queenonyx Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 i don't know about this yes because i am in the prepping stage and i just got a polyamory prompt from Prof. Mcgonagall.
VaguelyCreativeName Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 I know it's super early still, but I was wondering if you could tell us any more about this, because it sounds super interesting!! Have you planned yet which other characters you're going to involve? Or when in McGonnagall's life the story is set? I feel like there's so much we don't know about her youth that you could totally fit that in during that time, but at the same time I think it would be super cool if you set it during her 'proper adult' years, maybe even during her time as a Professor? Also, I see you've already got a title figured out, could you tell us about its significance, or is that too spoilery? In any case, I'm super excited about this story!! Good Luck with JulNo!
magemadi Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Hey there, and welcome to HPFT!! I’m glad to see you are participating in Camp JulNo! It’s a wonderful time that mirrors NaNoWriMo in the fall with a teensy bit less pressure since it’s all self-set, goal-wise. What goals do you have with this fic? The prompt seems very interesting for sure and polyamory relationships offer a variety of things you can do with them. I hope your JulNo journey goes well!!
nott theodore Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Hi! Welcome to HPFT and Gryffindor (I'm probably late saying that but still :P) I thought I'd stop by with some encouragement! 1. You're in the planning stage for this story - how much planning do you tend to do before starting to write? 2. What shape does your planning normally take? Does it vary for different stories? 3. (Can you tell that I'm terrible at planning and fascinated by how other people do it?) 4. How long do you expect this story to be? Is it going to be a one-shot, a short story, something longer? Best of luck with your planning and writing when you begin!
Archer Rose Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 I just wanted to come by express how totally gryffindor your novel nest is, i admire that gryffindor spirit because it's honestly the best that you're just kinda free styling it without too many details, i feel like this novel nest is very mysterious and makes me super interested in this project. polyamory is a cool prompt, i think there is a lot that can be done with it and i'm hoping that we'll be getting some updates about this piece because my interest is peaked honestly!!

First, I wish to apologize because when I did this I was exhausted and really did not not check my post before submitting it. To further clarify, my polyamory idea has been taken down to a Dramione fic as I don't know whether I can pull off a wholesome polyamory fic yet. Blanche aka Professor McGonagall (Blanche) on the discord and one other person really helped me put things together. This is not supposed to be a Professor McGonagall story I was pointing out who had helped me work on the idea. Also I am changing the title of the novel nest because Good Life was just a place holder name until I found something better. The fic's title is actually going to be Simmering Cauldron and no I really can't say more than it is going to be a slow burn enemies to lovers Dramione with a redemptive arc. Immensely sorry for any confusion. @VaguelyCreativeName

My goals for this fic are: Providing Draco with a redemption arc. Proving that you may think your one thing but when you find out that your whole life has been a lie and that you belong in this world. Taking a certain bookworms activism to a new level. Healing from Ron’s death. And so much more. I don’t know if this is what you meant by goals but I took it as where I want to go with this particular fic. Like I explained above I feel I am more geared to writing a Dramione fic right now. Though I am getting ideas for a fic with a Sirius Black and OC pairing. @magemadi

Best of luck with your planning and writing when you begin! @nott theodore It is never too late to be welcoming! I plan to do a lot of preparing for this fic because I want to do this right. I have always felt like I had a lot to prove to certain people in my family now I just need to prove that I can do this for myself. Draco is a very complex character and I want to do him justice.. I am really kind of focused on a redemption arc for him where he can be his own person and has kicked Lucius Malfoy out of Malfoy Industries. He has his own internal conflict in his own mind. Can he be his own person? Can he run MI by himself? Can he make up for his past mistakes? Will Hermione ever forgive him and is he worthy of being with her? These are the questions that I want to plan the fic around for him. For Hermione, she too is very complex to me because she has both intellect and heart for the things she does. The people she believes in. With her I kind of have to think more logically and think through her reactions. She also has a lot of internal conflict within herself because I am writing her as a pure blood descendant of Hector Dagworth-Granger the famous potioneer. Now, she has to go to all of these functions and reconcile with the fact she is not a muggleborn. So much can go on with these two that I really want to just flesh them out so I really get to know these characters again. This might be horrible for some people but I might vere from canon a lot and I know doing so will not be every fans cup of tea but I want to explore a lot of what if questions I have. I have a confession to make and I hope you don’t mind but I really have never planned a story before so I am totally new at this. I also am just starting to go from reader to active writer. I finally feel ready to dive into the writing world without caring what my family thinks and take a leap of faith to see where it takes me. Currently, I am using Abbie Emmons Idea to outline documents to flesh out my idea better. I am super grateful for her resources as they are really helping me. I did not get that you were terrible at planning and fascinated by how other people do it until you pointed it out. Sometimes my brain just goes bonkers and I miss things. I think this is definitely going to be novel length because there is a bit of mystery involved as well as the romance. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Right now, I have ideas for a Dramione fic as well as a Sirius/OC fic. I will definitely update you all in my Novel Nest and the Writers Journal once I get that up with some more details.
shadowycorner Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Quote Providing Draco with a redemption arc. Proving that you may think your one thing but when you find out that your whole life has been a lie and that you belong in this world. Taking a certain bookworms activism to a new level. Healing from Ron’s death. Oh I see we have another Dramione in our midst :D But it's all good, welcome! I love a good Draco redemption arc. Especially the part about proving you can change your ideals when life happens, it's an important message that gives out hope that even bad people can become better if they're ready to challenge themselves. Also, learning how to plan your novel, even a short story, can be difficult. I've been writing for years without knowing how to do it, which resulted in a lot of unfinished projects. I'm only slowly learning it now. If you ever need help, just ask anyone on the site. There's so many different styles and approaches people have, something is definitely bound to work for you :D My question is what is your overall story as a writer? When did you start writing? Why? What made you want to do it? What were some of your first stories? :) Thank you and it's great to have you on Gryffindor!
