dreamshadow Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 From the Ground Up -or- Jill's attempt to write literally anything Howdy friends! As most of you are aware, I've been away from HPFT for... way, way too long. And as NaNo season is rapidly approaching, I thought it'd be good to get back into the swing of things -- at least in the writing sense. I love the community that comes together during this crazy month as we all try to hit 50k, or whatever goals we've set for ourselves. I've always been a traditional NaNoist, but this year, I've hardly written more than my Monster Fic™ (aka Something Like Gravity) so 50k seems a bit extreme. So this year, I want to write something. This nest is more of an accountability thread than anything, so please feel free to check in with me and poke me to make sure I'm writing. Here are the projects I'm going to be working on: Knockout Challenge: something to do with Astoria Greengrass and her relationship with her father, but that's about all the plot I've got so far. (Goal: something less than 10k) The T. Swift Song Challenge: modern AU in which Lily seeks out James to apologize for abruptly ending their relationship. Based off of Back to December, which will most likely be the title of this fic as well. (5k) Seeking Normal: a next gen Haunting Shadows meets Pride and Prejudice. Maddy doesn't remember what happened the night Zoe died, but she somehow feels responsible. Mixed with a ridiculous Quidditch rivalry against Roxanne Weasley, enemies to allies to friends to... lovers?, and a semester long project that might make things a lot clearer to Maddy, seventh year is going to be nothing short of a hot mess. (2 chapters) +Pinterest (M) So hopefully by the end of November, I'll have completed 2 challenge entries and actually started a WIP. I've thought about throwing OF in as well, but I think that's going to stretch me a little too thin. Feel free to ask any questions, say hello, or generally just poke me to be sure I'm writing
victoria_anne Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hey Jillybean! It sounds like you'll have plenty to work on in November and I'm excited for all of them! 1. Is there a particular project you're feeling a pull towards starting first? 2. Have you got more planned for the challenges, or are you just going to start writing and see where they go? 3. How do you feel about Seeking Normal? I know you've been meaning to rewrite Haunting Shadows for a little while now, and this one sounds great! Is there much planned? 4. Can you tell me more about Maddy? These sound like exciting projects, good luck in November! If you need someone to bounce ideas off, you know I'm here for you
dreamshadow Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 Hiya, B!! 9 hours ago, victoria_anne said: 1. Is there a particular project you're feeling a pull towards starting first? I'm planning to start the Knockout Challenge first, mostly because that one's got a deadline I need to meet first. Other than that, my plan is to knock out (ha... ha... I'll see myself out) my two challenge entries in the first two weeks, then have a "less stressful" two weeks focusing on Seeking Normal. But we'll see how that goes 9 hours ago, victoria_anne said: 2. Have you got more planned for the challenges, or are you just going to start writing and see where they go? I do have a little more planned! But for Reasons, I'm trying to keep the plots mostly secret. 9 hours ago, victoria_anne said: 3. How do you feel about Seeking Normal? I know you've been meaning to rewrite Haunting Shadows for a little while now, and this one sounds great! Is there much planned? I'm actually super excited about Seeking Normal. I sort of have big picture stuff planned -- like what happened the night Zoe died, the project Maddy's going to be working on, and, uh... that might be it. But I'm looking forward to writing it. 9 hours ago, victoria_anne said: 4. Can you tell me more about Maddy? I can tell you little things, like Maddy was a five minute hatstall between Slytherin and Hufflepuff, but ultimately ended a Slytherin due to her looking out for number 1 first. She's prideful, stubborn, and often comes across as cold because she's good at hiding her emotions. (Or Is She? ) Her parents aren't exactly the typical Slytherin parents, at least in the traditional sense. She also really, really doesn't like Roxanne Weasley. For... Reasons™. Thank you for the questions!
800 words of heaven Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Hey, Jill! We're a week into NaNo, so I thought I'd drop by and be that "accountability person". What have you been working on this past week? Are you happy with what you've achieved so far?

Thank you for being that person! This week, I wrapped up my Knockout entry and started writing my WIP, Seeking Normal. I was originally going to do challenge entries back-to-back, but my muse started dancing on SN so I went with that. I'm pretty happy with my progress, too; I'm super hyped about how this fic is unfolding and there's a chance it might see the light of day on the archives! And it's been ages since I've had a postable WIP, so that's exciting
