BookDinosaur Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 friends! thank you for stopping by my wishlist. i am guaranteed to love anything that is made for me. i see that a list is customary, here is mine; i emphasise that literally any gift will likely cause me to expire upon reception reviews on my children fics, +All the Waves Resounded and +Clash by Night (both M) reviews on my friend's fic +The Tides of Swansea (M) +writer's journal questions anything derived or inspired by my stuff or me! picspams, book recs, music, go absolutely ham as you please i've spent a bunch of time trying to make a list of things i like and failing: mostly i like writing, tedromeda, and old films. i'm sorry to be so unhelpful that said, i would deeply welcome film recs! i welcome all, but my particular area of deep and obsessive interest is 1930s-40s hollywood but not, you know, the respectably classic stuff; i like proper trash. i like the studio recyclage of warren williams in 9 increasingly convoluted films as the lone wolf or 42nd street retooled in three months to get gold diggers of 1933 i realise this is ridiculous and niche, please let me repeat that nobody is under any obligation to pander to me if anyone cares to pander or just wants a have themselves a little stalk, my +letterboxd is free to view actually, that can be another point -- please make a letterboxd account and friend me! it's the goodreads for film and i'm always so so down to see what other people are doing with their film lives THANKS for reading through that rambling disaster! once again i reiterate that any gift will be deeply appreciated and may indeed make me cry. thanks and thank you

Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 I'm here with sort of an off-the-wall film rec for you: The Passion of Joan of Arc (M in case) is a stunning french film from 1928. The original version was lost for a time due to destruction by fire, but someone discovered a reel of it in a janitor's closet at a mental institution in Oslo (you know, like you do) and so we have it still with us. The film is based on historical records of the trial of St. Joan of Arc, and the actress who portrays her is inspired. If you can get it, I recommend watching the version released by the Criterion Collection, which features an oratorio based on the film written by Richard Einhorn. You can play the film with the oratorio as the soundtrack and they fit together very well.
BookDinosaur Posted December 7, 2019 Author Posted December 7, 2019 @Noelle Zingarella i LOVE this film, good god -- it's so close, so intimate, and so harrowing! when i had my desktop background on shuffle, the images were all film stills (because i'm ridiculously on brand like that) and there was one in particular from this film that always made me pause and *_* for a second (i shall post it below). i'm not sure whether the version i watched was of the einhorn oratorio, but i will check and if not it's as good an excuse as any to revisit the film thank you for stopping by!!! i'm delighted by this rec

Aphoride Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 EMILY! Happy holidays! I left you a review on All the Waves Resounded here+, and a couple of book reccs for you: The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton is a brilliant, twisting murder story that very genuinely kept me guessing right until the end, featuring a big country house full of deeply suspicious, awful people; and All the Lives We Never Lived, by Anuradha Roy, which is a stunning story about a boy and his rebellious, freedom-wanting mother in India. It's a beautiful, delicate kind of story, about love and art and happiness and family, and I think you'd like it
