Replacement for Scrivener?

I have Scrivener on my personal laptop and I have really liked it as a way to organize my thoughts and plan storylines for novels. However, I have a nicer laptop for work, and I now use that one more or less exclusively because I don't want to haul both of them around. I cannot install application on my work laptop, however, so I can't download Scrivener to the new one.

Long story short, I want to find a system for planning my stories that lives in the cloud, so that I can access it from any device. I feel like Google Docs should work but it doesn't give me the same 'planning spark' as Scrivener.

Any suggestions? What has worked for you?

I thiiiink ywriter can live as an installation on a flashdrive, if you're amenable to that?

when i don't use scrivener i tend to use a combination of google sheets, docs, and keep. keep is great for jotting down notes and lists -- i tend to use it for basic outlines, plot points, and character notes so i have can just glance at the jotted points if i need to look up details. i use sheets for detailed planning (characters, chapter summaries, chapter outlines), and docs for the actual writing. or sometimes i just use a notebook and sticky notes. i don't really know about other apps though, i haven't explored them much.

After some exploring with ywriter and google drive, and dinking around the interwebs, I found a website I'm going to try called reedsy. It's not totally ideal for fanfiction purposes, because there is definitely some emphasis  on selling work, which obviously I"m not going to be doing with fic. But the structure is similar to Scrivener, so I'm going to try it.

I'm still open to other suggestions or generally to suggestions of places to write digitally that might be helpful for others, so if anyone finds a great resources, by all means leave it here!

hey, i can comment here - i used ywriter for years (wrote my first and only nano project on it! good times!), and i really actually liked it. the only reason i switched to scrivener was because i figured i should treat myself, but ywriter has a lot of the same features (scene moving, word count targets, spaces for character profiles, etc) that i'd happily go back to using it again, it's a really great program and i'm really happy that it's free lmao, and it should work as a portable program for anyone else that is interested in alternatives

nowadays, i use a word doc for my main planning - i.e., chapter outlines, plot points, etc- and then i use scrivener to actually write things. i know a lot of people use googledocs but i am really bad at making it work for me, it slows down my browser a little, and i have two google accounts - one for my phone, and one for my computer - and i struggle a lot with switching between the two. so i'm a good ol' word doc person, but to be honest, the only thing i don't like is that it's not portable; when i'm out and about, if i have an idea, i just have to use the notes app on my phone - i don't mind it but my notes app is now a total mess, which is a strong vibe
