TreacleTart Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Challenge Name: The Ultimate Poetry Collection Challenge Challenge Deadline: August 1st, 2020 Fandoms Accepted: Poetry Challenge Details: When I want to challenge myself as a writer, I often will pick a random poem form and a theme. I find poetry really helps me focus on description and using words economically, which in turn helps my stories...so now I'm challenging you to work on some poetry too! Write a poetry collection with 10 different poems. The themes of the poems are up to you! Whatever inspires you is fine. However, you must include the following forms (in any order): Cinquain Haiku Vilanelle Rondeau Freeverse Sonnet (Either Shakespearean or Petrarchan...your choice ) Ode (can be to a person, place or thing) 3 poem styles of your choice, not to include the styles already listed in the challenge. Each of the three must be different. Here (A) is a link to Writer's Digest's list of 100 Poetic Forms. Please, let me know in your author's notes which styles you've chosen. How I Will Judge This: I will be leaving a short review on every single poem/chapter and a larger review at the end that will give you a review on the collection as a whole complete with judging criteria. Rewards: 1st: 6 Reviews, an award graphic, and a link in my bio 2nd: 4 reviews, an award graphic, and a link in my bio 3rd: 2 reviews, an award graphic, and a link in my bio HM; 1 review, an award graphic *all participants will get a participant graphic as well as a review on each poem in their collection. Rules: 1. Your collection must be 10 chapters and include a cinquain, haiku, vilanelle, rondeau, freeverse, sonnet, ode, and 3 different poem styles of your choosing. The themes are your choice. 2. You must have "For TreacleTart's Ultimate Poetry Collection Challenge" in your story shell. No exceptions. 3. You may post the poems for this challenge in an already existing poetry collection if you have one...however, the 10 for this challenge must be in 10 consecutive chapters and you must make a note in the chapter descriptions, so I know which ones are for the challenge. 4. You may not use pre-written poems from this site or others. The goal is to challenge yourself to write new poems. 5. All poems must follow site TOS and archive rules 6. Multiple entries are welcome, but each collection entry must be 100% complete before you can submit a second collection.

The following is the guidelines of acceptable word lengths (as found here+): For shorter poem forms, like the haiku, should we then write multiple verses/stanzas? Or write multiple poems of the same form (related or unrelated themes) within the specified published chapter? Both? Thanks! Either option is good with me! Either combining a couple of short forms into one chapter or writing a multi-verse Haiku (or other form) poem.
Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 I come with a link to my entry (pending validation): dance a roundelay
Guest Noelle Zingarella Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Thank you for hosting this challenge. Unfortunately I have to bow out of it.
Chelts-rhj Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Is it one theme for all poems? Or can each poem have a different theme?
singmetothesun Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 @TreacleTart does a mirror cinquain count for cinquain?

Pixileanin Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I did one. Here's mine: Little Things: A Poetry Collection I also did a collection of poetry from my teen years right after the first 10, but I don't think they count, since they aren't "new". It's called Early Blithering, and will appear under the same link as chapters 11-20. For anyone's amusement.
TreacleTart Posted August 11, 2020 Author Posted August 11, 2020 Thank you to everyone who participated! I'm hoping to have this judged in the next week or two.
