tatapb Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 A SIGHT TOO TRUE THE SCOROSE, SEER TROPE FANFIC I OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T NEED IN MY LIFE Quote "Fate is what you call it when you don't know the name of the person screwing you over." - Lois, Malcolm in the Middle Like his Aunt Daphne, Scorpius Malfoy was born with the ability to tap into the stream of Destiny. Unlike her, however, he doesn't exactly appreciate his gifts - he just wants to be left alone to squander his trust fund and read his damned books in peace and quiet. When Aunt Daph gets drafted to work for the Ministry, Scorpius Malfoy is left in charge of True Sight, her fortune teller shop with strict instructions to not scare all of her clientele away. Is he doing so willingly? Of course not. Is Fate invested that he do it? Absolutely. Could he tell Fate to sod off? Maybe, but there would be consequences that he's unwilling to face. Odds are he'd just end up working at True Sight anyway - except maybe with a few less thumbs. People who claim Karma is a bitch have clearly never met Fate. Telling people that they should stay away from the colour purple because Mercury is in retrograde is one thing. Dealing with Rose Weasley's newly found fascination with her Destiny is another beast entirely. After all, he did spend their entire seven year friendship at Hogwarts hiding his gift from her. Back then there was no "would you read my palm?". Instead, there was a complete and utter contempt for those who claimed to see the future - and Scorpius wasn't stupid enough to tell the girl he fancied anything that might ruin his already inexistent chances with her. Am I in love with this? Damned right I am. Will I be able to write it all in April? Probably not... but I'm going to try anyway. It's supposed to be soulmatey and feel-goodsy and cute and not the maddening slow burn of Witch Slap - though, I mean, it takes them 14 years to get together so it technically is the slowest burn ever... it just gets wrapped up in about 20k-30k words rather than 120k so I hope that my readers will find it in their hearts not to kill me. Questions are lovely, because odds are I haven't thought of them! Also I've been trying to find a name for it and so far all I've got is "A Sight Too True" which I don't necessarily hate but I also don't love because of all the alliteration, so suggestions are super cool!
Darling_take_off_the_mask Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I'm real excited for this; I need it immediately. How will Scorp and Rose differ from their Witch Slap counterparts? Also... titles... titles... hmmm... Set Your Sights A Sight to Behold Seeing Clearly
grumpy cat Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 this sounds really hilarious and amazing and i'm here for it! i currently have no ideas for the title but for some reason this quote from good omens just made me think of your story Quote God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time. just change god with fate omg and this too: Quote The future came and went in the mildly discouraging way that futures do. will this be more humorous or more romance-y or a healthy mix of both?

I'm dying to let it out, it's adorable. Seer Trope Scorp is a quiet fade-into-the-background likesort of fellow. He's dry and he's skeptical BUT he's impeccably decent to people, even the ones he dislikes or doesn't care about - unlike dear old WS Scorp, who couldn't give less of a damn. He's not into Quidditch at all (most of the time he knows what the final score is going to be anyway so why bother)? I've been pondering if he would be a Slytherin anyway (because he's still a selfish bugger) but he's not so "me and mine" as the Scorp in WS. Also his insane love of books and his vision of the world as a set of pre-determined events that WILL happen may default him as a Primary Ravenclaw. He's not a Secondary Ravenclaw though, he mostly rolls with the punches so maybe in this case we have the inverse of WS Scorp, a Primary Ravenclaw and a Secondary Slytherin who feels comfortable with the world and his own skin and spends a lot of his time in his neutral state. In terms of flaws... well, he's a little too laissez-faire when it comes to his future. He's resigned to it, for the most part, and he hasn't actually fought for anything he wants in a while. Seer Trope Rose mostly has her shit together, thank God. She has no insomnia and no anxiety and she didn't sell her soul to St. Mungo's. Like, maybe she doubts herself every once in a while, but it's a fleeting thing, not an all-consuming anxious mess which, honestly, is kind of freeing to write. She's a brave little soul, reckless at times, and she's kind and flirty and all good things. She's very much a Gryffindor and she always trusted her gut above anything else - until a few I'm gonna say years (??) ago when her gut started failing her and causing her all sorts of trouble. So now she's trying to deal with the fact that Fate (aka me) is out to screw her (aka write a fanfiction about it) and wants to turn her life into a chick flick. And like, even if they did try to hate each other like their WS counterparts, they were paired up in EVERY. SINGLE. ASSIGNMENT. EVER, so like, they didn't spend seven years creating a completely wrong mental image of each other. They know what up, instead of being all surprised "oh, my, you're actually a human being and not a complete asshole? What are the oooooodds?". They've also been holding a teeny tiny torch for each other for a few years now, though it's not for a lack of trying. Scorp never actually tried - like the timing was never right and in his case, that's not just a bs excuse. Rose tried a few billion times and eventually moved on... to the longest string of the biggest d-bags you can possibly imagine. I'm still working out some of the kinks, but this question helped a lot, thanks! @grumpy cat Kris Those two quotes are so accurate I can't even. The God one specifically reminded me of a Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic where the Gods are just sitting around on a table toying with mankind. I'm in love with the both of them and I can't get over how ridiculously good the are - well, were. I've actually been diving deep into tv tropes and I've found a mantra of my own, which is a variation of Murphy's law but suggests intent rather than coincidence XD Quote This is Finagle's Law: The perversity of the universe always tends toward a maximum. I'm not entirely sure yet. I mean, I'm going to shoot for the stars and attempt a mix, but y'know, what I think is hilarious might not actually be hilarious. I'm also attempting something really weird and meta with this that might get entirely lost so that might need me to tone down the absurdity. The cuteness is definitely there, though, it's like a million butterflies exploding all over the place. I'm feeling mildly nauseated about it.
Bunbury Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 maria! first of all, i don't think we've been properly introduced (though obviously i have seen you around lots!) -- hey, i'm jane this story idea is so adorable and hilarious, and the opportunities for shenanigans abound! (and in general i'm a sucker for bookish brats frittering away their trust funds, though i know i really shouldn't be.) three questions for now: -- what form or forms of divination will scorp be practicing besides astrology and palmistry? -- who's the most surprising canon character we'll see visiting True Sight, and will they be inquiring about a specific problem? -- can you tell us if scorp's gonna tell rose the truth about her Destiny, or is it too #spoilers?
Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Hi Maria! I'm so excited for this new take on the Rose/Scorpius pairing Would Scorpius rather make faulty predictions that everyone listens to; or make correct predictions that everyone ignores? Does Rose know that Scorpius fancied her while they were in school together, or was she oblivious?
