Camp NaNoWriMo PenPals

Hi all!

This month we will provide the opportunity to have a penpal again! The idea, which came from @MuggleMaybe, is to give people a pal to write to over the course of the month. This is a great opportunity to get to know other members better and to encourage each other to meet writing goals!

Here's how to participate!

- Post saying that you're in by 11:59pm GMT on March 30th.

- We will pair you up with someone. The goal is that it will be someone you don't know very well or haven't interacted with a whole bunch. (Pairings will be posted on April 1st GMT)

- You must commit to writing to your penpal AT LEAST 4 times throughout the month. They don't have to be very long letters, but they should be substantial and encouraging. Ideally, you'd check in more than that, but 4 times is the bare minimum.

- We are only allowing each participant to have one penpal. We want you to have an opportunity to really get to know your penpal.

What can your penpal do to help encourage you along?: Doing rat races together usually helps me write. Also, just talking about their progress, and kinda cheering each other along, even if one or both of us only wrote like 50 words that day. Just having someone to talk to who is also doing NaNo seems to help.

What can your penpal do to help encourage you along? Rat races are really motivating, and I find it helpful sometimes to just waffle on about my characters and/or the plot but honestly, I need a good kick to get going and constant prodding/poking/pestering. I promise it helps!

Yayyy!!! I love penpals SOOO MUCH!!! My last 2 NaNo writing buddies have been absolutely STELLAR, so how could I not sign up for a Camp Penpal this month too!?!

What can your penpal do to help encourage you along?: Rat Race with me!! And also, poke me to race if I am not the one initiating it, because God knows I'll need it, lol!! I'm totally a Chatty Kathy, so I would LOVE to talk to you about your story/project!! Also, I tend to generate ideas really well when I can chat with someone about my story too, so it would help if you were at least familiar with the fic a bit. Idk what it is, but talking about the story/upcoming events of the fic/what all needs to happen and has yet to occur; that always puts me in the mood to write!! But if you do not WANT to be spoiled on anything, it's cool. I can totally resist that urge and only share the bare minimum, lol. (You just need to let me know ASAP if you do not want any spoilers, because I might get excited and accidentally let something slip in conversation.) But if you're down to chat about it, then feel free to ask me questions - all the questions are good! I need to keep this story on my brain constantly so that I will actually write about it!!

Y'all should know by now that I will procrastinate for DAYZ!!! I am likely to spend all my time on twitter and/or the forums, mindlessly browsing all the things, instead of writing... (#truth) So if you see me doing this, please stop me at all costs. - Oh, and my other weakness is PicSpams. Dear god, I cannot tell you how much time I've spent (during many a NaNo now) procrastinating by making PicSpams/Moodboards, lmao!!! (Like, seriously, half the picspams in my About Me that were done by ME were all made during the NaNo/JulNo months, lol!) So if you see me doing THIS, please remind me that even though the graphics are pretty, the story ain't just gonna write itself!! I honestly need this kind of accountability in my life right now.

What can your penpal do to help encourage you along?: Asking questions at my novel post to help me think of the plot or new idea. Sometimes, if you are possible, have a look at the part of the draft or a few reviews on new chapters sounds great.

I'll send encouraging graphics or hand drawings or comments on a new chapter posted at hpft archives, questions on your novel nest, etc...rat races fine if our global time fits well (mine is 9 hours + GMT).
