Do you ever start writing a novel with a concrete plan in mind only to discover things about your story you never knew? Does your main character suddenly show an interest in painting or did something happen out of the blue and surprise you?

I didn't know I would use the same folk tale which is used in Weathering with You fandom while writing my story.

I didn't know I'd be writing a Next Generation story. I've never touched this era before so I hope I get the characterization right.

I didn't know that Hermione's dad was going to be as much of a focal point in the start of my story but I suppose changing his job from his canon one has something to do with it. 

So in Children of War Hermione's dad is a 50 year old detective sergeant transferring from Oxford to Gloucestershire at Professor McGonagall's suggestion after his direct superior officer was found to be corrupt. 

This story is set in the Trios first year.

so apparently jily quidditch fic now also has a very strong espionage storyline?? also i think i'm killing off a character now whoops

I didn't know how long this was going to end up being. I'm at 45k and nowhere near the end.  I thought this was going to be closer in length to Fake It (~50k) than my other stories but I guess not!
