poppunkpadfoot Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 hello, yes, i am very late to posting a novel nest, but i have finally gotten here, soooooo graphic by me, unfortunately My project for Camp NaNo is a series that I'm in the middle of writing; I just recently posted part 3 of 5. i. Hitting the Ground [ link / song ] ii. Crushed Little Stars [ link / song ] iii. Geyser [ link / song ] (song links are M-rated, just to be safe!) I realize now that I don't actually... have a summary of this series anywhere, oops. So, for those of you who are new here: welcome! I have literally no idea where this whole thing came from. a body from the balcony is the story of a heavily-closeted Sirius Black meeting and falling in love with a Muggle man, whose name is Iain. That's him on the right up there^^. Each installment gets its title from a Mitski song, and they're also heavily inspired by their namesakes in terms of tone and content. Featuring (so far): Chemistry! Tenderness! Self-hatred! Alcoholism! Blood magic! An extremely confused James Potter! Sirius Speaking French! Oh, and did I mention this is all taking place in the heat of the First Wizarding War? Fun times to be had by all. Really though, I've been having a lot of fun writing this series. It's a lot of firsts for me, so it's all been very interesting. I'm not sure I've ever written a proper series before (i.e. a bunch of one-shots in sequential order with a defined plotline); and I've definitely never written a Sirius/OC story before this. In fact, I haven't really written an OC before in general; my OCs are usually purely utilitarian, which actually was what I intended Iain to be as well, but then I tripped and fell and now I have a 5-fic series going on. Uhhhh. Oops? So, as mentioned, I just posted part 3 of 5, meaning I have 2 installments left to go. They are as follows: iv. I Bet On Losing Dogs [ song ] (Iain-POV (?!?! terrifying)) v. A Body From the Balcony Yes... I, having never written a proper OC before this, have decided to go all in and just... write a whole installment from his POV. I am... very overwhelmed, I don't know where to start, and I am Terrified. However, I am also a Gryffindor ( ) and therefore Stubborn. Iain-POV will happen if it is the last thing I do. Please note that I am taking suggestions from people who've been reading the series about what they would actually like to see in this installment, in terms of backstory and moments from the rest of the series, and just stuff in general. Please hmu if you have thoughts! I probably won't get to v. A Body From the Balcony this month (although... never say never, I guess?), but rest assured that yes I do have a plan, yes it is dastardly, and yes you are all going to absolutely hate me. So... now that I've given you all this rather long-winded explanation... My Camp NaNo goal this year is to write 5,000 words of Iain-verse. Ideally I finish iv. I Bet On Losing Dogs, but if I don't, I don't. I have a lot going on irl right now and I'm honestly not anticipating being able to get much writing in this month. Maybe I'll surprise myself and end up blasting through this goal, though. We shall see! That's all, I guess! Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions (or helpful resources for writing OCs)! ...... Oh yeah, and I have a +Pinterest board (M-rated). TTFN!
Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Hi Kayla! I'm here to say that I believe in you and I know your Gryffindor stubbornness and courage will see you through This may not be of use to you, but one thing that helps me develop OCs is to ask myself questions about the character that will probably never wind up in the story itself. The process makes them more real to me, and then I find it easier to write them in the story. Things like what's his favorite food? What's his pet peeve? What's his favorite book, movie, food, etc? Does he have any siblings? Does he talk to his parents? Did he hate going to school? And if you want to go deeper; what does he want more than anything? What lies does he tell himself? I'm really excited to see you take this story and let it grow like this!
