TidalDragon Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 .:. TIDALDRAGON'S SUMMER OF INSANITY .:. Off the back of this year's previous and inexplicable success, I am once again heading off to Camp NaNo. There are many memories here, mostly of the swampy muck beneath my feet as I was dragged into the dark depths of the Black Lake, but this time, I'm told they've replaced such disaster areas with sand so there can be free walking as well as free swimming. And most importantly no drowning. Right? Right. If you have read the above like you were supposed to then strap yourself down to...oops. Already wrote that one. Starting over. I'll be working on three projects for Camp and, as always, will be leaving my mind open to whatever my bleary eyes can make out amid the dissipating ink of the Giant Squid. Project #1: Amid a Castle Crumbling Credit to Joshuat1306 on DeviantArt This is my entry for the Noir Challenge. If you know what a noir fic is, it's hopefully that with some actual attempts at description on my part. It has to be done by 31 July so...kind of do or die. Project #2: No Accounting for Taste Brought to you Taylor (aka @down-in-flames), certified badass at graphics. And pretty much everything really. Welcome to Holyoake - a fake college in a fake place where I try to pretend that I have some degree of knowledge about British universities. Katie Bell is a poor girl from a poor family who thrives on photography and accountancy. Harry Potter is a kid on his own in the world who confounds her. They may or may not have sexual tension, lie to themselves about being 'just friends', and eventually wake up - maybe even in bed with each other. It's impossible to say because the story isn't finished! This is turning into an Evolution situation that needs to be stopped. There are going to be some revisions as part of this, but yeah. #mustconclude Project #3: don't | believe the hype While procrastinating on...basically everything...I managed to write a couple of chapters of this over the last few months. Starring Rionach O'Neal who starts as a chip-on-her-shoulder reserve player and becomes an overnight sensation. Telling up from down in her life quickly becomes just about as difficult as holding an eternal Sloth Grip Roll. Also features Hogwarts Mystery characters Skye Parkin and Penny Haywood. Project #4: From Office Space. If you don't already know that...SMH. If the point of this picture looks faint in the background it's probably because if I get here, my hopes of finishing are probably equally faint. GOAL: Get 50,000 or Die Tryin'
TidalDragon Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 Annnnnnd I got handed an attempted murder file today. Goal is writing...something. Hoping for 10,000, but probably not.
nott theodore Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Kevin! *high fives for joining in the chaos that is working on multiple projects at once* (less so for the trial) 1. Tell me a bit about your Noir challenge entry? I love the title! How long do you plan on it being? Which characters will be involved? 2. NAFT turning into an Evolution situation isn't entirely surprising, but what lessons have you learnt from working on Evolution that you're applying while you write NAFT? 3. What's been the biggest challenge writing NAFT so far? 4. Where did you get the idea for don't | believe the hype from? How long do you imagine it'll be? Good luck with NaNo, despite the work stress (if it's anything like your writing earlier this year, I'm sure you'll be brilliant!)
TidalDragon Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 @nott theodore Sian! Thank you so much for stopping by! The trial is actually an awesome development (though not for the victim or for JulNo) as I've been waiting waiting waiting for another jury trial. And now it's like zero to max. But anyway... 1. Tell me a bit about your Noir challenge entry? I love the title! How long do you plan on it being? Which characters will be involved? I love the title too. As always I want to finish it, but since the actual deadline is 30 August rather than what I stated above/originally thought it's going to be a bit longer (sorry @RonsGirlFriday). Will it be as long as my longest challenge entry ever (Escape Velocity @ 27,688 words)? I hope to God not. But TBH it's very possible. As far as characters, I'm actually writing OF for this challenge (which I had decided to do from the get go) so...awesome people you don't know yet. 2. NAFT turning into an Evolution situation isn't entirely surprising, but what lessons have you learnt from working on Evolution that you're applying while you write NAFT? For sure it's actually planning. Not planning planning, but as close to planning as I do. Like keeping track of character names and physical descriptions and a general direction of where each is going - and the endgame. 3. What's been the biggest challenge writing NAFT so far? 1A: balancing the fact that this is, above-all, actually a story about Katie's college experience with the SeekerBell which is obviously a hugely important part of that for her as the story progresses. Her various interests and particular situation make her a bit of a challenge. 1B: Making the story work/actually be good in the confines of the self-imposed structure (each chapter covers a month of her schooling - with summer taking a single chapter). Sometimes this leaves me drilling down into a single day that encapsulates what's happening that month which can make the transitions tough. 4. Where did you get the idea for don't | believe the hype from? How long do you imagine it'll be? First, I love writing quidditch (which I am hopefully decent at) and Rionach O'Neal (a Gryffindor rando who's only (AFAIK) specifically named in the credits for one of the movies (she was originally just shown as 'Gryffindor Girl'). You'll find her crop up at moments in a number of stories actually (though not this incarnation). And now the part where people laugh at me - 'Lucky' by Britney Spears. Basically it's about struggling with fame - both becoming rich and famous and the 'lifestyle' of the rich and famous. As you read the character, you'll also see that it very much incorporates the saying 'be careful what you wish for - you just might get it'. How does all of it change her? I imagine it will be novel-length (unfortunately ), but we'll see. It may be slightly shorter, but in any event won't wind up less than 30K. Thanks again for the questions!
