards, or can the characters be combined into one?

What I mean is...if I do say A1....and then I have time to do C4 with different content....can I do that? Or do I have to wait for someone else from my house to complete a task before I can do another?

I guess the person who came up with that task knows best, but I interpret it as 3 mood boards. However, if you make one big one with three distinct regions, I don't see a problem with that.

You do not have to wait for anyone else before doing another task. Go ahead and do as many as you would like.

can i get some clarification on what a blackout/coverall would mean? would that be like a traditional bingo (i.e we have a task completed for each letter and the squares form a straight line)?

@Dojh167 If the story is posted on HPFT, it's preferable that they be left on HPFT. Also, each letter should be 1,000 characters.

@poppunkpadfoot A Blackout is where you have filled up your entire card - for our purposes, completed every single task on one (1) your cards.

I had a quick question...

C66- Submit a headcanon for each house to the hpft tumblr

C67 - Create a post with a brief handcanon for each house (Tumblr)

Is there a difference between them aside from wording?  Do we just have another member do similar?

Erm...no, I don't think there is a difference aside from wording.  :/  While I did remove a bunch of duplicates before making the final list, I obviously overlooked this one.  :oops:To avoid confusion from switching tasks, I think it's best to just keep this as a duplicate and do two different headcanons to fulfill the two different tasks if you have both on your card(s).
