scooterbug8515
Given the history of the world there are very few times and things that can bring the whole world together for something and the Olympics is one of those events. Much like the Tri-Wizard tournament it is an opportunity for people to learn about those of different cultures and different parts of the world. The Olympics highlights a particular world region, this year Rio and brings many nationalities to one place and many to the same activity. It is kind of astounding and amazing when you think about it! In light of all of that HPFT wanted to join in the celebration of the Olympics as well and give you a chance to enjoy this rare and infrequent event! We hope to bring you a few interesting stats throughout the competition week here in this thread. Of course, stats aren't the only thing we'll be doing. We have a whole Discussion Thread where you can post your excitement over events share your favorite part of the Olympics your predictions or even your favorite memories. Do you remember when history was being made at a particular event? Also, we have a Recommendation Thread where you can recommend your favorite sports related stories be it quidditch, quadpot, football, rugby or some other sport related to another favorite fandom you can post it there! So let us have fun and enjoy the events! I know I am excited! What about you? So let's get ready for the Olympics! *Starting Ceremony will actually be @12am 6/8/16 GMT

scooterbug8515
We have now had 62 of 207 participating coutries win a medal now and you can see the top 12 once again. Also I want to take a moment becuase I failed to yesterday but the newly minted refugee olympians have won a medal and it was a gold! I am so excited for them! They are number #34 in rankings having won a gold as the ranking isn't just over all medals but color so one gold medal would out rank a country that has won multiples of the lower ranking medals. Also... interesting fact. I believe it was stated that 70% of the American medals were won in swimming.

scooterbug8515
And this is the first day since the Olympics started this year that America did not get a gold medal. However there were more firsts for a lot of other countries and people and that to me is still the most exciting part, seeing those reactions. Still here is the current medal count. scooterbug8515
And that's a wrap folks! Final medal counts are in and the flag has now been passed onto Tokyo where we can do this all again in 2020. (Though we'll be sure to have some fun in 2018 for Winter Olympics.) A grand total of 87 countries won a medal this year! There were some fantastic performances at the games and I know I certainly enjoyed watching them! Anyway with things wrapping up the Sports Stories recommendation thread shall stay open but be moved to the rec section where you are still free to recommend sports themed stories. And the discussion thread will stay open for a bit longer for people to express their final thoughts about the games. What was your favorite part? Are you excited for Tokyo already?
