1917farmgirl
Hello. Are you secretly (or openly) addicted to Sci-fi shows/movies? Do you have model spaceships hidden in your drawers, tacky Hawaiian shirts and browncoats stuffed in the back of closets? Can you write your blog-posts in Klingon if you need to? Do you go fangirl/guy over anything with a "star" in the title? If so, then this is the club for you. No, this will not help cure your addiction. There will be no twelve step program offered here. (Though you might end up with twelve new shows to add to your To-Watch List.) But, if you LOVE all things Sci-Fi, step on up and join! Just post here, and take the club oath. Then feel free to brag about your membership on your About Me Page, in signatures, where ever you want! Oath: I ____(insert name here)_____, solemnly swear by my pretty floral bonnet that undomesticated equines will never drag me away from my love of science fiction. I further promise to live long and prosper while spreading the love of sci-fi to all galaxies, regardless of whether they look like Canada or not. I know that it's never easy, but resistance is futile and with the Force I will make it so. Allons-y! ***** Hi, I'm Farmgirl and I'm a Harperchondriac, Browncoat, and a Space Monkey. I'm addicted to Sci-Fi shows. My indulgences of choice are: Star Trek TNG, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Andromeda, Firefly, and Charmed. I Farmgirl, solemnly swear by my pretty floral bonnet that undomesticated equines will never drag me away from my love of science fiction. I will sit and marathon an entire season of SG-1 in one sitting and make it through all the Star Wars parodies in a matter of days. I grew up with Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager, Stargate, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 21st Century, Babylon 5, Andromeda, Firefly, The X-Files, Knight Rider, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone.... Tooo long to list possibly.
scooterbug8515
*does vulcan salute in solidarity to the oath* Com-tira! I am Carrie/scooterbug/Marshal (take your pick of name) I have grown up on scifi. I was the child wondering why Geordy Laforge and Reading Rainbow dude were practically the same. Riker and Picard were my child hood heroes and then Captain Katherine Janeway was my role model in middle school. I wanted to be just like her! Of Star Trek is not my only love Star Wars is fairly big for me. I love Firefly/Sernity and wish there was more. I know Babylon 5 well as the characters are just guh! I love scifi and G'Kar sums up my feelings well: Now to take a chance to list some slightly obscure Scifi and see if I've lost people or not what I list will be of varying popularity. Eureka Heroes 7 Days Warehouse 13 Jake 2.0 Quantum Leap Please tell me I'm not alone in my love of those! I want to own Eureka it was amazing I've not watched it all but I loved it - it was so much fun. I didn't watch enough Warehouse 13 but I liked what I saw and I know it correlated some with Eureka and that was awesome! Heroes I haven't seen the Rebirth all the way through but I own the 4 season and I loved it to pieces and hate how the writer's strike broke it. If that hadn't happened the show would have been so much more! 7 Days was so much fun and I loved it and I want to go back and watch it again. That was middle school for me too! It was epic watching the hero go back 7 days to stop tragedy it was epic! Jake 2.0 didn't last as long but it was awesome! It was on at about the same time as 7 Days. It was guy with nano tech in him and made him super smart and strong it was super cool too but I don't remember much but I liked it. Quantum Leap, that is an old school classic and how can you not like it. I never faithfully watched it but I've seen it on re-run and I always have fun watching the episodes when they are on. Either way if I've lost ya'll on my obscure train....
Stella Blue
AAAAAH. Farmgirl, that oath is basically the best thing I have ever read. Also, until just now I had completely forgotten about the 'undomesticated equines' - hahaha everything Teal'c says is glorious. *Steps up to take my oath* I, Stella Blue, solemnly swear by my pretty floral bonnet that undomesticated equines will never drag me away from my love of science fiction. I further promise to live long and prosper while spreading the love of sci-fi to all galaxies, regardless of whether they look like Canada or not. I know that it's never easy, but resistance is futile and with the Force I will make it so. Allons-y! My most beloved sci-fi fandoms include Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Firefly, Star Wars, The X-Files, and Doctor Who. (I wish we could all hang out and watch sci fi together in RL.) 1917farmgirl
Yeah! The club is growing! Welcome everyone! Hanging out and watching Sci-Fi would be the best thing ever. Carrie - I've heard of everything on your list except 7 Days. I haven't watched much of it, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like it. It just means my TV hours are very limited. Eureka and Warehouse 13 ARE on my list to catch up with when I get the chance. Oh, and Geordi LaForge was my hero growing up. Dang, we really need a banner or something to put on our about me pages for this club. Too bad my skills with graphics only extend to crayons and glue. WindingArrow
Hmm... I am not the best graphics maker, but I do make my own. I could try to come up with something. I can't believe I left out Quantum Leap, but as stated, there probably isn't enough room for my list, hahaha! I wish I'd had the Sci-Fi channel growing up- it could be SO MUCH BIGGER. By the way, thank you Farmgirl for setting this club up! *Spaceballs Salute*
scooterbug8515
I didn't have Scifi channel growing up I didn't have it till I was 16. 7 Days and Jake 2.0 were aired on a now defunct network that used to be know and UPN. Only things that were on scifi channel and they didn't come out till I was in High school was Eureka and Warehouse 13. All this talk is making want to go watch an geek out to a bunch of these shows. However I'm not far off on that as I am watching Doctor Who right now. I just finished "The Next Doctor".
WindingArrow
See, if my dad didn't like it, we didn't watch it. The only show I know of on UPN that we watched (for sure because my memory is bad at the moment) was Star Trek Voyager. He probably WOULD have liked those shows, buuut.... When things started coming out on DVD and video, he found that he did not like commercials.
TidalDragon
-takes oath- So, obviously I'm a big sci-fi fan or I wouldn't be here. My favorites that have already been mentioned are Battlestar Galactica (the reboot), Eureka, Firefly/Serenity, and Outer Limits (the reboot). To the extent it qualifies, I'm also a big fan of The X-Files. If Carrie's plug wasn't enough, I will also lend lengthier support to Eureka. I love Eureka. I don't know how many times I've watched it all the way through now, but it's both interesting sci-fi and also hilarious. My only beef with it was not being a fan at all of Carter/Allison, but the show was amazing despite it. I will also plug the Outer Limits reboot from the mid-90s to early-00s. I was bummed they got less inventive with the opening and closing lines as the series wore on, I loved the episodes and it was so cool the way they used different actors and stuff from other places in individual episodes too. Finally, adding my own more obscure stuff, though these are more sort of supernatural in a way, I was a big fan of The Dead Zone with Anthony Michael Hall that aired on USA and have all but the last season of that on boxed sets. It's obviously based on the book by Stephen King, but I really enjoyed it. And also Alphas. A much-too-short-lived series basically about mutants, but totally awesome IMO. This is an exciting club - thanks for starting it Jill!
Alexis Black
I, Alexis Black, solemnly swear that I'm up to ... no, wait a minute. Got that wrong. Oh, here it is ... I swear by my pretty floral bonnet that undomesticated equines - Why equines? Why not Thestrals? They're cooler. Can we at least agree on Tauntauns? What was that? Oh, the oath, okay. I swear that wild critters (regardless of dubious origins) will never drag me away from my love of science fiction. Unless it's for fantasy. I mean, Thranduil? Blackwall? Severus? Fantasy rocks, just saying, even if there is an occasional Blight or Dragon. I further promise to live long and prosper while spreading the love of sci-fi to all galaxies, regardless of whether they look like Canada or not. I know that it's never easy, but resistance is futile and with the Force I will make it so. So say we all!
WindingArrow
Alexis, that oath brought a tear to my eye! *sniff* EDIT! Okay, literally just made this and I'm really tired so it's okay if you don't like it... Anyway, was sort of going for an old-school 90's feel here and what I want to do is edit in your favorite space craft in if you would like. Let me know! melian
I have been watching this group with interest but wasn't sure if I was sci-fi-y enough to join. But then I had a chat with Farmgirl and she made me feel much better about my geek qualifications. So, now I'm finally looking at this site from a computer rather than a phone I can join up. My sci-fi interests are pretty mainstream, possibly because a number of the shows listed above have never to my knowledge been shown on tv here. (No sci-fi channel, sorry!) But I love Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and a few of the others. And I'm willing to be introduced to more. Oath: I, melian, solemnly swear by my pretty floral bonnet that undomesticated equines will never drag me away from my love of science fiction. I further promise to live long and prosper while spreading the love of sci-fi to all galaxies, regardless of whether they look like Canada or not. 1917farmgirl
Yeah! Welcome Mel! And of course you are Sci-fi-y enough! I LOVE the banner! So much! You rock!
WindingArrow
Is there such a thing as NOT being sci-fi-y enough? Yay! So, to anyone who might want to use the banner, let me know your favorite sci-fi ship/device (for those who want a Stargate, lol) and I will edit it in! I use Tinypic, so there's no need to re-host if you don't want to. (Feel free to PM me.) So, despite being a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, I got to stick it to my brother (who has always dogged the Trek) when I got a magazine called Geek Out which had detailed listings of the top 30 fandoms in the nerdiverse and they listed Star Wars SECOND to Star Trek (which was, of course, Number One!). I was so excited. He was not amused.
LooneyLizzie
I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS CLUB. Jill told me to join days ago, but I was a loser and put it off. Shame on me! Of course, if I'm going to take this oath seriously, I've got to do it right. So.... I, Lizzie, that from my love of science fiction. I further promise to while spreading the love of sci-fi to all galaxies, regardless of whether they look like Canada or not. I know that but and I will to (#sorrynotsorry) Liz - Uhhh... YES PLEASE! I want a Stargate on it!! I literally grew up with Stargate - like, the movie came out a few months after I was born. The Male Parental Unit, being the amazingly geeky person that he is, was really into it while I was little, which led to traditions like our family sitting down and watching "Window of Opportunity" every groundhog's day. ;D So, to me, Stargate SG-1 and SGA are the epitome of Sci-Fi. It was my first introduction into the genre, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Star Trek and Star Wars have, of course, always been a favorite. Unfortunately I haven't seen as much Star Trek as I'd like to (But can you blame me? There's 5 series, with a sixth on the way and 13 movies!)...but one day I'll have watched everything. One day... Speaking of Star Trek -- has anyone seen Galaxy Quest? Because... it's HILARIOUS. Firefly/Serenity is another favorite (I just like to ignore the latter half of the movie though. Y'know... after...), and Jill totally got me hooked on Andromeda recently. Eureka is AMAZING! That show never fails to make me laugh. I LOVED Jack. And Allison (although my thoughts on them as a couple is...different). Oh, and let's not forget Doctor Who... I'm so far behind on that... gotta catchup pretty soon. Maybe once I'm done with Andromeda... And CSI:NY (DARN IT JILL!! STOP GETTING ME HOOKED ON TV SHOWS!) Okay, it's late. I'm done now. I had to spend an awfully long time making some of those GIFs, FYI. People just don't appreciate Sci-Fi these days...
Alexis Black
And so the Queen of Gifs has arrived ...
WindingArrow
*tackles Lizzie and her gifs* I LOVE GALAXY QUEST! I had to introduce my husband to many of these fandoms. (Okay, let's face it, I had to introduce him to everything EXCEPT Star Wars.) After he binge-watched TOS, DS9, and all the TOS movies, and then we binge-watched all the TNG movies, we sat down for some good-old-fashioned parody/humor sci-fi with Spaceballs, Galaxy Quest, and Family Guy's Star Wars trilogy. [img=http://i67.tinypic.com/30c3bl2.jpg] [img=http://i65.tinypic.com/xdw7s6.jpg] I made two Stargate banners. Let me know if you want me to change one or make a new one! 1917farmgirl
Your GIFs are amazing, Lizzie! Welcome to our group! Make yourself at home. And I have no guilt whatsoever for getting you addicted to those shows. Now, I'm really torn. I absolutely love those Stargate banners, but I also really want one with the Andromeda or Eureka Maru on it... Choices, choices, choices...
LooneyLizzie
GAAH! THOSE BANNERS ARE SO PERFECT!! Thank you Liz!! Deciding which one I'm going to steal is going to be impossible. Perhaps I'll steal both and switch them out occasionally. Now I want to watch Stargate.
