grandchild Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 if you hadn't heard me chanting yet, you can bet your bottom dollar i'm going to be chanting even MORE about nano from here on out! fun questions: will i hit 50k words before i burn out? what am i working on? both of which are very valid questions. to answer the first one: who knows? to answer the second one: i'm dividing my attention between six different projects. focus on one thing at a time? cue disgusted kombucha meme face. the midas touch [4 chapters/20k words] hockey potter (LOL will this ever get done) [one ... one shot, roughly 5k words] hunger games au [edit chapter 1 & 5k misc words] stardew valley [10k words] avengers au [plan & 5k misc words] pre-s2 legacies [plan & 5k misc words] am i being ridiculously ambitious? yes do i care? probably also yes, but we will pretend i do not for the air of nonchalance and that's that on that! x
victoria_anne Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hey Emily! Wow, six projects, NaNo should be a breeze 1. Do you have a system in mind or will you be working on whatever project you feel inspired for at the time? Is there one you're particularly looking forward to writing? 2. Can you give us a sentence or two on what each project is about? Looks like you'll be pretty busy during November, so good luck!
grandchild Posted November 2, 2019 Author Posted November 2, 2019 ahhh hi @victoria_anne!!! thank you for stopping by! i don't really have a system beyond "write whatever i feel like writing" - having six projects helps a bit with that because i don't feel trapped in just focusing on one? even though i've said i'm aiming for 20k for the midas touch, it's really my main project, but the others exist around it (it's the only story that's majorly fleshed out and the OG as far as the golden age 'verse is concerned). i get bored quickly, but i'm most excited about it, so i'm hoping that this nano more than 50% of my words go towards getting it past chapter five! a sentence on each.... oooh, i like this the midas touch - a stereotypical enemies to lovers with a divination murder twist. hockey potter - what if the main sport played wasn't ... quidditch... but it was ice hockey? (sponsored by @facingthenorthwind, @belgian quaffle & @Alwynse's group chat on twitter because i know very little about american colleges and non-nhl hockey) hunger games au - i was thirsty for alexander ludwig and this just happened. stardew valley - i pin my trauma on a character and vicariously live through said character because i can't get therapy avengers au - i don't actually have a summary for this beyond assassins. that is all. pre-s2 legacies AU - mysterious new girl appears at the Salvatore School but she's up to something decidedly evil file this under: things that got too deep too quickly.
800 words of heaven Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 I have tried the "write whatever I feel like" approach before, and I applaud your discipline in being able to manage so many stories all at once! I haven't written with any sort of dedication for so long, now, and I feel like a big problem of mine has always been a lack of focus, and too much choice. That's why I've ended up with so many WIPs, and even more half-baked ideas, and really nothing concrete to show for it. That's why I'm trying this NaNo to only stick to one project, to eliminate the option of writing another story if I get "bored" or whatever. Do you experience anything similar? Do you have any thoughts on managing keeping The Midas Touch your main focus? That is all to say that I am here to cheer you on through any one of these projects, because they all sound amazing!
grandchild Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 @800 words of heaven !!! getting bored is the biggest mood of my writing tbh! the sole reason i've listed so many different projects is because then i won't feel guilty if i do slip and go on to write 30k of hockey potter because it was 'planned' all along. in an ideal world, i'll have written the majority for TMT but i can't account for future me's whims, so i'm just trying to minimise how much my brain hates me if it goes offtopic (which it does on the regular (both of those actually)) so yeah i'm just finessing my own brain into not feeling bad if i don't work only on TMT

So relatable. It's amazing how much guilt I feel when I write something that I wasn't planning to, when I should just celebrate that I've been writing anything at all. As the unofficial NaNo word count monster, how are you tracking so far? Which projects have you written for the most? Which ones do you wish you'd written more for?
grandchild Posted November 15, 2019 Author Posted November 15, 2019 @800 words of heaven ahh bless you for your encouragement! i feel like this sums up nano more accurately than i could ever put into words so:
