Er, hi. I'm not really sure how to start this novel nest because I don't really have much to say about the project I'm working on. It is what it is, I guess.

This is my second time doing Camp NaNo, and last time around, I think there were multiple projects I worked on, but this time I'm pretty much going to focus on Glass+ only, especially since I've already written so much of it.

Basically it's just about how Teddy deals with the trauma and abuse he's gone through (or rather.... how he doesn't), and how he comes to realize that what happened to him was in fact wrong, as well as how this affects the people around him, and how he chooses to deal with things moving forward. I'd provide a character description of him, but I find that it's quite hard to pin down what sort of character he is, especially since he himself doesn't know who he is.

Anyways, I currently have a backlog of about six chapters, and I'm working on Chapter 8 right now. My goal is to at least write 500 words per day, making that a goal of at least 15,000 words for the month. I want to have a posting schedule of uploading every other week, but honestly, we'll see about that.

Hey there! I'm here to leave a bit of encouragement and a few questions!

1. You mention that Teddy has been through Trauma. What sort? Was it a singular event or repeated instances?

2. You have a backlog of 6 chapters. How many chapters do you anticipate this story being?

3. As a veteran Camp NANO-er, what things do you do to help yourself be successful? Do you have any tricks you can share?

Good luck & happy writing!

Thank you for the questions, @TreacleTart! I appreciate them very much! ❤️

1. You mention that Teddy has been through Trauma. What sort? Was it a singular event or repeated instances?

Hm... Teddy's trauma stems from several things, actually. There are two instances in which he can't stand to think about, but the rest is just accumulated trauma from the emotional and verbal abuse he endures. Some happen to be repeated instances, and that leads to him being conditioned to certain things.

2. You have a backlog of 6 chapters. How many chapters do you anticipate this story being?

I currently have about fourteen chapters planned out for this thing, and after that I can see things winding down. So maybe anywhere from 14 to 16 chapters? I know it seems like I'm really close to finishing, being about only six to eight chapters away from the ending, but really, they're massive chapters. My longest one so far has been 5.5k words, and it looks like the current one I'm writing will also exceed that count.

3. As a veteran Camp NANO-er, what things do you do to help yourself be successful? Do you have any tricks you can share?

I think this might be cheating a little, but honestly, I don't really mind. I almost always begin writing a week before NaNo starts to get myself into the habit of writing. I also set aside a hour's worth of time during the day to write, so that way, I'm sort of conditioned into writing at that specific time slot. Also, outlining. Outlining was my godsend when I first did NaNo, and it's what helped me way exceed my word count that time. If I didn't have an outline, it turned out that I looked at a blank page for the entirety of an hour which wasn't helpful at all.

Haha lol, I meant to update this as I wrote, but that didn't happen. Anyways, I reached my goal of 15k words! I'm currently at about 16,160 words and counting! I'm working on chapter eleven right now, and my outline has changed a bit since I started. Things were pushed back by about two chapters, so now the story is sitting at about 16 chapters? That's subject to change, still. I've never been this motivated to write before, and I hope that energy carries on throughout the coming months!

hello it's me, late as per usual. it honestly slipped my mind that i still have rewards to give from my challenge way back when, but here i am. WJ questions for you delivered as promised ?

1. first of all, congratulations on your nargles nominations! all very well deserved btw. out of the fics nominated, which character in them do you feel closest to and why?

2. you've mentioned that glass is very personal for you and i guess kind of cathartic?? is it hard to put out something so meaningful or would you say that this kind of what writing is meant to be like?

3. on a lighter note: what cliché trope are you a sucker for? ;)

4. if you were to recommend one fanfiction to a non-reader, which one would it be?

5. is there anything you don't particularly like in fanfictions? like any squicks or tropes you're tired of like the nerdy girl having no friends and wearing glasses hello wattpad?

6. how's the weather like babe

7. what's one thing you wished jkr explored more of in canon?

Hey, @dirigibleplums! You're good about the questions, haha, I seriously didn't have a journal until a few days back!

1. first of all, congratulations on your nargles nominations! all very well deserved btw. out of the fics nominated, which character in them do you feel closest to and why?

This is a very mean question, okay? I really don't want to choose but... It's really just the fact that Radha represents the struggles of living in Indian culture and my experiences with it as someone who grew up in America, and then there's Teddy, who quite literally is a manifestation of many of my own thoughts and experiences. Although I'd love to say that it's Radha that I'm closest to, her reality is not mine. It's Teddy's that is, and I empathize with him much more, even if the cultural aspect isn't there. Basically, this is the long answer of me saying that it's Teddy.

2. you've mentioned that glass is very personal for you and i guess kind of cathartic?? is it hard to put out something so meaningful or would you say that this kind of what writing is meant to be like?

It actually isn't that hard to put into words! This is by far the easiest (and most ambitious) thing I've written, and it has helped me a lot in coming to terms with myself, how exactly to define my own experiences, and what that means in the long-term . The only hardest part is that I actually do a lot of experimentation in this particular story with the panic attacks, the PTSD, and the grief. These are all aspects that are all very new to me, and I'm always having to note down every little thing that might help to make the story more believable. It is slightly easier because sometimes my experiences do sometimes overlap with what I'm attempting to write.

3. on a lighter note: what cliché trope are you a sucker for? ;)

I'm not sure I'm a sucker for any trope, actually! I'm a sucker for certain characters though, like Albus Potter. I swear I'll read any story even if it has only a mention of him.

4. if you were to recommend one fanfiction to a non-reader, which one would it be?

Have you heard of Dormitory 2.6a by dirigibleplums? I've read and it's 10/10. Coming close in second is pretty much anything by deceptive-serenade, and as for third, Remember the Slytherins by iLuna17. The latter one has a special place in my heart, as it's one of the first Harry Potter fanfictions I've read.

5. is there anything you don't particularly like in fanfictions? like any squicks or tropes you're tired of like the nerdy girl having no friends and wearing glasses hello wattpad?

I nope the hell out of a fanfiction when I see that it romanticizes unhealthy relationships without intent of condemning them. I also don't like when people romanticize abuse and trauma either. I know these aren't tropes, but I see this happen so often that they almost feel like tropes.

Oh, I also don't like it when they make the popular girl also synonymous with the mean girl? Why can't the mean girl be the nerdy girl for once? Not to mention, most of the time the popular girl is regarded as not human, or not developed to be a 3D character.

6. how's the weather like babe

Currently feeling very hot here, thanks.

7. what's one thing you wished jkr explored more of in canon?

I really wish that JKR explored Parvati, Padma, Lavender, and Fleur a bit more. They were my favorite characters. I liked Hermione, but when I was fourteen, I thought Hermione couldn't compare with those four girls because I was more curious about them.

I was so happy to see that you mentioned Remember the Slytherins by Ellie/iLuna17.  She and I were Slytherins at together Mugglenet Fanfiction, both of us "shocked" at being sorted into the green and silver House (at MNFF, you didn't have a choice; the Hat made the decision).  She was a fine author; her author page demonstrated great development in writing skill from the earliest stories to the latest.  Ahhh, the memories.

Really??? She was (and probably still is) a great author, and for the longest time her works influenced my own (as well as upstarted my own writing hobby). I don't know, I just remember thinking that there was just something so heartbreaking and beautiful about Remember the Slytherins, and I also remember that I couldn't stop thinking about this story for the longest time. I recently just contacted her on fanfiction.net about how this particular story ended, and I'm very glad to have the privilege of knowing. Like I said, it's really close to my heart, and also happened to be the story that sparked my love for Albus Potter.

The very same! Her stories are literally my safe haven and I always go back to her stories for comfort. Did you know that around a year back that she uploaded a new Albus Potter/OC story? It's just as good as her other stories and I really like the themes she explores in it, especially since they hit so close to home!

I started a fake dating fic for a challenge. This is also Teddy/Victoire, and it was meant to be a one-shot with 8k words, then it was meant to be three-shot with 17k words, and now the monster is 22k words and I don't know what I'm doing anymore. Apparently I'm on Teddy/Victoire kick, so that could be it. Either way, I'm having a lot of fun writing it! I don't have much else to do these days, which explains how I managed to write that much in about 21 days.

I also have a bit of plunny that is set in the Glass universe, but has nothing to do with Teddy. Actually, it's more about Harry and Ginny. I have a bit of a headcanon about the two of them being in a polyamory with another woman together (as well as having a child together) and I have a few ideas of where the story might go. I might write it for the Queer Your Faves challenge, but that's all up in the air right now. We'll see I guess.

Hello friends.

I'm back for Camp NaNo again because it's the summer time and I have way too much time to be doing nothing this month. Also, because I've been losing my mind over doing nothing and everything boring me, and writing is my only fallback.

So! Last time around I only focused on my novel, but this time around, I have quite a few projects to be working on!

Glass+

Quote

Q1hYFD3.png

I know I feel weak, but I know I'm strong."

Teddy told this to himself as often as he could, but he wasn't sure he believed it.

I've explained this story so many times that I think that I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote down Camp April.

Quote

Basically it's just about how Teddy deals with the trauma and abuse he's gone through (or rather.... how he doesn't), and how he comes to realize that what happened to him was in fact wrong, as well as how this affects the people around him, and how he chooses to deal with things moving forward. I'd provide a character description of him, but I find that it's quite hard to pin down what sort of character he is, especially since he himself doesn't know who he is.

And, uh, yeah. In Camp April I made it to about halfway through chapter 12, and I haven't worked on it since. I'm hoping to knock out a few more chapters, and I think that'll go pretty smooth since this story's all planned out, save for working out a few kinks.

Mirrors

aka 'Cemetery Capers' (and i'm seriously considering changing the name to that)

This is my entry for the 'Queer Your Faves' challenge hosted by @Queer in Knitted Things. It has evolved into more than a plunny, and at 5.1k words. I think it's going to finish as a very long one-shot, which I'm grateful for, as I don't want to deal with another monster like Home+ again. This has been more of a figure it out as you go story, and I probably won't be able to get in all the headcanons and scenes that I want, but I think it'll turn out pretty good! I'm hoping to finish this sometime within the first few days of JulNo, so this is a priority project for me right now. It's also part of the Reflections series, which as you know, is the series that Glass is a part of.

"Against All Odds" series

i seriously just made up that series name right now

So, this was definitely not expected. As I was working on 'Mirrors' literally yesterday, I got like four more ideas for one-shots, and they're actually really good ideas. Usually I just note them down in the hopes of expanding on it more, but I'm usually never inspired enough for that.

I'm not really sure how to explain this series really, but a common factor among all of them is that it focuses on one character who has had something Bad™ happen to them, and pretty much what their thoughts are, how they deal with it, what they're going to do moving forward, etc. It's basically a 'Glass' story for these characters but on a much smaller scope. Coincidentally, these oneshots also happen to be in the Glass universe, which is great, because I can expand on headcanons I have for characters in that universe that aren't really touched upon because the story takes place within a certain time frame, and also because it's in Teddy's point of view.

What ideas do I have so far? Well...

Ginny Weasley - oneshot about how her "relationship" with an older guy when she's eleven (similar to what happens in the books, but this time around, it's not Tom)

Sylvia Zhang - oneshot about the aftermath of the death of her best friend (this character is the main character in 'Mirrors')

Harry Potter - oneshot about what happens after he escapes the Dursley family and moves in with the Weasleys

Albus Potter - oneshot about his depression and anxiety

These are obviously dealing with some heavier topics, and to do it justice I'll have to really know what I'm talking about. I think some of these will be easier to write just because of experience, but I still don't want to screw it up. I'm going to really try to keep them as a oneshot, and possibly as just microfiction, but I'm more flexible on that. I'm considering trying to enter it into the 'Feminism is for Everyone' challenge.

(Also, this series was inspired somewhat by @grumpy cat's Dark Days.)

Word Goal

So... that's pretty much it. I think my word goal this time around will be 30k words. A bit too ambitious for me, but that's what Camp NaNo is all about, right? :P

Anyways, if you got through this insanely long novel nest, you're a real one. Thanks.

Posted

Back here again because in the two days I was gone from this novel nest, things have changed up on me again. I won't be entering Mirrors in the Queer Your Faves challenge, purely due to the fact that I don't know how to read. So now it's just a fun little fic about Harry (sort of), Ginny, and Sylvia. That means that it's no longer a priority project for JulNo, which is great because it was mildly stressing me out. I think I can put more work on Glass this Camp NaNo, and put Mirrors on a slight hold.

On that note, Glass keeps changing on me. The outline keeps changing on me. I don't know, I guess it's a good thing if I'm finding ways to improve it, but lord is it annoying to rework things over and over again. I think what I'm going to try to do today is rewrite my outline and change the timeline up a bit. And then we'll see where we are.

Hello!

I actually have been meaning to comment on your Nano Nest and I'm already intrigued by the premise of Glass if I'm being honest. It sounds like a really interesting story involving Teddy dealing with trauma and abuse and I already want to know more about what happens with him. I like that he also doesn't know himself because I love when characters learn and or discover more about themselves so that should be interesting to write as well. I feel like I would definitely need to sit down at some point and give this a read as I’m genuinely drawn to this story. Ooh 12 chapters already? That's awesome! Can I ask how many chapters did you have in mind for this as a whole story? Either way, I'm very intrigued!  I do want to clarify with you but from what I read, you're still writing Mirrors/Against All Odd series but not doing them for Jul Nano then I take it? If not, feel free to correct me, I just wanted to know since I did read your update about it not being a priority anymore and just focusing on Glass instead.

I actually have a few more questions regarding Glass and Camp Nano as well so I’m going to leave them here:

1. What can you say is one of the most memorable things about writing Glass so far? Did you learn anything from it? Or did you feel good about a scene you wrote? A dialogue? Word choices? Anything?

2.  What’s your favorite thing about writing Teddy Lupin so far?

3. So is that Min Yoongi in the header for the story? If so, would you say that he’s your dreamcast for Teddy Lupin hmm? Or was that a random decision?  (By the way, your header/graphics is lovely, I must say I really like it because of the colors and text and Min Yoongi hahaha but really I love it! ;w; Also the texture/background is great too!)

4. What’s your favorite thing about Camp NanoWriMo? How about your least favorite?

5.  If you have to give a tip to anybody participating in Camp NanoWriMo, what would it be?

Overall, I just want to wish you the best of luck with all of your works that you have planned and or been wanting to do and I hope that in spite of the story constantly going through rewrites/changes as well as those struggles to keep up with it, I hope that you’ll be able to keep writing and never give up! I cannot wait to read Glass and if you do get around to writing it, Against All Odd and the Mirror series hopefully. I also hope that you'll be able to fulfill your 30k word count goal as well! You can do this! You got this! ?

Hi! I'm glad you find Glass interesting! It always makes me really happy to hear that from people because sometimes it feels like I'm putting chapters out into the void, haha. Yup, there are already twelve chapters. I think that's one of the biggest reasons that I've been able to keep a fairly consistent uploading schedule. And as for your question, I originally had it planned out to be fourteen chapters, then it was sixteen, and yesterday, I finally got a chance to sit down properly to write down all of my ideas, and I think the final count will be eighteen chapters, not including a possible epilogue.

My apologies for being vague! I still intend to put some work in towards the Against All Odds series as well as Mirrors, but my main goal is to chip away at finishing Glass. These Camp NaNo's are really the only way I can motivate myself to write for Glass, and I might as well take advantage of that. The other projects are there as a buffer just in case I need a break from Glass or I just get bored of writing for it.

To be honest, I don't know. I have a few things that I remember that stuck out to me, like how freaking happy I felt when I finally got to write a few of scenes I've been imagining since Glass' conception. And I also specifically remember that I really liked writing the chapter that's probably going to come out next week or something, despite how heart-wrenching it is. I especially like writing about his recovery process, even if it is only mostly one step forward three steps back.

I also really learned a lot from this story! I mentioned it in my author's note for chapter eight, but writing Glass has helped me better equip myself for writing Miracle, a WIP of mine that I haven't touched in a year (but I swear I'll come back to it). When I planned out the rest of Miracle, I remember feeling really daunted by everything that I have to keep in mind, but writing Glass has made me a little less nervous. I really appreciate Glass for that.

2.  What’s your favorite thing about writing Teddy Lupin so far?

My favorite thing about writing him is how easy his thought process comes to me, sometimes. Teddy Lupin may not belong to me, but his characterization and every quirk all but does belong to me. Of all the characters I've written, he's the closest to me by far. But not everything that happens in the story happened to me though. I feel the need to clarify that.

Yes! It is Min Yoongi. I've had a lot of people think I chose him as the dreamcast for Teddy Lupin because Min Yoongi literally is my bias, but by far I think what made him the perfect dreamcast was because of how often he changes the color of his hair. Although it only comes up a few times in Glass, that tiny detail struck me as really fitting for the Teddy Lupin that's a metamorphagus. Also, I remember thinking DNA era Yoongi's hair color was literally the perfect shade of blue for the iconic hair most people (including me) imagine Teddy to have!

Oof, I'd say thanks, but the banner was made by Lola. over at TDA! I'm personally in love with every banner they have made for me and I almost always request them specifically if I need a banner for a story!

4. What’s your favorite thing about Camp NanoWriMo? How about your least favorite?

My favorite thing has to be the community that HPFT offers, tbh. The atmosphere here is the biggest reason why I feel compelled to write. Not to mention the fact I really don't want to disappoint the people here (which I find to be both odd and cheesy). My least favorite thing? Writing. I mean the outlining process. I would literally recommend this to every writer here, but I would be the first one to say that it's annoying as hell, especially for someone like me who isn't the most creative gal around. To come up with the events that lead up to the climax is like pulling teeth out for me. How I came up with the story for Miracle was literally a miracle.

Like I said before, being prepared (aka outlining) for what you're about to write significantly helps in reaching your goal. If you're anything like me, then you probably have a lot of anxiety about the events that happen before and after the scenes you have imagined in your head.

I think I'm at least going to try to keep this thread active, unlike last time, where I only updated on Twitter because it was easier. Anyways, I'm on track to keep my 1k words/day avg. and Glass has broken 60k, which I find amazing. It hasn't been great in terms of my own health these past few days, so I don't really know how much writing I'll get done, but here's to hoping, I guess.

Posted

My health is still kind of crap and I'm a little bit ticked off tbh. I went on a three day trip and I couldn't write those few days at all, and now it feels like I can't write at all. I'm going to try to get down a few words today, but it's very likely I'll tell myself an excuse and read more fanfic. I don't know. We'll see I guess. On the bright side, I have a few more ideas for scenes in Glass, so I'm a tad bit more inspired.

Hi! I'm popping by with a few questions!

1. What originally drew you to write Teddy Lupin?

2. You've said before that what you write tends to be deeply personal. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

3. When you're in a rut, do you have a go-to way to force yourself to write?

4. If Teddy had one song, what would it be?

5. How's NaNo going?

Paula! Hello, it's nice to see you here. :^)

9 hours ago, crowsb4bros said:

1. What originally drew you to write Teddy Lupin?

Hm, well, originally, Teddy Lupin was the love interest in a short story that was meant to show how Victoire Weasley met him. I thought it was just going to end at that, but I wrote in a lot of details about him in that story that confused even me, and I wondered about why Teddy would be like that, and that was what spawned Glass. At first I wasn't really all that interested in him, but after I read 'you again' by @just.a.willow.tree, I was inspired by her interpretation of him and I started making him my own character, and then I started to like him. A lot.

2. You've said before that what you write tends to be deeply personal. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It energizes me! Sometimes I do have to take a step back and take a breather, but usually I'm never gone too long from the story.

9 hours ago, crowsb4bros said:

3. When you're in a rut, do you have a go-to way to force yourself to write?

I'm not the best at this to be honest, haha. Most of the time I usually end up not writing for months at a time, but in recent weeks, what I've done is start on a new idea (that isn't a novel, I'm not out to torture myself) and try to get creative again.

9 hours ago, crowsb4bros said:

4. If Teddy had one song, what would it be?

Anything by Sia, really. But I think 'Alive' by her is an incredibly fitting song for him though.

Uhhh, I'm definitely a little bit behind, but hopefully I'll be able to catch up soon. My word count right now is around 5,223, and that's not including the words I'm going to write today.

Posted

Finally after like two weeks of writing, I think I have somewhat of a rhythm going. After the road trip I went on, writing honestly felt like pulling teeth. It was painful, you guys. I'd only get like 400 - 500 words in per day, and one of the scenes in chapter thirteen just dragged on for me and it was so hard to get words down. I think I broke it yesterday though, as I managed to get down a good 1,500 words down and begin chapter fourteen. I finally feel comfortable with settling myself in Glass' world, haha. :P

Not sure if it's great or not, but when I reworked Glass' outline, there were two pivotal scenes that I just had to cut out, and after a few days I thought I'd finally let go of them, but they came back full force two days ago and have not stopped bugging me since. I think I might do one-shots for those scenes or something. I've also been looking at the new challenges on the archives and God I just have to stop myself from entering all of those challenges all at once like freaking fiend. The 'five plus one' challenge and the 'pick up line' challenge are looking awfully tempting. Someone stop me, dear God.

Anyways, so that was all a lie.

Uhhh, so. I wrote about 2k+ words yesterday and I'm pretty close to putting my word avg. per day to 1k so that's good. I'm entering the 'five plus one' challenge against the protests of my mind--my heart couldn't resist.

Also wrote about 2k words last night and I'm back on schedule, I think. The one-shot for 'five plus one' challenge is going, while Glass... is not. Writing is writing, I guess.

Yoooooo but I actually finished my one-shot for the 'five plus one' challenge? It's a lot longer than I thought it would be, but it's there! It exists! And it is finished!

So, now the question is, do I wait to post it? The thing is that it's part of the Glass universe, and does feature that Teddy there. It technically doesn't spoil a lot of what happens/what will happen in the story, but there are some hints of it. I may just say screw it and post it because I'm actually really proud of this one.

Now this story had me questioning whether I really know what friendships and romance are lol
