MrsDarcy Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 The Anne Clarke Chronicle Being a rather indecisive individual who uses quite some time choosing what to wear in the mornings, only to put on something else later, I've decided to rework my whole fic The Anne Clarke Chronicle, because... reasons But mostly due to a major plot issue at the beginning. So all chapters will be brands new, expect some of chapter 2! Anyways, the story follows Anne, who's working her butt off as a waitress at Mary's Mugs in Diagon Alley. Amidst her sad existence she is, quite unexpectedly, offered a position as nurse at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Stuff will happen, mostly surrounding werewolves, secret cults, and missing socks. (characters will include Anne Clarke (OC), Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, Dumbledore, Poppy Pomfrey and a bunch of others) __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I plan to have the first three chapters done by the end of November, the first one being near finished
victoria_anne Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Hey there! Wow, this sounds fantastic! (And deciding to rewrite is such a pain but always worth it. I hope these new ideas go well I'm slightly obsessed by the idea of the main character being a nurse. I feel like members of staff offer such a cool perspective into Hogwarts, and a nurse especially is going to see all kinds of mysterious things, I'm sure! 1. Did Anne have nursing experience? Do you, or does this story involve a lot of research and/or making up magical diseases and injuries? 2. I'm guessing Anne will be treating Remus for his werewolf-ness. Do I sense a romantic subplot? 3. Will there be Marauder shenanigans? 4. What's the general mood of the story? 5. Can you tell us a little bit more about Anne? This sounds so exciting! Good luck
Bunbury Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Beth! I'm so excited for Anne Clarke 2.0, and I'm glad you're talking it on for NaNo, even if you're not aiming for 50,000 (which is also physically impossible for me btw :S). Here are some pre-NaNo questions 1. One thing I love about Anne is her fondness for 90s Muggle gadgets! What is Anne's favourite Muggle thing and why? 2. What's are some challenges Anne will face in her new job? And on the flip side, what about her makes her a good nurse? 3. What do you most love about Remus Lupin (it goes without saying that basically everything about Remus Lupin is very lovable)? I'll be back in November! Good luck
MrsDarcy Posted October 27, 2019 Author Posted October 27, 2019 @victoria_anne aw, thank you so much for these awesome questions! 1. Anne is a trained nurse from college, but she's never managed to get an apprenticeship (due to a difficult job market). Hence, she works as a waitress (she's 26 when the story begins). I've done a lot of research into the injuries and illnesses JKR has already established and played with a bit of original ones - either inspired by the real world or something utterly ridiculous played for laughs. 2. You can definitely count on some nurse-romance between Anne and Remus - expect a lot of complications with the occasional drizzle of cheese 3. The story is set in 1996 so they're all dead 4. Overall, it's a drama (someone finding herself during difficult societal times), with a bit of mystery and a fair amount of rom-commy awkwardness. I'd say the mood is somewhere in between being lighthearted and dealing with more serious issues 5. I find it so so hard to describe a character! But I think in many ways Anne is a girl-next-door type, being like, very normal Her strengths are her empathetic nature and her, at times, knack for awkward situations, which I find rather endearing? But she struggles with insecurities about her skills having never excelled much in school, as well as her tendency to give up and just accept mediocre situations I hope these somewhat answered your questions - and thanks again, you're the best @Bunbury Jaaaaannnnneeeee!!! lol, I'm lucky if i reach 5k 1. While the telephone and garlic press are definitely, like, practical objects, Anne's favorite 'gadget' is her car. It gives her sense of empowerment she's not used to feeling and rather likes? Anyways, her car is her pledged companion, which lack of practicality Snape finds rather bewildering 2. I think Anne has to learn not to overstep professional boundaries, such as saying stuff before she thinks and getting too invested in her patient's personal lives, which, on the flip-side, can be seen as her strength? Being able to connect with them? 3. I don't think everything about Remus is lovable - he does tend to fall under society's pressure and, sometimes, can be rather cowardly. Anyways, I love the way Remus exhibits the wisdom of an older man while maintaining a youthful sense of banter, which, in my view, creates a perfect balance (PS: sorry for being rubbish at explaining stuff, I'm working on it though)

MrsDarcy Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 chapter 1 is now available and ch 2 is soon finished snippet from ch 2: Quote If Anne had a list of excuses, it would trail from the bathtub and into the kitchenette, curl around the table and two chairs, then reel down the flight of stairs and plunge into the sewer in the street below I'm already on the third chapter, so perhaps I should raise the bar slightly and go for the 10k, I think I can do it
800 words of heaven Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 You can it, Beth! Reach for that 10k!! (That's me giving you a hi-5... with a fist bump)
