magemadi Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Springtime Writing Event It is springtime for the Northern Hemisphere right now, and to ring in the warming weather and longer, sunshine-filled days, the Prefects have chosen to entice you to join in our celebrations of the spring season! This writing event is going to be run differently to those in the past, but don't worry -- this is meant to be low stress for everyone. So, what are we tasking you to submit for our springtime celebrations? It's simple: Write a drabble in 100 words (or less) about the springtime! This can be your own personal feelings about spring, or a character's, or even a little scene of someone enjoying (or not) the spring weather. Now, rather than posting this directly to the archive, we are going to change the way these entries will be judged compared to typical staff/prefect-run writing events! Instead, everyone will submit theirs through a Google Form, and then voting will be opened up to members across the site with no usernames attached. The winners will be chosen by democratic vote, and a small number of House Cup points awarded for entrants and Top Three placements. Furthermore, as this event is being run by @MadiMalfoy and @down-in-flames only, all other staffers and prefects are more than welcome to enter! For more clarity on the instructions, read the rules below: Rules: Entries must be 100 words or less (10% leeway according to archive word counts, so maximum 110 words) All entries must be submitted through the Google Form+ ONLY Members can submit multiple entries (maximum of three (3) per member) Accepted Fandoms are Harry Potter or Original Fiction ONLY Entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm PDT on May 31st Prizes: Each entry will receive 5 House Cup Points Third Place will receive 30 House Cup Points Second Place will receive 50 House Cup Points First Place will receive 70 House Cup Points This writing event will run May 1st through May 31st, with submissions open until 11:59 pm PDT on May 31st. Voting will be open for 1 week, June 1st - June 7th 11:59 pm PDT. If you have more questions, please tag either @down-in-flames or @MadiMalfoy in your post with the question, or DM either one of us.
just.a.willow.tree Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 @down-in-flames @MadiMalfoy I have a question about the word counts! You mentioned there's a leeway of 10% due to the strange archive WCs, but we aren't submitting to the archives, right? But should we make sure that our word counts are under 110 according to the archive anyway? Or can it just be under 110 in whichever word processor we use? (I'm really sorry if I'm way overcomplicating things!) Thank you guys!

If you typically use the archives or google docs or microsoft word, it's all the same as long as it's under 110 words.
Predictable Chaos Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 I'm putting in my offical complaint of a drabble being defined as 100 words. I'm not sure who, in the history of writing, decided a drabble was only 100 words but it's driving me crazy. However, I love the idea of voting anonymously.
Predictable Chaos Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 okay, maybe a stupid question, but there's no space on the form for a title. If we post it with our drabble, will it be part of the word count?

If we post it with our drabble, will it be part of the word count? We don’t need titles at all — the content members will vote on will simply be the drabbles themselves. Titles can be used later if you want to post yours to the archives after the event is over.
Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 @magemadi @down-in-flames Uh...I made a mistake in one of the drabbles I just submitted. May I resubmit using the google form please? If so, how should I mark it as the resubmission?
