crowsb4bros Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Welcome to Camp NaNoWriMo! We hope you all have stored up your caffeine, stretched your typing fingers, and are prepared to rat race! What is Camp NaNoWriMo? Camp NaNoWriMo is a novelling extravaganza that occurs every April and July. On April or July 1st, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a novel by 11:59 PM on April 30 or July 31, of which the amount of words can be set manually. This can be a novel of any type: romance, action, sci-fi, fanfiction - and is not solely limited to prose novel format: graphic novels, thesis papers, comic strips, etc. can also count. As long as it has words and is being written or created during Camp NaNoWriMo, it's fair game. Where Do I Sign Up? You can sign up officially on the Camp NaNoWriMo website (campnanowrimo.org), which is free to do and very easy - there, it provides you with a way to track your wordcount, a counter to officially verify your word count at the end of the month and a whole host of pep talks and messages of encouragement through the way of a cabin, in which you can invite members to. Of course, we know that not everybody wants to sign up for Camp NaNo there, and to participate in Camp NaNo on HPFT, you don't have to have an 'official' account at all - just sign up in the sign-up thread and you're on your way. Do I Have To Do 50k? Not if you don't want to! You can aim for as big or as small of a target as you'd like to! Camp NaNoWriMo also has the option of doing time based goals rather than word count based goals. These hourly goals are ideal if you're editing a completed story or if you prefer to have less pressure focussing on word counts. Is This Compulsory? No, not at all. A lot of our members do participate, but it's not essential to participating in the site, the House Cup, or anything else. We know that while a lot of our members do sign up, others are busy or unable to join in for various reasons. You are missing out on nothing by not signing up. If you have any other questions about Camp NaNoWriMo, feel free to post them here or message a member of staff and we'll do our best to help you out! Quote
