Fun Facts From The Research Mines

I'm writing a fic that's required quite a bit of research: it made me think that it might be fun to have a thread where we can share weird things we've found doing research that didn't end up being relevant to the story.

I can start: apparently if you want to clean modern-made chainmail, you most frequently run it through the dishwasher.  This did nothing for my story set in the 11th Century, but is a very amusing mental image.

@tinyporcelainehorses I wish I had something as cool as your research tidbit! A lot of my research tends to be in the image section of google. Usually I can picture something in my head, but struggle to come up the appropriate name or way of describing it without a visual representation. Like one prime example was a specific sort of candle holder, so I searched for "standing church candle holders," and kept changing up the wording until I found what I wanted. I don't know if this even remotely falls into what you were hoping to start as a thread, so sorry if this was just a weird response haha.
