The Bi Rep Challenge || 31 December 2020

 HELLO & Welcome to the Bi Rep(resentation) Challenge!

thank you to @pirate grumpy cat for encouraging this challenge, and @magemadi for wanting to cohost it with me!

your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something where there is bisexuality in some way, shape, or form - 
it can be a struggle with identity, it can be a celebration, the only thing we don't want is anything that could reinforce negative
or harmful stereotypes about bisexual people. We're pretty cool, after all. 

Theme/Topic: write bi representation in any form -- coming out, a relationship, anything highlighting bisexuality!

Fandoms: HP & OF

Accepted Ratings: A-M

Requirements:

• Posted to FFT archives (you can post it elsewhere for fun if you want, but only entries posted on FFT will be considered/guaranteed to be read) and adhere to the TOS/rules.
• Must have "for magnifique & magemadi's Bi Rep challenge" somewhere in story or chapter summary
• No pre-written entries // max two entries per person
• No new chapters to an existing story unless the new chapter can stand alone
• if you're writing a multi-chaptered work, at least two chapters need to be up by the deadline.
• Smut is allowed but pls be gentle with it (aka no major smut)
• for the purposes of Julie's comfort and squicky feelings/fair judging - no extreme age gap ships (i.e. 18 & 30+) or student/teacher (i.e. snamione sorry bex still love you)

Specifics

• No stereotypes that contribute to why bisexuality is stigmatized (including but not limited to cheating or narratives that reinforce "picking a side")
• For the purposes of this challenge bisexuality is defined as "attraction to the same and/or other genders"

Awards

• everyone: a review from one (possibly both if we have time) of us on your entry.
• 3rd: 2 bonus reviews, award graphic, WJ questions
• 2nd: 3 bonus reviews, award graphic, WJ questions, favorite entry story
• 1st: 4 bonus reviews, award graphic, WJ questions, favorite entry story, picspam relating to entry

 

and that should be it! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them, no need to claim any particular character, if you all want to write a story about why Hugo Weasley is bisexual, well, who am I to say no (I'm kidding but also not).  Either way, we look forward to your entries and hope you have some fun exploring bisexuality and bisexual representation - we wholeheartedly encourage you to maybe step outside your comfort zone and have fun with it as well

I'm in! I'll (hopefully) be posting a one-shot in my OF-verse where like all the characters are bi.

Ermagerddd, my tentative NaNo project miiiight work for this.   But uh, do you have a max limit on the length of fic you're willing to read for this? (Only because depending on whether I am able to pull off what I'm thinking about, which would include multiple plotlines, it may take several chapters to really flesh out each character and their story, including the ones I will be portraying as bi. If that makes any sense at all.)

Yes, hello. Disaster bi on the case and will be writing about Bi Draco, most likely. Though at this point, I just want everyone to be queer, so I could choose literally any character.

I might have an idea for this, so I might be a maybe haha.  I do have a couple of questions though...would a bi character explaining to a hetero character what bisexuality is be ok? The hetero character would be totally welcoming of this individual, but might ask some awkward questions just because it hasn't been apart of their life experience. They'd be more or less coming from a place of curiosity than judgement. And also, would it be ok to use already written about OCs? The story I have in mind has not been written yet, but it's more or less a headcanon I had about an OC that I've written about elsewhere. Of course no prior reading would be required to understand this character and I could easily establish them enough so you felt like you knew them. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that all of this was ok. Seriously please tell me if this storyline is reinforcing something negative about being bi. I know everyone has had different experiences, so I just want to make sure if I do participate that I am not offending anyone.

Woohoo! Several chapters is fine with us, as long as the necessary chapters for us to read don't combine over ~15k words if possible

I have Beloved up on the archives. Sorry it's way more angsty than I wanted it to be (my brain is just MEHH these days).  I might try and submit a happier one-shot (provided I can actually write a one-shot that doesn't turn into a multi-chapter monstrosity) that is happier to balance this one out.
