THE SHIPWRECK BEACH

Welcome to the Shipwreck Beach, the best beach on Atlantis for the sand castle enthusiast!

This competition of the Wizarding Universiade consists of building a magical sand castle. Below you will find a number of different castle features that you can sculpt with magic, all of them adding game points to your castle. There is no limit on how many features you can add to your castle, but to meet the competition minimum you will have to sculpt at least a moat and outer walls.

sand castle features:

  • moat - respond to 3 forum threads (any outside of your common rooms) - 5 game points
  • outer walls - respond to 5 reviews (responses should be unique (not 100% identical), ie please don't respond to all reviews with just 'thanks!'). please include that the response is for the sand castle game - 5 game points
  • inner walls - create a picspam for a specific scene or chapter from the hp books (let us know which one) - 5 game points
  • outer tower - leave a review on any story (reviews must be a minimum of 500 characters, largely related to the fic) - 5 game points
  • inner tower - post a fic rec - 5 game points
  • great hall - post 6 questions in an author's novel nest, specific to their julno project(s) - 5 game points
  • gatehouse with a drawbridge - create a 600x800px poster for your university - 15 game points
  • inner defenses - write a drabble (100 - 200 words) centered around one of the seven deadly sins (pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, sloth) - 15 game points
  • bailey - write a song (an anthem) for your university (no length requirement) - 15 game points
  • military living quarters - write a rec blurb for a story that hpft can post on tumblr (blurb must be a minimum of 200 characters, largely related to the fic) - 15 game points
  • dungeon - post a headcanon about another author’s story or character(s) or sort one of their characters in their writer’s journal (+sortinghatchats | +posted sortings) - 15 game points
  • water well - write a newspaper article about one of your characters and post it either in your writer’s journal, as a blog post or on the archives (minimum of 200 words) - 15 game points
  • keep - record a podfic (if you want to podfic another author’s story, you will need to ask for permission from the author first). we will accept podfics based on when they were sent to the muggle liaison email - 25 game points
  • smithy - write a story about one of these: magical secret societies | failed execution | crime syndicate | wandlore (minimum of 500 words) - 25 game points
  • stables - generate a prompt from +inspirobot (m) and write a 350-500 word story inspired by it (post the prompt when posting the link to the story) - 25 game points

rules and points:

  • each castle feature is worth a number of game points. to add a feature to your castle, you will need to complete a task associated with that feature. by adding features to your castle, you win game points.
  • to sculpt your castle, please use submission threads in your common rooms.
  • the minimum number of features that you need to add is a moat and outer walls.
  • there is no maximum number of features that you can add and the same feature can be added multiple times (for example, your castle can have a moat, outer walls, 4 outer towers and 8 wells)
  • when the competition ends, game points will be tallied and universities will be awarded house cup placement points (300 - 225 - 150 - 75)

schedule:

  • competition in magical sand castle building will last june 26, 00:01 am gmt - june 29, 11:59 pm gmt

This is one sand castle as a house? So as long as at least 3 forum thread posts and 5 review responses are done by someone in the house we’re good and then just do as many other things as we want from there, collectively?

Hi there! Just wanted to ask about drabbles + other mini-writing tasks -- do they have to be posted on the archives, or do we just post them with our submission post?

Quick question from me: Do the writing submissions have to be stand alone, or can I group more than one as a short story collection?

Entries as chapters within a short story collection is perfectly fine

Another quick question -- can the stories be outside of HP/OF?

Would it be okay if we posted different drabbles in the same chapter? Or different articles in the same blog post? (While making sure that we still indicate which one's which in our submissions?) I just don't wanna clutter things up too much. :P

If we are to write story blurbs: 1. Do we need authors permission? 2. Where should they be posted too? Like blog post or submitted directly to the tumblr?

Many thanks!

you can submit them in the submission thread with a link to the story and the ml team will post it on our account :) this is similar to a fic rec so i don't think you need a permission from the author

just one clarification: the same castle feature can be added multiple times, including the moat and outer walls ^_^

due to the archive having this pesky feature ( :P ) of counting words a little higher than most text editors we'll accept writing submissions that go over the maximum wordcount by 50 words.

Can the review serve multiple purposes? Aka like review swap and outer tower review, or must it be solely for outer tower reasons

if one already happens to have a wip on the archive about a crime syndicate, would a new chapter to said wip be acceptable as a submission for smithy or does it need to be a separate story on its own?

yes, that is okay so long as the crime syndicate is relevant to the new chapter

Is 500 words the maximum for the Inspirobot inspired story?

yes, though the archive has a tendency towards counting words a bit higher than most text editors so we will accept submissions up to 550 words for this task :)

Cam the drabble for inner defences be prose poetry or does it have to be proper prose? ^_^
