abhorsen. Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 are you ready for it? in accordance with many centuries of wizarding universiade tradition, we'll end these games with a good old-fashioned series of duels! rules and points structure all universities will participate in three duels simultaneously using designated threads in their common rooms (one for each opposing university). members will cast spells by leaving a gifts on the site and linking to them in that university's thread. universities do not have to spread their focus evenly across their three opponents, and will have no idea how opposing universities are focusing their attacks. the winner of each of the duels will be determined by which university successfully stunned the most people with stupefy. spells (i.e., gifts) members can either cast an offensive spell (stupefy) or defensive spells (expelliarmus and protego) depending on the kind of gift they leave. stupefy: stuns an opponent; requires gifts like: picspams reviews (500+ characters, largely about the fic) blog posts (350+ words) poems drabbles banners expelliarmus: three negate one stunning spell; requires gifts like: profile posts recommendations (in rec subforum) writer's journal questions protego: one negates 10 stunning spells; requires gifts like: challenge entries (1000+ words) gift fics (1000+ words) podfics (either individually or as a group collab) gifts are not limited to the above examples; if you have another type of gift you'd like to leave, please notify your arbiters of chaos, and we will assign the gift to the spell requiring the most similar effort and add it to the list above. gifts can be given to a specific member, but they can also be for the broader community - e.g., posting an entry in our book review blog or recommending a fic on AO3 by a non-member is still a gift for our broader community. points winning a duel will earn your university 100 points. your duels will end july 20 at 4am GMT.
just.a.willow.tree Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 For gifts given to specific people -- does the member need to be of the specific house that we're targeting? (If that makes sense? )

lostinthelightss Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 would each chapter in a podfic count as a separate protego?

VaguelyCreativeName Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 is there a minimum character count for reviews? and could they serve other purposes as well, e.g. review swaps?

nott theodore Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Are there any minimum length requirements for any of the gifts?
Predictable Chaos Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 How do we gift a blog? Does it have to be a response on someone else's blog?
Aphoride Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 are recommendations solely fic recommendations, or can we do book and tv recommendations as well?

abhorsen. Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 ALSO VERY IMPORTANT! your friendly neighborhood branwen wrote down her numbers re: points the event was supposed to be worth wrong. winning a duel nets you 100 points, not 50.
Aphoride Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 how long should drabbles be? (i.e. can they be up to 200 words? or is it just up to 100?)

magemadi Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 If we're making a picspam/banner/graphic situation for a specific person, do we just post them the appropriate duelling thread in our CR's and then disseminate them to their intended recipients later? Or should we send them to the recipient directly as well?

Pixileanin Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Hey, so are Writers Journals restricted to the WJ thread, or can we count posts in the Novel Nest area as WJ contributions?

Darling_take_off_the_mask Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 What if you were to write a fic as a gift for someone, say over 1000 words. Would that count for something, and if so, which spell?

Aphoride Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 i know some people really like getting review responses - can we gift these, and, if so, should they follow the same length rules as reviews or slightly shorter?
