MAGIC - Task Submission Info

Recommended Posts

Before we can play MAGIC, we need to make a list of tasks so we can populate the game boards with them!  That's where you come in.    You have until September 8 to use this form to submit your suggested tasks.

We need a minimum of 15 tasks in each category!  Fifteen tasks will be chosen at random from each category prior to each round (for a total of 75 tasks, of which each board will contain 25), and these tasks will then be associated with numbers on the board.  Task 1 will be M1, task 16 will be A16, task 31 will be G31, task 46 will be I46, task 61 will be C61, etc.  The categories are:  reviewing, writing, posting, games/quizzes/trivia, and social media.

Examples of tasks (yes, you can steal any of these):

  • Leave a review for a member of each of the other three houses
  • Review a Marauder's Era story
  • Write a drabble about a subject of your choice
  • Write a Sorting Hat poem
  • Leave 3 questions in someone's writer's journal
  • Post a blog entry
  • Write a backstory for a shopkeeper in Diagon Alley
  • Get a 100% on this Sporcle quiz
  • Correctly answer the following trivia questions {include your list, obviously :P }
  • Create an aesthetic that can be posted on HPFT's Instagram (use Pixlr or a graphic editing program of your choice)
  • Reblog 2 of HPFT's Tumblr posts

Staff will check the submissions for duplicates (you will still get points even if someone else submitted the same task idea, but it will only appear in our task pool once) and for suitability.  Anything that seems too difficult or vague, we will edit.  As a general rule, anything you write (reviews, stories/drabbles, poems, backstories, headcanons, blog entries) should be 1000 characters in length (including spaces).  Posts should be a substantial paragraph (a minimum of 5 robust sentences).  Some examples of exceptions include: reviewing something shorter than 1000 characters, making status updates, leaving questions or story recommendations, certain types of poems (such as haikus).  Please keep the length guidelines in mind when submitting your tasks to keep your tasks reasonable.  Remember also that you are going to have to be doing three rounds of these tasks--so do not make them more difficult than you yourself can handle!  :P  This is supposed to be fun, not completely overwhelming.

*raises hand* I hope it's okay if I post here. I was wondering if it's okay for members of each house to collaborate on creating task ideas?

Just a reminder - in reading through discussions you all are having in your CRs and looking over the submissions so far (we've got around 250 right now), I want to remind you all of this:

Remember also that you are going to have to be doing three rounds of these tasks--so do not make them more difficult than you yourself can handle!

In case I didn't make the rules/overview clear enough, the game goes like this:

  • Each MAGIC card has 25 squares.  Each square is ONE TASK.  Just one.  One task per square.  That means 25 tasks per card.
  • You get 2 cards per round (though are not required to play both if it's too overwhelming).  You can also purchase additional cards if you wish to increase your chance of MAGIC-ing.
  • There will be three rounds.  Yes, three.
  • Rounds do not end until someone gets the blackout/coverall (fills an entire card/finishes all 25 tasks).
  • If you play just one card, you still will be doing in the neighborhood of 75ish tasks.  That is a lot of tasks.

We're going to do our best to weed out or modify any too-difficult/time-consuming tasks (our suggested word/character limits will help too), but you definitely have some control over how difficult and overwhelming this entire event will be.  Before submitting, think about whether you really want a single task to be something like "write 5 blog entries."

Does the deadline of 8th September include Friday, or do we have to submit our suggestions before then (like 11.59pm GMT tomorrow)? :)

I'm going declare it closed sometime Friday evening in my time zone (US Central or GMT-5).  I don't know the exact time.  This is because I'll be popping in to do it when is convenient for me in the evening. :P  It should be close to 11:59 GMT, but I will not promise that exact minute.  I highly recommend that you submit your ideas now rather than waiting to the last possible moment.

So just to clarify but do you only submit one task suggestion after you selected the task category? I guess what I'm trying to ask if you selected: WRITING for example, do you only put one task submission on the line like: write a fanfiction about your least favorite character per se or can you put multiple of tasks like: write a fanfiction about a minor character you wanted to know more about, write an original fiction about the words BINGO, and write a fanfiction about House Unity for that selected category? Does that make sense?  Or do you want us to submit it one by one of the task even if we have multiple of ideas and submissions?

You fill out the form one time for each idea you want to submit.  If you have many ideas, that does unfortunately mean filling out the form many times.
