magnifique Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 aesthetic by me Crossing Stars rating: tbd probably T or M goal: 10k or roughly the first five chapters genre: angst and romance but mostly angst era: marauders-y? characters: amelia bones, marlene mackinnon, ? tbd ship(s): amelia x marlene warnings: again, tbd, if anything it might be violence because #war and also death length: unsure if it will be a short story or a collection of one shots that follow marlene and amelia yet so we will see post as I go? yes because instant gratification for Doing It. hello hpft and welcome to my crib nest I'm Julie, I've been writing for a really long time, mostly my characters over at pottersworld (a play by post rpg site), but in light of quarantine and some other stressors, I'm trying to get back into fic and particularly the queer fic I was too previously insecure to really write and embrace. I got this idea the other week when I was thinking about one of my favorite hp families that isn't written about enough - the Bones! We are definitely playing with canon because neither Marlene nor Amelia have a lot of canon information/background but I'm looking forward to the challenge! The plot isn't so much a plot as it is the idea of two witches who want to be together but are kind of on opposite sides of how they want to do that and also how they want to be active participants in their own lives/the history being made right in front of them. It will start in Hogwarts but the timeline will either end with Marlene's death or a little bit after, to give some closure to Amelia's side of the story. So yeah, that's what I've got so far and I've set my goal to be fairly reasonable/chill in order not to be stressed about it, and I will probably use this space to try and figure out my plot as well as bemoan the state of my characters - please feel free to come hang out and ask questions because you will probably help me answer questions I didn't know I had myself. playlist (wip) 1. you don't know love (olly murs) 2. shadowycorner Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 I'm so happy you feel safe and comfortable posting queer fic now. Also yay for this pairing, I have never read one like it, but Marlene is one of my favorite low-key obscure canon characters, and this has so much potential I could just fall over now. Loved your writing stile in On My Own, so I am excited to see more stories and especially character arcs from you
grumpy cat Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 i mean i've had a crush on marlene and we know zero things about her but she just generally seems cool and beautiful. am i a sucker for the name marlene? possibly. in any case i am 100% here for any marlene fics and pairing her with amelia is just very *chef's kiss* and like i want to read it *now* because doomed relationships (dying is very rude) in the middle of a war are very much my thingTM so uhm i want to be useful and not just fangirl over the plot hm hm hm. what's their major conflict/how they want to be together differently? (what are words? does that question even make sense outside of my own brain)

Loved your writing stile in On My Own, so I am excited to see more stories and especially character arcs from you Hi Eli!!! Me too!! tbh I posted it before, it just wasn't something I was totally comfortable fully embracing? I was still working through some of my own insecurities in how to represent my + other identities, but I've had a lot of time to work through that since which is just great and thank you!! Marlene is actually one of the favorites of my best friend, so I was partially inspired by her, partially inspired by some marauders fics I've read recently, and then just also interested in a character we simply don't know much about!! you're too kind thank you for dropping in!! 5 hours ago, grumpy cat said: i mean i've had a crush on marlene and we know zero things about her but she just generally seems cool and beautiful. am i a sucker for the name marlene? possibly. in any case i am 100% here for any marlene fics and pairing her with amelia is just very *chef's kiss* and like i want to read it *now* because doomed relationships (dying is very rude) in the middle of a war are very much my thingTM so uhm i want to be useful and not just fangirl over the plot hm hm hm. what's their major conflict/how they want to be together differently? (what are words? does that question even make sense outside of my own brain) Hi Kris!! honestly I feel that, Marlene is just.... a name and I was looking through my random model pinterest for someone who fit the vibe and I found tiffany meia and I was just like YES YOU!! YOU ARE THE ONE and I love her so much i hope my Marlene can live up to her vibe and your expectation!! It's funny because in my RP I'm very happily ever after don't break up the otp but, in my fics especially in recent years post-leaving HPFF I've just been like "or what if they never got together/couldn't stay together/someone died" and it's very funny because no one who writes with me regularly expects it but I'm EXCITED for it. It's gonna BE SAD Yes I love the useful question(s)!! I'm not sure if it counts as one or two but I'm answering in a big ol' paragraph either way. so I'm still brainstorming and letting things come to me as they do but as of right now I'm really focusing on what we know of Amelia (that she was in the Wizengamot) and what that probably means for her character - she's lawful, she has a defined sense of right v wrong, and she's willing/wanting to work within the Ministry justice system. We also know her older brother, Edward (as well as Marlene ofc), was in the Order but she wasn't. So for me that says that Amelia is the type of person who wants to work within the system to bring about change, and Marlene is someone who knows that isn't always possible, and I want to focus on/bring to the forefront that tension in their relationship because I think it's not something that will be a problem when they're younger and more idealistic, but as they become young adults/leave Hogwarts and they want to fight Voldemort in two very different ways it's going to cause some resentment :') no big deal. Hopefully that makes sense??? thank you for stopping by!! banner by me in other news I made a banner + the sig I'm currently using for the fic and made an aesthetic specifically for Amelia because hers is the character I've been thinking about most today. I think I'm going to tell it from both their POVs however, probably alternating either every other chapter or writing half the chapter as Amelia/half as Marlene (it's what I'm doing for my fic On My Own and I like that style a lot but we'll see). aesthetic by me a few miscellaneous facts about Amelia? - she's a ravenclaw - they'll be at school during the late 60s/early 70s I haven't decide specifically when they'll graduate but I know they'll be a few years older than the Marauders because that just makes the most sense in the my head right now. - I think initially she'll be a pretty light-hearted person who grows more serious and worn as the war begins and her family + Marlene are taken from her in different ways. - I don't want to write homophobia as part of this verse because I just don't want to lmao so she won't have a big 'coming out' moment or anything like that, but she's definitely someone I see as identifying as both a lesbian and probably demi-romantic as well given in canon we never see her in a relationship (which doesn't necessarily mean anything, but I think it's one of many ways we can read her character in the books). - She is either an air or a water sign, I haven't decided which - and she's smack dab in the middle of her brothers who are probably Hufflepuffs or maybe one is a Gryffindor given the Order proclivities, but I like the idea of Susan, her niece, taking after her dad, and then Amelia kind of being the odd one out in one way (of many, probably). - I think initially she'll be the one who is more resistant to any kind of relationship and then, later on, the table will switch on her and Marlene as they're older and looking at their lives more seriously. I even had this thought earlier today that might end up in the story so I'll keep it under the spoiler tag but definitely don't read the spoiler if you do not actually want to be spoiled Spoiler I was thinking that what might break the two of them up for good is that Amelia will tell Marlene that she wants to have a kid (presumably before the Potters get pregnant or around that time I can't remember off the top of my head what year that is in relation to Marlene's death in canon and I'm not sure if I'm sticking to that timeline anyway) and Marlene will freak out like what the heck are you talking about there is a war going on we can't bring a kid into this and ofc then Amelia will be heartbroken and it'll be REALLY SAD but I don't know for sure don't hold me to this. oh and so I don't forget myself lolol I decided to call it 'crossing stars' as a play on 'star-crossed-lovers' where fate just won't let them be together because... fate.... aka myself, the writer, will not allow them to be together and I also like the idea of the night sky drawing them together in Hogwarts, so romantic, so emotional.

just.a.willow.tree Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Please badger me once this story's up and going! 1. I love your banner so so much. You are so talented. 2. I really love that you're choosing not to go the homophobia route -- sometimes we just need lesbians pining v much for one another! That does make me curious, though: will Amelia and Marlene be casually and openly together (i.e. will their friends know about it)? 3. Will Amelia/Marlene be endgame? Please please please please! 4. Are there any conflicts from outside figures that prevent the relationship from soaring forward (like, other love interests, or like having friend groups that don't really cross paths, etc.)? 5. What is Marlene like as a person? You mention Amelia begins as a lighthearted person but then grows more serious as things grow more dire -- will we see a similar sort of arc for Marlene, where her personality is seriously affected by the war? Good good luck!

Good good luck! hehehe badger you - I will be sure to do so and thank you so much for the questions Eva!! 1. THANK YOU you're too sweet ;-; 2. I just... meh, I think that it's important to have stories that have that nitty gritty aspect of reality because I don't want people to forget it exists and is a problem, but I also need to wrap myself in the softness of a world where that isn't an obstacle to happiness and I can just make all the obstacles for myself :'D I think they will be for the most part!! I don't know yet if they'll ever be official in the sense of the word where they're going around "so and so is my girlfriend" you know, but that has more to do with their characters and the time they're living in than their sexuality!! But I like to let my characters lead so we'll see 3. weeeeeeeeeeeellllllll. they're both going to die, I'm not changing that bit of canon so I don't know if I would call them end game. But they aren't going to be with anyone else? 4. I don't see any other love interests at this point in time tbh but I also haven't come up with other characters to surround them with yet which definitely needs to be on the agenda ( ) though I do think they could get some ??? from outside parties such as friends and family especially when they're more divergent as they get older and have more obviously adversarial political views. I think there's also going to be some stress because both Amelia's brother and Marlene will be in the Order, but Amelia will not be (not romantic stress mind, just "you're putting my brother in danger!!" stress maybe). 5. oh man Marlene, I told you before you have INSPIRED me to think about her but really you've given me a kick in the pants so I'm going to talk about her and share the aesthetic I made and hopefully the answers will be good ones :') aesthetic by me some miscellaneous answers and facts about marlene: - she's a gryffindor - definitely a bit of a hot head but goofier than hot headed initially until she gets a wake up call (don't ask me what that is yet I don't know) and yes, similarly to Amelia she'll be less easy breezy and more concerned with what's going on around her and what she can do about it and frankly a little bit reckless as well - I know this is not an original concept for Marlene at all, but I'm hoping to tweak it and make it my own and I really do want to keep some her inherent goofiness along with the fire that goes behind her actions and her beliefs. - I do also think that Marlene will be the person who is less interested in making their relationship official per se, because she won't see it as important, but then that might change perhaps later on when their lives are different and then it might be Amelia pulling away who can say really.... mostly I think they'll both take turns being like no I will sacrifice myself for you, no I will, and so on. - also a little bit about the Mckinnons in my 'verse - they obviously are not white, her parents are both magical but they are part-Vietnamese immigrants and she has two younger siblings, quite a bit younger than her I would say - she's more of the 'oops' and they were planned, both boys so not unlike Amelia she has two brothers but she's the oldest while Amelia is the middle child. in other news, I think I've decided to theme my chapters after songs on the playlist and by that I mean when I find a song that fits, I will name the chapter after that song and it will be the ~ inspired vibe ~ -- so for the first chapter I think you don't know love currently fits the best tbh which sounds more dramatic than it will probably end up being but it's more of a representation for where Marlene/Amelia (Marlia? Arlene?)'s current emotional state is it's going to be fun
nott theodore Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Hi Julie!! Reading this thread makes me really want to read your story and I'm so intrigued by this pairing - it's so unique and I can't remember having ever seen it before! 1. Does this story start when Marlene and Amelia are in school, or later? If it starts later, do they know each other in school? 2. Amelia obviously dies (at least in canon) much later than Marlene - will the story continue to that point, or will it end around the time Marlene dies? 3. What do you see as being the biggest challenge for you with this story? 4. What are you most excited to write about? 5. How much of a role will their families play in the story (particularly Amelia's, as we have more canon information on them)? 6. Will Amelia's job in law enforcement bring her into moral conflict with Marlene, besides just bringing conflict to their relationship about their method for dealing with the war? 7. It sounds like there's going to be a lot of pining and conflict in this story - are there going to be happy/fluffy moments for them too?
beyond the rain Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Mckinbones? Bonninon? I tried okay, I tried. I like Marlia best. HEY JULIE I'M HERE WITH QUESTIONS: 1. Why do you enjoy torturing me like this just let them live happily ever after 2. What are amelia and marlene's personal goals? What do they want from this relationship, from life in general? Etc. Etc. Just tell me about what makes them happy pls 3. Will a lot of the characters be canon in this fic? Any OCs outside of the siblings? 4. Is this first/third person? Does the fic look more at Amelia's perspective or Marlene's? Or is it more general? 5. Has there been any major changes since this plot began? 6. Out of all your PW characters, who do you think marlene and amelia would get on with the most? Who would they dislike (i mean i think i know but i would like an explanation)?

It sounds like there's going to be a lot of pining and conflict in this story - are there going to be happy/fluffy moments for them too? Hello!! Thank you so much for stopping by + bringing questions I'm a sucker for unique/weird/what if we put these two together pairings I'm ngl I like writing where there aren't many preconceptions of what they could be! 1. so below I've (finally) come up with a rough timeline for the story, but the story will start while they are in their sixth year at school! So they will know each other in school, but I don't imagine well until the story starts. Amelia is someone who definitely keeps more to herself and is really focused on her studies and I think Marlene will start to bring her more out of her shell in that aspect in chapter one :') 2. I haven't decided with 100% certainty because you're right and I'm sticking with the canon timeline as far as their deaths are concerned so Amelia will have over a decade of sad times without Marlene Right now I'm leaning more toward ending the story shortly after Marlene's death and then perhaps later writing a companion one shot of Amelia's death, but I'm not sticking myself to any one thing right now because it could just ~ happen ~ later when I'm writing :'D 3. I think that there is a lot of action-based nuance that will be pretty difficult for me tbh I'm not a writer who is fond of writing action based sequences or fight scenes, but as this is set in and heavily depends on the first wizarding war it wouldn't make sense to not include aspects of that - especially since Amelia will end up going into the MLE per canon and that's a pretty action-based job hehe so we're going to hope those aren't too hard to get through!! 4. I am very excited to write the growth of their relationship and the arc there - I planned it out yesterday (no spoilers!) and even though it ultimately has a sad ending, there are some parts that I think will be very satisfying to write (and hopefully read as well!) 5. Amelia's family (as of right now) will absolutely play a big role in her part of the story. I might have started writing the first chapter so I can share that we start with Amelia + her younger brother who I have named Stephen and a letter from Edgar who is already graduated at that point! As of right now I don't have as many thoughts about Marlene's, and I think that her family will be important but not quite as much a priority as Amelia's but Marlene will cross over with Edgar quite a bit since they'll both be Order members. 6. It absolutely will! I think Amelia is going to really struggle with both Marlene and Edgar (as well as the entire Order, in theory) working outside the law to try and make the world a better place and fight Voldemort. She's very lawful good as a character (both in my head and, imo, in canon) and extremely fair but frustrated by people who don't do what she sees as the "right thing" or follow the proper channels. 7. Pining and conflict are the name of the game but I couldn't survive without happy and fluffy minutes so those will definitely exist too! I think they'll be more prominent earlier on, as they're in Hogwarts and just out of it, and become fewer/further in between as the story continues on though Thank you so much for the questions they were good to answer and helped me resolve a few internal questions I had myself 2 hours ago, beyond the rain said: Mckinbones? Who would they dislike (i mean i think i know but i would like an explanation)? Marlia is, admittedly, one of my favorites BUT I APPLAUD YOUR ATTEMPTS! 1. where would the fun be in that 2. this is a really interesting question because I hadn't thought about it but, it was funny because the answer for Amelia came to me immediately and Marlene was like "uh idk" which is very on brand for both their characters lol. Amelia is a very high-achieving person, she's a ravenclaw, she's a brainiac, she wants to be head of the MLE, and she wants to be a part of the justice system because she sees it as a way to really make positive changes. Marlene also wants to do something good for the world, but she's much less concrete/more abstract in what she wants to do so she's like "well I'll step out into the world and opportunity will fall into my lap!" and it won't exactly be like that but I do think she'll cling somewhat to the Order because they do give her purpose in her life. As far as their relationship - Amelia wants something like what her parents have, the more idealized 'happily ever after' and Marlene wants someone who will be her partner in whatever she's doing. And there's definitely a split in these ideas for them but I won't get too much into it because #spoilers. And I thought we covered this they aren't allowed to be happy. 3. I'm going to use as many canon characters as I can!! But for their friend groups I'm probably going to have to branch outside of canon since there's four years between them and the Marauders and I don't really want this to become a Marauders-based fic even if that is the technical era. I am really looking forward to writing in people like the Longbottoms and the Prewetts and young Arthur/Molly Weasley and stuff however! Marlene and Amelia sort of exist right in between them and the Marauders, so it's an interesting period to work with. 4. Third person! I'm not very confident in my first person especially for anything longer than a one shot which this will be, so third person with alternating perspectives between Amelia and Marlene though one of them might end up dominating - hopefully not. I'm thinking each chapter will be half/half, or that's the goal at least. 5. I don't think there have been any major changes but part of that is because I haven't written more than 300 words of it so there isn't much to change yet though I did make some more definitive decisions about the timeline and what I want their arc to be so I guess those are changes-ish!! 6. Amelia and Zach would be best friends HAHAHAA Lawful Good Nerds unite amiright. As for Marlene, I think she would get along the best with Aurora tbh, they're both very "fight me" in their attitudes and very strong-willed, though I think Marlene would get really frustrated with Aurora's lack of initiative re: justice and doing the right thing oops. They would both despise Josie (but who doesn't tbh) and I think that in the same way she'll be frustrated by Amelia, Marlene would be very frustrated by Zach!! thank you for the ?s they were very fun Bexalicious -> t i m e l i n e s <- amelia/marlene -- birth: 1955/6 school start: 1967 school end: 1974 marauders -- birth: 1959/60 school start: 1971 school end: 1978 edgar -- birth: 1953/4 school start: 1965 school end: 1972 stephen -- birth: 1958/59 school start: 1970 school end: 1977 story -- chapter one: 1972-73 chapter two: 1973-74 chapter three: 1975-76 chapter four: 1977-78 chapter five: 1979-80 chapter six: 1981 playlist (wip) 1. you don't know love (olly murs) 2. ShazaLupin Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hey!! Stopping by with some questions! 1. So this seems like it's going to be a sad story for obvious reasons, do you prefer writing sad stories rather than fluffy ones? 2. I love the asthetics you made for Amelia and Marlene What made you want to put them in Ravenclaw and Gryffindor? Why not the same house? 3. You said you wanted to tweak the concept surrounding Marlene to make it your own, do you know what kind of tweaks you are making? 4. You said you thought about Amelia first, what made you pair her with Marlene? This sounds like an interesting fic, good luck with nano!

You said you thought about Amelia first, what made you pair her with Marlene? This sounds like an interesting fic, good luck with nano! Hi Shaza!!! thank you sm for the questions these are really good ones and I've been thinking about them hard since I saw them when I woke up!!! 1. it's funny because I don't actually I think I prefer more often than not to write fluff but my last few solid longer story ideas have been decidedly not fluffy so maybe I'm entering a New Era or something, or my rp characters with their fluffy lives and healthy relationships are making it so I need to do something different here :'D 2. Thank you!!! I love making aesthetics hehe and honestly just the vibe? of their characters? I didn't want to put them in the same house because I thought it would a) be too easy and b) be harder to show the more obvious and glaring differences in their characters and moralities. Being in different houses it's easier to play them off each other to showcase those differences. I'm also a big sucker for the Ravenclaw/Gryffindor ship dynamic tbh I've written it a couple of times now and it's just so interesting so I'm excited to play with that with them as well. 3. It's kind of hard to say for sure right now only because some things I won't know until I properly get into the writing, but I know that I both don't want to make her only one thing or another - i.e. I've seen her portrayed as a very serious, very intense 'freedom fighter' type and that was great but I want my Marlene to retain more humor even when she's really intensely involved in the Order, and I also really want to temper that with some softness - not a lot, I don't think she's a soft person by nature, but I want to explore softness with her especially re: Amelia because I think she's very capable of that but perhaps just not in ways where it's overt or easy to see. 4. I did think about Amelia first, I will probably never shut up about how much I love the Bones family it's f i n e but as for why I paired her with Marlene - honestly I think Marlene was just on the brain, I'd recently finished reading a few Marauders-era or near that stories and I was thinking about minor female characters we don't necessarily know a lot about or who have more flexible timelines and then I was like duh - Marlene Mckinnon! And as an added bonus I really like putting characters where they don't feel like they're supposed to go, which in this case is making Marlene a few years oder than the Marauders, not their contemporary as she is so frequently portrayed (which I love - don't get me wrong, I just think it'll be interesting to see her elsewhere). And then as I started thinking about it more and doing more research/connecting the dots, it made a lot of sense for Amelia and Marlene to know of each other, if not in school then because of Amelia's connection to the Order through her brother and things sort of started evolving from there! thank you so much again for your questions and the luck!! I will definitely need it haha alas, I have no shiny goodies to add today because I've been so busy doing stuff for the finale that thinking about making graphics is ?? anyway. I've realized that I really need to think about canon characters to include as well as OCs outside of their family dynamic so here is my very tentative list: 1. Bertha Jorkins (G): canon | Amelia/Marlene's year | plump & gossipy | murdered by voldemort in 94 2. Florence [no last name] (H): canon | Amelia/Marlene's year | found snogging boyfriend by Bertha | 3. Evan Rosier (S): canon | between M & A/M | Slytherin gang of Death Eaters | killed by Moody 4. [no name] Wilkes (S): canon | Amelia/Marlene's year | Slytherin gang of Death Eaters | killed 1980 5. Irene Abernathy (R): oc | Amelia/Marlene's year | Amelia's best friend | half-blood, DP reporter 6. Graeme Davies (G): oc | Amelia/Marlene's year | Marlene's right hand man | muggle-born, healer I will come up with more later but this seems to be a fairly workable list for the moment or at the very least the first chapter - but if anyone has any suggestions I won't say no to canon/non-canon ideas
magnifique Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 now that I've actually started writing (getting near 2k!) I'm using this space to drop off some notes/reminders to self: marlene - Vietnamese/British background: focus on family, choices, what that means, resilience/perseverance + potentially stoicism later on? Spoiler topics left to research: food, relevant customs, specifics of the intersection between Vietnamese culture and British culture, the impact of the Vietnam war/tensions with the US, circumstances that brought Marlene's family to the UK ** pick names for her parents + brothers + near extended family - bit of a loner outside of her friendship with Graeme, doesn't have a lot of trust for authority + particularly systems within which authority works (i.e. not having inherent respect for a new professor because she's been burned by the past professors in that position) - comes off as more confident and sure of herself than she actually is, not a muggle-born but I imagine that the way Hogwarts is going wasn't exactly how she pictured it or how her family may have portrayed the experience??? amelia - only comfortable in really academic/structured settings, can tend to be awkward or uncomfortable outside of them, not knowing what to say - much closer with edgar than she is with stephen - I think amelia will still make the first move with marlene though irene - fc: Saffi Karina (aesthetic tba) - only child, working class parents - casual confidence, dry wit, very focused on finding the truth in any situation/story graeme - fc: Justin Petzschke (aesthetic tba) - gay, has a bad habit of flirting with people he probably shouldn't - flirts with recklessness but never crosses the boundary - wants to be a healer, so has learned to be fairly tolerant of people who disgust him because he doesn't want to jeopardize his chance by saying the wrong thing to the wrong person at the wrong time misc - I have realized Lucius Malfoy would have gone to school with Amelia's older brother, unsure if I want that to feature at all, but good background knowledge. Along with that, Narcissa is a year above them in school, but I don't think she'll particularly feature either - The Bones' are a pureblood family, but I don't imagine them to be very involved in the political side or??? not the purist side fs, but I have to figure out how to meet in the middle for them
magnifique Posted July 15, 2020 Author Posted July 15, 2020 SO IT'S BEEN A MINUTE SINCE I UPDATED and I kept meaning to but then I was like nah actually I'll write but I have exciting news --> Quote chapter one is complete yeah you heard me it is done, not edited, but I've finished writing it and I've put it in the queue so I'm excited for that to be real and in existence!! in other news some of my recent challenges have been: - how do I make the chapters feel balanced when all of them will probably end up being pretty hoppy-all-over-the-place-y - researching Vietnamese honorifics and deciding which, if any, would Marlene and her brothers use when their father is second or third gen, and their mother is an immigrant, and the internet hasn't been super helpful but we persevere and you know, if anyone sees this and by some stroke of luck has first hand knowledge of how Vietnamese siblings tend to address each other informally, if they use anything other than their given name/a nickname, that would be very appreciated. - the transition from the end of chapter one to the beginning of chapter two is just? interesting because we go like october/november -> the summer after because I couldn't think of a better way to end the chapter so i may have to tweak some timelines a bit when I look back and edit but this is where we are now in essence, I have no idea what I'm doing - what else is new - but at least we are almost to 6000/10000 words I'm going to keep a running list of characters here but I'll put it under a spoiler: Spoiler amelia edgar stephen irene bertha marlene graeme mcgonagall evan rosier florence auror dorrington wallace & leonard mckinnon
magnifique Posted August 8, 2020 Author Posted August 8, 2020 not unlike many other aspects of my writing and "planning" process, I've been procrastinating posting a WJ, and only the threat of losing the ability to format my first post differently before I have my JulNo nest transferred over has propelled me into action. so here we are. hello. I'm Julie, I'm 26 ('94 bb), my pronouns are they/them, I'm genderqueer, bisexual, white, mentally ill, and I primarily write original fiction with some harry potter fanfiction sprinkled in! Conversely, I really only publish my HP stuff, and I tend to keep my OF more close to the vest and edit it to death, as one does haha though I would like to post some in the future! In HP I tend to fluctuate more toward lesser known and/or written characters in the Marauders/pre-Hogwarts era as well as Rebuilding/Next Gen eras. For me it's harder to get in to the characters/time period from the original series, so I stick to ones who are more malleable and who I can really make my own! that being said - let's get to the current projects I'm most invested in/proud of! STAR CROSSED WAR a series to catalog and celebrate queer love and life during the first wizarding war (sticks mostly to canon with added queerness and primarily focuses on Amelia Bones and Marlene McKinnon). I hope to eventually feature some of the minor/secondary characters in Crossing Stars in one-shots or short stories under this series name. CROSSING STARS [M] started in July 2020, specifically written to look at the impact of war and divergent political opinions on a relationship with two characters who aren't really paired together. #marlia4life though. as of right now (August 2020), only one chapter is up on the archives, but I'm working on chapter two and nearing the 10k mark which is very exciting. I predict this will end up being around 30k when I'm done, and you can find more information on it if you scroll down and read my transferred novel nest posts about it! warnings: violence (in later chapters) Quote Amelia and Marlene don't see each other. Until they do. But once they start looking at each other, they realize they don't know how to stop. marlene x amelia | a story told in six parts | banner by me THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE [A] I wrote this specifically for a challenge and as a 'Missing Moment' that takes place between chapter one and two of Crossing Stars! No banner yet or real summary because I wasn't sure how else to describe it, but it's basically just Marlene and Amelia being adorable, and the focus is definitely on how since starting to see each other/developing feelings, they've also become closer friends and the relationship is stronger overall! STAND ALONE WORKS ON MY OWN [M] this is a story I started back in 2016/2017, but have very recently (as of June/July 2020) completely revised and revamped the first four chapters of and am working on the fifth+. I started writing this specifically because I didn't want to write a romance, but I did want to look at complex relationships and the evolution of a friendship between two teenage boys/young men, as I feel it's a really underrepresented relationship in fic (and publishing, period). It's told from both Hugo and Scorpius' perspectives, alternating in each chapter, and it goes into some heavy ideas and emotions, but is something I find very cathartic to write. warnings: Self-Harm, Substance Abuse, Suicide Quote Wracked with residual guilt after the death of his mother, Scorpius Malfoy goes into seventh year feeling as though his head is barely above water. Hugo Weasley-Granger doesn't want to be the reason his parents call it quits. Two wizards, burdened by the weight of history and expectations, leaning into a friendship neither of them expected. | banner by me | COMING AROUND [T] *hufflepuff stom/featured story july 2020 (graphic credit to abhorsen at hpft) written in June 2020, this one-shot was kind of my reintroduction to fanfic as well as a way to heal and process some of the hurt and trauma that came with JKR's transphobic remarks/support of transphobia, and a way to reclaim a character who is very, very queer/gender-non-conforming coded. Tonks has been and will always be one of my favorite characters, and I really enjoyed writing this as a way to validate my own identity, and the trans identities of others. warnings: none Quote stunning banner by beyond the rain @tda/hpft "My name is Tonks. Not Nymphadora." It was the first time I'd said the words, but they felt like coming home. teen!Tonks + a positive coming out story LOOKING FOR SOMETHING REAL [T] another challenge one-shot, this was written for the 'we are never ever getting back together challenge' and as someone who tends to avoid writing angst/breakups/etc, it was an interesting and sad experiment but good for stretching my creative brain and Lily Potter II deserves better. warnings: none Quote I'm too flawed to hold you down but I don't want to be here alone lyrics by juice wrld & halsey | written for the we are never getting back together challenge | banner by me GOING AWAY [A] this is a challenge short story I wrote for Madi's Crackship challenge, and as someone who has never written a crackship before or a time travel fic, I really enjoyed it. It's not quite complete, I have 2/3 chapters up but chapter three is almost done and I'm hoping to finish it this (August 8th) week so that my entry will be entirely done for the deadline at the end of this month! It follows a minor character, Vicky Frobisher, as she is transported back in time to 1925 where she meets Fleamont Potter, Harry Potter's grandfather, and Head Boy and the two of them develop feelings for one another, before Vicky has to go home. The goal with this one was to write a romance that was in its earliest stages, before it's really love, but is still very poignant and relatable! warnings: none Quote Vicky Frobisher wanted to do something great. She did not want to fall in love with Harry Potter's grandfather almost sixty years before she is born. But no one ever told her about the terrible things that happen to witches and wizards who play with time. For magemadi’s Crackship Challenge | banner by me | vicky frobisher x fleamont potter And so here we are. This is what I'm working on/what I've written in the past few months, and there are of course other pieces, but these are the ones I like the most, feel have the most potential, or are just longer works and as a result ones I've dedicated more effort/time/energy to. I am hopeful I'll be able to use this as a space to keep myself accountable to all of my WIPs and future plans, but if anyone has questions or would like to know more, I will be happy to answer them and chat in depth because I really, really enjoy doing that!
grumpy cat Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 julie when the heck are we getting that smutty outtake of marlene and amelia eh? i'm just kidding (maybe i'm not) but besides my obvious fangirling in the rec thread and in my reviews i just wanted you to knowlike uhh out loud and in front of the whole internet that your writing and your stories are amazing and so are you and i'm looking forward to literally everything you write!
