Well hello there!

I'm Maia, in my mid-twenties from the UK.

How long have I been writing?

I've been writing fanfiction on and off since I was thirteen over on ff.net. I spent my late teens and early twenties being told that I was a scientist who shouldn't waste their time writing, so I didn't. But the urge to write has always been there. I got into writing fanfic again just under four years ago after getting back into fandom through Cursed Child in London. I know the cannon of that play is a contentious issue but it's fully ignited my creativity and sprung into my life at a time I really needed it, so I'm incredibly grateful.

  Why am I here?

I'm super excited to be here to read some amazing writing and try to have my writing read those heady heights. I'm here because I met the lovely @Ineke through Cursed Child and was drawn to the amazing community over here. I want to be a cheerleader to every writer and learn to be a really good writer.

   What do I write?

For now, I write HP fanfic and mostly next-gen stuff but I'm here to challenge myself and step out of my little box. I have some OF ideas that have just started springing onto paper and I'm partial to a bit of playwriting when the mood hits me. I'm particularly excited to edit and share the playwriting actually.

I write a lot of LGBTQIA stuff. I genuinely have characters come out accidentally, of their own accord, mid-fic.

I love Albus Severus Potter.

   My current WIP!!!

The Sacred Twenty-Eight is my absolute baby about the Ravenclaw protagonist of my dreams, pure-blood politics, the press being absolute trash and learning about Albus through James Sirius's eyes. I want this to be a really good fic and am aware it will need constant re-working, so please do take a look.

The Sacred Twenty-Eight+

Other things I have on the internet!

My first decent Scorbus coming-out fic is over on AO3. It has potential but needs a lot of work before I repost here. Once I've finished my current challenge fic, this will be a priority but if you'd like to check that out now, it's on AO3, along with sequels:

In which Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Potter come out+ (M)

My AO3+ (M) is a real Scrobus-fest in general

What do I want to chat about here?

Your fics, my fics, Albus Severus Potter, being a Ravenclaw, queer issues. I'm here to learn and share, so ask me anything or just comment!

Hi Maia, I'm Bex!! Got a few questions for you:

1. I have read the odd scorbus fic, but I've never actively sought them out. What makes them such a good pairing?

2. What has been the biggest challenge in writing the Sacred Twenty-Eight?

3. You mentioned you enjoy writing scripts!! Are they FF or OF can you trll me more about them?

4. What's the best thing about writing, and where do you think you excel the most?

I'm veeery interested by your fic, The Sacred Twenty-Eight. I'll be checking it out soon!!

Hi Bex,

Thank you for the questions!

1. I've been reading Scorbus pretty much from the publication of DH, so it's been a long held love for me. I think I love them so much because CC compliant, or not (I love both), they're always such different people who compliment each other. They love each other as an old married couple who just shine together. They both have completely different traumas they're working through as well, which is challenging to write properly so even if it's just a quick coming out fic, you have to take into account that it's complicated. There's also the aspect of exploring adult Harry and Draco through them, as parents who are absolutely flawed but trying their best in brilliantly different ways. Next-gen has so much space to fill, it's wonderful! I also feel like even if I'm reading a fic with a sketchy plot, they're two adorable boys in love so I'm still enjoying myself.

2. I think it's challenging for me because there's a lot going on. I'm not used to having several interweaving plots and trying to make them merge seamlessly into each other. I'm also trying to write it so that the mystery of the situation is revealed slowly to the reader so they should be a bit confused by things, but not to the point where they're not following- I think that's where I've learned to carefully plan my chapters! The world I'm trying to create is like our press right now (with all the gaslighting) but without the existence of the internet so comparing and verifying anything is almost impossible. That's quite hard to write and make sure I let go of the rope in the right amount each chapter. Also OCs omg. So many OCs.

3. Scripts are all OC. I've never actually thought of writing scripts as FF but that could be good for my technique, what an idea. I have some scenes written of my play idea that I've made complicated for myself (of course). It's essentially a fandom seen from the POV of the fangirls and the objects of that fandom but they're in reverse timelines (a bit like The Last Five Years but without the audience knowing whats happened to make the situation like that). The crux is that something's happened that you learn about in abstract ways and find out when they meet in the middle at the end of the play. I've been on a few playwriting courses and am planning to do one over the next few weeks to really get myself into gear for that. I'm also a big fan of monologues. I usually write those in fits of rages and one day they'll make up one big, anxiety inducing play.

4. So here's the most Ravenclaw thing I've every written in my life: My favourite part about writing is organising thoughts into a logical order so that other people can understand them. Not that I struggle to speak eloquently, I just think there's something amazing about the power to draft and perfect writing that makes it such a unique medium. I think I'm quite good at characterisation through dialogue, probably something to do with the amount of theatre I watch!

Thanks again for the questions!

It’s so good to see you pursing your love of writing! I love the sound of The Sacred Twenty Eight, I can’t wait to read it ☺️ And I’m looking forward to hearing more about your writing journey ?

Thank you so much! I'm super excited to be here and share a fic that's been brewing in my head for years!

These past few weeks have been monumentally different for me and I've been exhausted with all the BLM stuff, which resulted in more of my family coming out as racists. There's been a death in my family. The trans crap with JKR has shown me that a lot of people lean on me for queer information no matter my personal experiences.

Anyway I feel called to action to write about these things. Lots more black characters experiencing things as black people and maybe OF on this, as the wizarding world is limiting. We'll see...

Article based on the prologue of In Which Scorpius Malfoy and Albus potter come out for Sandcastles

The Malfoy's at the World Cup

We’re a few miles North of the beautiful coast of Marseille and the sun has been beating down on us for the past few weeks. The conditions have been glorious for players and spectators alike. With England and Egypt taking the top spots and making it to the final, fans from both countries have been flocking to the area, scrambling for last minute tickets or simply coming to enjoy the atmosphere.

Yesterday evening, I was delighted to stumble upon two unexpected guests at England’s pre-final press party. Dashing as ever, the recently demystified Draco Malfoy entered the room with son, Scorpius, 15, in tow. Scorpius seems to be growing into himself nicely and spent a good part of the evening away from his father, socialising with several of the first team players.

However the evening seemed to take a dramatic turn when Scorpius, for unknown reasons, stormed towards the exit of the party, followed by an alarmed Draco at around 11:30pm. I was able to follow the pair out of the room without being noticed and trail them for some time. Unfortunately, Scorpius did not seem to be particularly open about his sudden exit from the room, claiming to be “really tired” and that there was “nothing to worry about, dad”.

Draco’s concern was touching and they shared a loving hug outside the entrance to their tent. Draco then assured Scorpius that he would be there for him whenever he was ready to talk. This heartwarming moment ended with Scorpius being dismissed to bed and Draco returning to the front of their tent around 10 minutes later with a steaming cup of tea and book in hand.
