magemadi Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 June Story of the Month Nominations How it works: This thread is for you to nominate your favorite stories to be recognized as the HPFT Story of the Month. Archer Rose Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Title: As the lights go out Author: @something wicked Link to Story: click Warnings [if applicable]: self harm, sexual content, slurs, substance abuse Reason for Nomination: This fic is such a beautifully worked descriptive story, i love how deni contrasts the night/day aspect of her fic. her main character is complex, interesting and likable. I love following erin's journey as she goes through her 20s, this story has such a wonderful narrative that deni has crafted! check this story out if you haven't already!
ImaRavenclaw Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 @MadiMalfoy Hey Madi! Just to be clear, what is meant by no NC-17 stories? Are we still allowed to nominate Mature stories as long as they're not violent or sexually explicit, or is it teen/general audiences stories only. This is a little vague. Thanks

No NC-17 stories basically means no nominating something that wouldn’t be allowed on the archives. This was a rule that carried over from when we didn't use to have our own archive, and fics could be nominated from AO3, FFN, and the like, that had higher ratings like that. As we have now switched to nominating stories exclusively from the HPFT archive, this rule becomes negligible. Fics with violence and explicit sexual content that are posted on the HPFT archives are all completely eligible to be nominated for SOTM. Going forward we'll remove that carryover rule as it no longer applies.
abhorsen. Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Title: let's keep it casual Author: @down-in-flames Link to Story: +here Reason for Nomination: taylor is a genius and this had me in fucking stitches, +10000, 9.9(+.1)/10 highly recommend (i overuse that joke, i'm semi-sorry)
Darling_take_off_the_mask Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Title: a sister no more Author: @lebensmude Link to Story: Here+ Warnings [if applicable]: None Reason for Nomination: Petunia is a character we all love to hate for how she and Vernon treated Harry, but once in a great while in canon we see a flicker of something else in her. Greis picks up with that and runs with it, writing about Petunia's reactions in the moments and then days immediately following Harry turning up on her doorstep. But what I really love about it is the difference in her reaction and Vernon's. I always wondered whether Petunia was just leading a life of quiet desperation, screaming on the inside, and this story highlights a huge disparity in her capacity for love and empathy vs her husband's.
victoria_anne Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Title: Dreams and Dragons Author: @mymischiefmanaged Link to Story: HPFT+ Warnings: Self-harm Reason for Nomination: Written in dream journal entries, Emma weaves this beautiful narrative of loss and healing that will keep you hooked until the end. It's sad but sweet, with a hopeful ending. I really loved it.
ImaRavenclaw Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Title: Three Snakes Author: @mymischiefmanaged Link to Story: Here+ (mature) Warnings: Domestic Abuse, Sexual Content, Substance Abuse Reason for Nomination: Emma writes inclusive characters who wonderfully attack the senses. All that I could think (let's be real, shout and scream) when I finished this onehshot was "why isn't there more?" The storyline is perfectly constructed and 1/3 of the story is reserved for each character, which I love.
