just.a.willow.tree Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Emily! I am so utterly enchanted by everything you have in here! I am so impressed by your ability to blend textures and stock images together so seamlessly -- everything in your graphic bases just looks so smooth!! Everything is so inspiring because with each new graphic you make, you're experimenting with various compositions and textures/stocks and colorings, and it produces such unique, startlingly lovely results. In particular, I love love love your mermaid banner, and the "i was born to be lonely" banner. The coloring in both is just exquisite, I love! (And your fonts = , always! )

BookDinosaur Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 time for a gallery update post i think!! in these times of stress and abundant free time, graphics have become an unexpectedly calming activity, the result being that it's barely been a week but i have photoshopped images falling out of me everywhere i did consider asking a mod to simply change up the graphics in my gallery, but really, i kind of like the idea of a diary-ish format, with the documentation of Stuff I've Tried in here for posterity -- and with the bonus that this style means i can throw unsolicited song/poem recs at anyone who reads it this is a very roundabout apology for what is going to be a very long post. am i about to turn this gallery into a writer's journal but for graphics? very possible, let's begin first: experiments in chapter images (aka: it can only get better from here) SAFE to say i'm not in love with this size or these dimensions (words taken from +fire and ice by robert frost) (+the song in shakespeare's the tempest) (+fine, great by modern baseball, probably 15+ for swearing. i'm so glad we can say fuck on the forums ) second: signatures are ok, i guess (+title/theme song (again probably 15+) of the show galavant -- a delightful musical tv show parody of the legends of chivalry and one i highly recommend. signatures seem to be for whatever reason rapidly becoming the "emily likes cancelled shows" canvas size) (i was going to make an infernal affairs graphic but then i saw andy lau's men's style photoshoot and switched gears and i'm not sorry) third: emily loves banners emily DOES love banners (this was a "emily is not allowed to use textures in the base" self-challenge. i hated it but it was probably good practice ) (+my song 5 by HAIM, probably also 15+. i love the thought of witchy arden cho running a mysteriously witchy shop for your assorted wants and needs) (i didn't take inspiration from any particular quote, only the common saying, but that means every time i look at this one my brain tries to simultaneously sing queen's the show must go on and that segment from singin' in the rain -- "the show must go on! come rain, come shine, come snow, come sleet -- the show must go on!") (+la belle dame sans merci by john keats. because does elizabeth olsen not give the most faery-ish vibe in that circlet?) (+teeth in the grass by iron and wine. imaginative of me, i know) (ugh, i made this banner and immediately wanted the fic to go with it. would it not include modern gangs and identity shenanigans? would it not be awesome??) (+lady lazarus (15+??) by sylvia plath. this would either be a fic about dying or about murder, which is a small difference but a significant one) (+don't let me go by raign. this was a "can i fit four people on a banner" challenge and i think i managed it alright the fic for this one is probably a first-wizarding-war era story of love and friends and fighting and?? i want it??)
just.a.willow.tree Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Genuinely CANNOT BELIEVE you've made this many graphics in just over a week! What magic! I am extremely excited about this posting format, and cannot wait for future Graphic Journal posts. I'm particularly excited about the long-term future, maybe a year from now, to go back through your gallery and see what lovely shifts your style has gone through! I very much love your text, always!
BookDinosaur Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 an april update! graphics were made while i procrastinated words. my friend also dragged me into gothic AU victorian RPG fallen london and i blew off steam by making character banners -- (my character) (my friend's characters) and pretty much everything else i made were my beloved banners v_v (for my fic +say goodbye to my heart tonight)
beyond the rain Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Ahhh, so many pretty things! I'm a sucker for good stock use, and you do it so well in so many of your graphics! The smoke and mirrors banner is my fave, along with "they say she's a witch" it's so simplistic and stunning. Can't stop staring at it

toomanycurls Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 These are so amazing!! I like how you work with geometry and lines in these. What's your trick for hair? I was really impressed with how you cut out the curly hair.

What's your trick for hair? I was really impressed with how you cut out the curly hair. thank you!! hair is a tricky one -- usually i do my best to hardcut around it, or to use a light-on-dark/dark-on-light pic so i can do the screen/multiply trick. when the hair is fluffy and the background not so accommodating, i'll take a very fuzzy brush on low opacity and layer mask the background over the hair, and then the hair back onto the background until i'm satisfied with how it looks. it can be hit or miss, but it turned out alright with that one
