The Kiel Cadenza

Fool me once, fool me twice; are you death or paradise?

Summary

It is 1905 and the British-German naval arms race is full steam ahead (pardon the pun). Britain are winning - they are developing a weapon which will transform the race entirely and keep mastery of the seas in British hands. Germany is hunting for a rebuttal - and what better way, what easier way than to steal the Dreadnought plans from under British noses and scupper the ship before she can be built?

The British Ministry of Magic lends its best agent, Albus Dumbledore, to His Majesty's Government to counteract the threat of German magical agents sent from Berlin. His brief is simple: protect the Dreadnought, at all costs.

Germany have their own weapons up their sleeve, but it seems they may not need them when Albus' head is turned by a chance meeting at his former professor's garden party with a student named Gellert Grindelwald, over in England on a year abroad from Heidelberg university.

It's a perfectly charming whirlwind romance - at least, at first.

About

I'm going completely out of my comfort zone with a Spy AU (heavily inspired/coerced/encouraged by @Bunbury and @BookDinosaur who take all blame for whatever this becomes :P) which will also (hopefully!) include all seven of my tropes for @tatapb's Trope Stew Challenge, set around real-life events in the early 1900s. I'm super nervous-excited about it, but it will involve a lot of plotting as it's primarily a romance-mystery type thing, so we'll see how it goes :P

Probably going to be the most self-indulgent thing I've ever written despite the lack of comfort zone :P

***

Luckily, if I get stuck I have a little side-project (or two, but let's pretend it's only one)...

seven sunflowers (and a handful of seeds).

Louis/Scorpius

I've already started writing this - which is a little bit cheating but eh :P - but I've got the vaaaaast majority of it to go and I know where I want it to go and it'll be a nice break from all the intrigue and murder and tortured romance... :rose:

A Spy AU!! I'm so excited! And I love fics that tie in to real-world historical events.

This sounds like an amazing premise, and I love the title. Are you drawing inspiration from any spy stories in particular? Books, movies, etc?

ahahah i approve of the title for your spy au :evilkermit: i'm also here for all bond movie references/inspiration :P

the phrase 'when albus' head is turned' made me giggle and i'm very excited to read this *_*

Honestly this sounds like it should be in your comfort zone. Gellert/Dumbles. Evil plots. Generally dark and shady happenings. ? Regardless, I have the utmost confidence that it's going to turn out great and I am looking forward to it!

This is the story of my life Laura!

Both these projects sound wonderful! I'm delighted that you've been enabled encouraged to tackle an AU. Which of your tropes are you most looking forward to using? Which one seems the most challenging?
