Ineke Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 What weird things have you had to google for your novel? Post them here, along with what you found out!
Guest Tanda Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I googled the origin of the name, Salazar Slytherin for one of my fanfictions, A Prayer. My conclusion is that House of Slytherin came from Portugal. Quote The name Salazar is originally a Portuguese family name. António de Oliveira Salazar was a fascist dictator of Portugal (where Rowling lived for several years) from 1932 to 1968. Rowling stated that the name "SalazarSlytherin" was chosen after the Portuguese dictator's name. (Harry Pottr Wiki)
WanderWitch Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 @StarFeather It's true, it is Portuguese. I still can't believe JK started drafting Harry Potter here tbh

Then I found this in Wikipedia. ↓ Quote During the Visigothic era (around the eighth century), the County of Coimbra was instituted by King Wittiza; a sub-county of his dominion, it was established as a fief for his son Prince Ardabast (or Sisebuto), with its seat in Emínio (the Visigothic name for Coimbra), which persisted until the Muslim invasion from the south. Then I need to research more such as Moors and the early Portuguese monarchs for describing House of Slytherin.
