northbound24 Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 So I’m venturing into the dangerous waters of the NaNo river again this year. There are two projects I plan to focus on this year; The continuation of Fortune and Glory and the first planned story of the Children of War series. Project 1: Fortune and Glory The second adventure centred around original characters Jimmy Teague and Heather Parkinson who first appeared in A Hospitalable Proposal. Fortune and Glory is set in the fateful summer of 1899 when Albus Dumbledore met Gellert Grindelwald. The Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts canon details on this critical period of the life of Albus and Gellert are still vague so it’s ripe for exploration. So far we’ve been reintroduced to Jimmy and Heather who are now married with their baby boy Patrick, living in Godric’s Hollow. Grindelwald has come to the village and his Seer abilities have emerged and his motives for arriving in the village are already being questioned by the Ministry of Magic. Cast of Characters JAMES HENRY “JIMMY” TEAGUE- The rough-edged son of the respected Professor Obadiah Teague and nephew to Obadiah’s near legendary older brothers. Born and bred in Godric’s Hollow, Jimmy is adjusting to parenthood and marriage but Grindelwald’s appearance doesn’t bode well. ALBUS “Al” DUMBLEDORE- In one way Albus is the perfect wizard- intelligent, creative and handsome but the death of his mother has left him despondent leaving Jimmy, Heather and his brother Aberforth to care for Ariana, the Dumbledore’s damaged sister. GELLERT GRINDELWALD- The Austrian great-nephew of Bathilda Bagshot, just as talented as Albus but his sudden appearance in Britain has caught the eye of the Ministry of Magic. His Seer abilities unnerve the Teague clan as he seeks to unlock the secrets of the deserted village of Serpent’s Mere. HEATHER TEAGUE (NEE PARKINSON)- Heather may be a new mother and wife but she’s no pushover. A skilled duelist and expert on curses, she won’t let anyone harm her family or friends. OBADIAH TEAGUE- Jimmy’s father. He’s the teacher most students wish they had. The youngest of four brothers, Obadiah watched his brothers make their mark in wizarding history but knows the price one paid for fame. HORACE E.F SLUGHORN- The jovial potions genius who “resembles a walrus”. Despite his skills Horace bounces from idea to idea and relishes the thought of adventure much to the frustration of his mentor Fleamont Potter. GARRICK OLLIVANDER- The heir to the Ollivander wand making legacy and a wand-lore prodigy. And to Jimmy and Horace’s bafflement, he’s one of magical London’s most eligible bachelors. FLEAMONT POTTER- Horace’s mentor. The last of the pureblood Potter clan. With no heirs Fleamont has grown weary of life and become a “irritable badger of a man” Project 2: Children of War: Story One This planned series is going to start with a retool of the very first Eddie Teague story I ever did, a good few years ago. The family history he had then was completely different, though he was always Jimmy Teague’s great-great grandson. Some of the events of Fortune and Glory do inform the background to this series overall arc but the first story only hints at it. CORE STUDENT CAST EDWARD EBENEZER “EDDIE” TEAGUE- The newest member of the Teague clan to enter Hogwarts School. He has some level of reputation already due to his family history and near total Muggle lifestyle. RONALD BILIUS “RON” WEASLEY- The youngest of the six Weasley brothers and he can’t really believe he has the natural talent to match them, despite showing it from the start. He befriends Harry Potter almost instantly on meeting him. NEVILLE ALGERNON LONGBOTTOM- On first glance this lovable klutz of a boy is an unlikely friend for Eddie and Ron but somehow they work well as a team. Has a seemingly terrifying grandmother and a talent for herbology. HARRY JAMES POTTER- To the wizarding world he’s the legendary “Boy who Lived”, to the Muggle world he’s the baby who vanished in tragic circumstances one Halloween in Godric’s Hollow. Harry however just wants a way out from his horrible life with the Dursleys. HERMIONE JEAN GRANGER- On the surface Hermione’s almost too smart for her own good but at heart she’s a beacon of loyalty and stability. She meets Ron, Neville and Eddie thanks to Professor McGonagall. DRACO LUCIUS MALFOY- Eddie’s second cousin twice removed. A spoiled brat who doesn’t know when to stop annoying people who he sees as beneath him. Most people are surprised Eddie refrains from literally knocking sense into him. PADMA PATIL- The studious one of the Patil twins who wrangles some control over the more creative or downright mad members of the Ravenclaw first years. RUFUS FUDGE- The nephew of the Minister of Magic, this fourth year Hufflepuff has the Prefect badge in his plans, but will he go too far in this cause? DAPHNE GREENGRASS- The eldest daughter of a forward looking pureblood family. She is more of a traditional Slytherin unlike the likes of Draco. THEODORE NOTT- The only child of Postimus Nott, one of the original Death Eaters. A loner who detests Draco’s arrogance. I don’t really have a goal this year but encouragement and questions are welcome! Dave
800 words of heaven Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Hey, Dave! Both these stories sound amazing! It seems like you have a pretty solid plan for both, going forward? That's what I'm guessing, going by how well you know the characters. What is your planning strategy for this NaNo? And how do you think you'll switch between the two stories?

And how do you think you'll switch between the two stories? Hey I do have a solid plan for both of these stories as Fortune and Glory serves as the backstory of Children of War and as in canon Dumbledore, Slughorn and Ollivander cross over into Children of War. In terms of balancing the two stories it's looking easier as they lead into each other. Though I think Children of War will be interesting to write as it takes the Muggle side of things in regards to Harry's treatment by the Dursleys seriously and the reality that the wizarding community has to adhere to the Muggle laws as well. Thaks for the questions.
800 words of heaven Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Hello, again! I'm dropping by - in my guise as the NaNo word count monster - to see how you've been faring so far! Which of these stories have you been working on the most? Fortune and Glory or Children of War? Or... SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?! *gasps*

Or... SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?! *gasps* Well I've just begun the first draft of Children of War, it's looking very fun at the moment. Though Professor Snape being put in hospital through his own arrogance is always fun. And I've decided to involve Hermione's parents a lot more as the idea they're just dentists is too bland. So Hermione's dad is now a police officer. I have written and posted 3 chapters of a non-Harry Potter fanfic based in the Riverdale fandom on my AO3 account and that's 1,700+ words currently.
